Frederick B. Hagan

Hagan, FrederickSOUTH GLENS FALLS- Frederick B. Hagan, 86, of South Glens Falls, passed away peacefully, surrounded by love, on Saturday, April 28, 2018.

Born on August 19, 1931, in Manhattan, he was the son of the late Frederick B. and Ann (Fraser) Hagan.

Following his graduation from Hudson Falls High School, Fred enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving his country during the Korean War.

On April 10, 1955, Easter Sunday, he married Caroline Inglee at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Hudson Falls. She passed away on July 19, 2017, following 62 years of marriage.

Fred was employed at General Electric Company in both Hudson Falls and Fort Edward. He then moved to Alcan Aluminum, where he retired in 1991.

His family was most important to him and together they enjoyed many vacations and gatherings. He leaves behind a legacy that will flourish for an eternity.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his three brothers, Jim Hagan, Jack Hagan and George Hagan; his special nephew, Scott Hagan; his great grandson, Donovan Hagan; and his son-in-law, Alan Bahr.

Survivors include his beloved children, Lisa Carruthers and her husband, Warren of Queensbury; Lynn Bahr of South Glens Falls, Diane Cardinale of CA, Daniel Hagan and his wife, Judy of Fulton, Mark Hagan and his wife, Fran of Marrietta, Sean Hagan of South Glens Falls, Douglas Hagan and his wife, Chris of West Monroe and Kerri Hagan and Andy DePalma of Fort Edward; his cherished grandchildren, Melissa (Sean) Quirk. Cambria (David) Carruthers, Lindsay (George) Carruthers, Warren Carruthers (Jess), Eric Bahr, Nicolas (Leah) Bahr, Benjamin Bahr, Ashley Bahr, Lauren (Michael) Cardinale, Christopher Cardinale, Josh (Katie) Hagan, Danielle (Adam) Osborne, Christopher (Keshia) Hagan, Brianna (Spencer) Horton, MacKenzie (Tim) Clark, Marcus (Allegra) Hagan, Kelly (Joe) Bosco, Eric Hagan, Nicholas Hagan, Catie Hagan, Brittany (Bryan) Greco, Rob Hickey and Drew DePalma; his beloved great-grandchildren; Madyson, Ryan, Ava, Lyla, Luca, Lilly, Sage, Leyla, Mila, Lydea, Russell, Mitchell, Tyler, Nathaniel, Aubrie, Ashlyn, Audriana, Jax, Leo, Hunter and Jordan; many nieces, nephews and his sister-in-law, Randy Hagan of CA.

He is also survived by his poker buddies, with some special thanks going out to Whiskey Jim.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street, Hudson Falls.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church, on the park in Hudson Falls with the Rev. Thomas Babiuch, pastor, officiating.

The Rite of Committal with military honors, provided by American Legion Post 574 of Hudson Falls,  will follow at Mary’s Cemetery on Burgoyne Ave. in the town of Fort Edward.

As Fred always said, “I’ve had a good life.”

 

Alfredo A. Simione

Simione #1Alfred Simione #2MOREAU – Alfredo A. Simione, 91, went home to the Lord, on Friday April 20, 2018, at the Fort Hudson Health Care Facility in Fort Edward.

Born on August 6, 1926 in Pittsfield, MA, he was the son of Italian Immigrants, the late Alberico and Carmella (Bove) Simione.

Alfred was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served his country during WWII.

In 1954, he married Eleanor DeLorenzo.  They have been married for 63 years.

Alfred was employed as a bus driver at Wilton Developmental Center in Wilton.   He also worked as a bus driver for the Queensbury School District.  At one time, Alfred owned a pizza/sub shop called Gino’s, located in Corinth.   Alfred was Mr. Fix it at Hudson View/Simione’s Bakery.   Anytime something broke, he would get a call at any hour and was always there to help.

Alfred enjoyed visiting his friends and family.  He loved going to places like, Pete’s Diner, Lox of bagels, ACE Hardware and Roma’s Imports.  Alfred especially enjoyed helping Matt at Rockhill Bakehouse, doing whatever was needed.   He liked spending time with his children and siblings to make sure that everyone was doing well.   Most of all, he enjoyed watching his grandchildren take part in activities, such as singing, going out to breakfast and dinner with his grandson, going to school events and spending time on the farm.   Alfred believed that a good education and going to church, were the most important parts in a person’s life.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Josephine Varney, his two brothers, Dominick and Frank Simione and several in-laws and close friends.

Survivors include his loving wife, Eleanor (DeLorenzo) Simione of Moreau; his four children, Donna (Mark Ehrhardt) Nolin of Lake Luzerne, Peter (Libby) Simione of Moreau, Stephen Simione of Moreau and Christina (Justin) Sievers of Easton; four grandchildren, Jeremy John Nolin of Fort Edward, Isaac Frederick , Paul Simione and Sarah Eleanor Sievers, all of Easton; his siblings, Mary Simione of Brooklyn, Anthony Simione of Moreau, Edith Orsini of Glens Falls, Rosey Granger of Glens Falls, Victoria Mumblo of Hudson Falls, Diana (Robert) Martin of Queensbury, Michael (Gail) Simione of Hudson Falls and Fannie Tatsie of Moreau; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at St. Michael’s The Archangel Church, 80 Saratoga Avenue in South Glens Falls.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Michael’s The Archangel Church, with the Rev. Guy A. Childs, pastor, officiating.

The Rite of Committal will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, following the Mass, at Gerald B.H. Solomon-Saratoga National Cemetery in Stillwater.

 

The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Moreau Emergency Squad, Inc. 1583, US 9, Fort Edward, NY 12828.

Arrangements are under the care of the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Gloria J. Jones

Jones, GloriaHUDSON FALLS – Gloria J. Jones, 76, of Lexington Avenue, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on July 20, 1941 in Hudson Falls, she was the daughter of the late H. Robert and Elizabeth B. (Meron) Evans.

Gloria attended Hudson Falls Schools and on June 15, 1960, she married Leonard Jones.  He passed away on October 3, 2003.

From 1983 to 1991, Gloria, along with her husband, Leonard, owned LaCabanna Restaurant on Glen Lake.  Being there was perfect for Gloria, because she loved being around people.   After her time at LaCabanna Restaurant, Gloria began working as a  Home Health Care Aide for the elderly.  This also was perfect for Gloria, as she enjoyed taking care of people.  

She loved playing the slots and shopping with her sister, Carol.  Gloria had a strong faith which she carried with her throughout her life.  She had an open door policy at her home.  Those that needed at bed were always welcome and those that needed a meal, never left hungry.   She was a loving and caring mom, a kind grandmother and great grandmother.  In fact, Gloria was proud to have been everyone’s Nana.  Her motto in life was “Be quick to forgive.”

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her granddaughter, Jeana Lynn Brayton, her brothers in law, Robert Hoffer and Roy VanKirk; her nephew, William Hoffer and her niece, Kim Duell.

Survivors include her five children, Charles Jones and his wife, Rebecca of Fort Ann, Elizabeth Henry and her fiancé, Jimmy Smith of Glens Falls, Leonard Jones and his wife, Jody of Glens Falls, Corrina Brayton and her husband, Ralph of Glens Falls and Barnaby Jones and his wife, Jamie of Glens Falls; her grandchildren, Benjamin Harrington, Natasha Jones, Elizabeth Jones, Justin Jones, Catherine Stukes, Dylan Paquette, Britney Jones, Anthony Jones, Cheyanne Jones, Grace Elaine Jones, Preston Jones, Coty Brayton, Mattisin Brayton, Nathan Brayton, Scout Jones, Tierney Jones and Cullen Jones; 16 great grandchildren; her sisters, Joyce McLaughlin and her husband, Gary of Lake George, Elaine Hoffer of Hudson Falls and Carol VanKirk of Fort Edward; her brother, Robert Evans and his wife, Cindy of Lake George; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on Monday, April 23, 2018, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

The Rite of Committal will be conducted at 9:30 A.M. on Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at St. Mary’s Cemetery in the town Fort Edward, with Rev.Thomas Babiuch, officiating.

While at the Glens Falls Hospital, Gloria always looked for Tice Magee, Nicole Carl, Sharon and Tonya Scoville because they were so kind and compassionate to her.  The family wishes to thank them and the entire staff on T-6 and T-2 for taking such good care of Gloria.

Mary “Helen” Carpenter

Carpenter, HelenHUDSON FALLS- Mary “Helen” Carpenter, 86, of King Avenue, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at The Pines in Glens Falls.

Born on October 5, 1931 in Fort Edward, she was the daughter of the late Irenus J. and Alice (Stoughton) Keenan.

Helen graduated from Whitehall High School in 1948.  Following graduation, she worked for the telephone company for several years.  She then started her career in the banking industry, working initially at Key Bank in Whitehall for ten years, finally retiring from First National Bank in Hudson Falls.

On October 25, 1958, she married Roderick “Rod” Carpenter at Our Lady of Angels Church in Whitehall.

Bowling played an important part in Helen’s life and she was a member of a league and took several trips to participate in tournaments. She also enjoyed golfing with family and friends at Wedgewood in Fort Edward. She loved traveling and took frequent trips to places such as Maine, New Hampshire, Hawaii, Florida and New York City.

She was an active member of the Catholic Daughters in Whitehall as well as the Sandy Hill Committee.

In spite of her many interests and activities, her family and friends always came first in Helen’s life.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Kathy Carpenter; and her brothers, James and Robert Keenan.

Survivors include her husband, Rod Carpenter of Hudson Falls; her sister, Patricia Keenan of Hudson Falls; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Thanks go out to Dr. Gray, Dr. Tedesco, Elaine Williams, the nurses and aides at the Pines and Fort Hudson for the wonderful care given to Helen and her family.  Helen’s family also wishes to thank Doris Underwood for her kindness, prayers and cards.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 A.M. at St. Mary’s / St. Paul’s on the Park in Hudson Falls, on Saturday, April 21, 2018.

The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery in the town of Kingsbury.

John F. Weber

Weber, John F.HUDSON FALLS- John F. Weber, 90, of Hudson Falls passed into the arms of the Lord on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on December 27, 1927, in Troy, New York, he was the son of the late Joseph Patrick and Mary Catherine (Speanburg) Weber.

John attended St. Mary’s School in Hudson Falls.

He was a U.S. Navy Veteran Seaman First Class from May 4, 1945 to August of 1946.

John married Helen E. Shaw in 1950, in Fort Ann. She passed away in 2012 after 62 years of marriage.

He started his career as a welder for General Electric in Hudson Falls, and later moved on to Fort Edward, retiring after 45 years of service.

In his younger years, John was a volunteer fireman for Kingsbury Volunteer Hose Company.  As John had a love for animals, he enjoyed working on the Sczostack Farm as well as, the Bishop Farm.  In his free time, he loved to play baseball.

John was someone who was always there for anyone in need, willing to lend a helping hand. In his later years, he got much pleasure by sitting on his porch and keeping track of the neighborhood.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Helen; his daughter, Mary, his grandsons, Roy Schult, Ryun Bailey; his brothers, Joseph, George, his twin brother, Robert, Harold and Gene and his sister, Betty Duncian.

Survivors include his four children, Patricia DeLong and her husband, Raymond, Jr. of Hudson Falls, Beverly Cheeney and her husband, Robert of South Glens Falls, John Charles Weber and his significant other, Karen of Hudson Falls, Lynne Bailey and her husband, David of Hudson Falls; his two brothers, Paul and Jimmy Weber; twelve grandchildren; several great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on Friday, April 20, 2018, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street, Hudson Falls, NY.

Burial will take place following the calling hours at the Union Cemetery.

amesHUDSON FALLS – Theodore W. Ames, 57, of Hudson Falls, passed away after a long illness, on Wednesday, April 11, 2018.

Born on August 24, 1960 in Rutland, VT, he was the son of Shirley  (Mercier) Case of Fort Edward and the late Eustache Ames.

Ted was a graduate of Hudson Falls High School and for over 20 years, was an employee of Coca Cola.

He enjoyed fishing, the outdoors and NASCAR.  His family was very important to him. Ted was a “beloved” uncle to all.

Besides his father, his stepfather, George Case passed away before him.

Survivors include his mother, Shirley Case of Fort Edward; his three brothers, Tim Ames of Fort Edward, Jason Mattison of Wasilla, Alaska and Greg VanDeusen and his wife, Lisa of Greenwich; his two sisters, Theresa (Ames) Backus of Moreau and Tina Ames of Gillette, Wyoming; his nephews, Kelly Ames of Moreau, Jacob Mattison, who is now serving in the US Air Force in New Mexico, Bradley Mattison and Tyler Mattison, all of Wasilla, Alaska; and his niece, Emily Mattison of Wasilla, Alaska.

Ted had many lifelong friends whom he deeply cherished.

Joshua “Frog” Fronhofer

fronhoferFORT ANN –  It is with great sadness that the family of Joshua L. Fronhofer (known as Frog to his friends) of Fort Ann passed away on April 13 as the result of injuries sustained in an accidental fall.

He was born in Glens Fall, NY on June 22, 1979 to his loving mother Dottie Story and father Leonard Fronhofer IV. He was raised in Glens Falls and South Glens Falls and attended both schools.

He had been employed as a roofer for many years and was a skilled craftsman at his trade.

The Primary love of his life was his son Noah. All that he did and tried to do was motivated by his love for Noah. He also loved his family and was devoted to and enjoyed social outings with many friends.

He was an adamant football fan and his favorite NFL team was the Oakland Raiders. He also enjoyed fishing and horseshoes. Some of Happiest and most memorable moments of his life involve him doing activities with his son, niece and nephew.

He is survived by his son Noah Fronhofer, his loving mother Dottie and step father Alex Story Bis brother Joel Collins and niece Mia Collins and his Sister Tiffany Collins and nephew Abel Collins and Sister Kat Fronhofer. Grandmothers Jane Story and Donna Merlow and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St, Hudson Falls with a service to follow at 7 p.m, at the funeral home.

Burial is at the convenience of the family.

Mark A. Dumas,

ARGYLE –Mark A. Dumas, Dumas, Mark 61, of North Argyle, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at the Glens Falls Hospital, after a long illness.

Born on June 23, 1956, in Glens Falls, he was the son of Ruth (Antonsen) Dumas and the late Richard Dumas, Sr.

Mark was a graduate of South Glens Falls High in 1975 and following graduation, he began his journey across the country, driving tractor trailers.  He drove for 30 years and loved every minute of it.  Mark got to see almost every state in this beautiful country and was able to meet people and make friends from all walks of life.

In his younger years, Mark was a Boy Scout and a member of the Explorer Scouts.  He was also a member of the Moreau Junior Squad and the Moreau Emergency Squad.

Mark enjoyed camping all over the Adirondacks and Pennsylvania with his friends.  He also loved listening to almost all kinds of music, from classical to classic country.

Mark had a special place in his heart for his mother.  He was a kind and giving son who would never refuse his mother anything.  Mark also will be remembered for being a great friend to all and always putting other’s first.

He is survived by his beloved mother, Ruth C. Dumas of South Glens Falls; his siblings, Richard A. Dumas, Jr. and his companion, Pat Reynolds of Fort Ann, James A. Dumas of South Glens Falls and Sandra Fuller of South Glens Falls; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and many wonderful friends.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 20, 2018, at Southside Cemetery in the town of Moreau.

Mark’s family would like to thank the wonderful nurses at the Glens Falls Hospital, especially, Colleen, Debbie and Tom for the exceptional care and compassion given to Mark and his family.

Jeannette Margaret Mary (Bombard) Breault

Breault, Jeannette Breault, Jeannette 1HUDSON FALLS – Jeannette Margaret Mary (Bombard) Breault, 93, passed away peacefully at The Pines at Glens Falls, on Saturday, April 7, 2018.

Born on March 2, 1925, at her home at 81 River Street in Hudson Falls, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Mary (Quarters) Bombard.  Jeannette survived all the original Bombard and Breault family members.

She attended all her schooling at St. Paul’s Church and School in Hudson Falls.

In 1949, Jeannette married Theodore A. Breault, Sr.  He passed away in December of 1959.

In her younger years, Jeannette worked for Bromley’s Nursing Home in Fort Edward, where she was a nurse’s aide.

Jeannette was a communicant of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls.   She was an avid reader, having read thousands of books during her life.   Jeannette especially loved reading Steven King and other mystery books.   She also enjoyed solving puzzle books and assembling puzzles.  Jeannette loved watching TV shows, including a good SiFi movie.   The center of her life was taking care of her home, family and pets.   She was a private person, who loved being home, watching tv and taking care of her animals.

Jeannette is survived by her four children, Melody Ann Breault and her companion, Ed of Hudson Falls, Theodore A. Breault, Jr. and his wife, Patty of Washington, Kane M. Breault of Hudson Falls and Terry L. Breault of South Glens Falls; six grandchildren, Steven Mattison and his wife, Karen, Debra Jean “DJ” Breault, Tory Deckert and her husband, Ron, Ashley Weaver and her husband, Scott, Justin Breault and his wife, Laura and Adam Lee Breault; several great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, from 12 to 1 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Ralph Passino

Passino, RalphHUDSON FALLS – Ralph Passino, 64, passed away on Monday, April 2, 2018, with his family by his side, including his lovely daughter, Tara.

Born on January 5, 1954, in Elizabethtown, NY, Ralph was a kind and gentle soul, some might even refer to him as a hippie. Once he met you, he considered you his friend for life.

Ralph served 4 years in the U.S. Navy, stationed on board the destroyer USS O’Bannon.  He was very proud of his service.

He worked as a bartender his whole working life and enjoyed it tremendously. That’s all he wanted to do and thought it was the best job in the world.

He played sports throughout high school, baseball, basketball and soccer. He was an above average baseball and basketball player and played on some very successful teams. He always talked about his teammates and remembered them fondly.

He was predeceased by his father, Felix W. Passino; his mother, Jeanne Fuller Marino; his stepfather, Thomas M. Marino; his sister, Sharon Corkhill and his brother, Bruce.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Tara Anne Melrose and her husband, Ty; his sister, Janet Rollo and her husband, Bob; his sister, Jane Passino; his brother, Greg Passino; his sister Suzanne Marino DelSignore and her husband, Dan; his sister, Jeanne Marino; his nieces, Alesa, Liz and Rachel; his nephew Nate and his fiancé, Terri; his nephew, Brian Rollo; his nieces, Jennifer Kapas and Christa Detrick and her husband, Dan; his nephew, Kenneth Corkhill and his niece, Michelle Faulkner.

Ralph fondly remembered his days growing up in Westport and wanted everyone up there to know he loved you guys!!

Nancy Carol Martin

Martin, NancyHUDSON FALLS – Nancy Carol Martin, 76, of Hudson Falls, NY passed away peacefully on Monday, April 2nd, 2018, surrounded by her loving family at the Glens Falls Hospital, following a long battle with cancer.

She was the only child of Helen (Stockwell) Omiecinski and the late John Omiecinski, born on March 21st, 1942.

For many years she was the owner of Nancy’s Yarn & Gift Shop in Hudson Falls. She and the late Gordon Martin had an affinity towards each other and together they raised three children, one son and two daughters.

Nancy enjoyed being active and was always on the go. She loved knitting, crocheting, dancing and shooting pool.  She loved garage sales, shopping, going out to eat and attending the casinos with her two daughters, Carol and Jamie. Nancy was well known for her gift of gab and her kindheartedness. Nothing meant more her family. She adored her parents, her children and her grandchildren.

Nancy is survived by her mother Helen Omiecinksi, her daughters Carol Martin (Chip Pregent), Jamie (Richard) Wilson, and her son John (Debbie) Martin, all of whom will miss her greatly. She was blessed with numerous grandchildren wh owill cherish her memory; Joslyn (Mark) Brown, Brandi Gitto, Paul Wilson, Jackie (Matt) Benedetti, Daniel Needham, Ashley Martin, Ryan (Marissa) Martin, Chaz Wilson, Brian Martin, Kevin Martin and Jakob Pregent great grandchildren who loved her deeply, Marky, Raelyn, Leilla, Daniel, and Ryan and an uncle Robert (Ann) Stockwell.

She also had many nieces, nephews, cousins and her family from Waterbury, Connecticut and her longtime friend Roy Sanders who all loved her dearly.

The family would like to thank Dr. Yun and Dr. Pillemer who oversaw her health during her final years in addition to the staff on floor T2 of Glens Falls Hospital for the care and compassion they provided to Nancy and her family during this difficult time. A special thanks to Lynn Zito for always being there.

She will be missed and remembered always. For all who knew her, many beautiful memories endure.

A graveside service will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

Following the graveside all are welcome to celebrate Nancy’s life at the VFW on Luzerne Rd in the town of Queensbury, beginning at 2 p.m.

LaPan,Thomas W.SOUTH GLENS FALLS- Thomas W. LaPan, 71, of South Glens Falls, passed away at his home on Saturday, March 31, 2018, after a long battle with COPD.

Born in Glens Falls on December 15, 1946, he was the son of the late Albert and Lillian (Lemery) LaPan.

Tom was a graduate of Hudson Falls High School.

Following graduation, he joined the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of Sergeant in the Eighth Division, serving his country during the Vietnam War.

He married Melanie Jones on January 23, 1987.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but his family always came first for him.

Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Melanie (Jones) LaPan of South Glens Falls;  his four children: Logan LaPan and her significant other, Andrew Whiting of Hudson Falls, Brandi LaPan and her significant other, Justin Whiting of South Glens Falls, Lori Handlon and her husband Ryan of Las Vegas, Nevada, Matthew LaPan and his significant other, Barbie Ryerson of Fort Ann; and a special mention of Crystal LeFaucheur of South Glens Falls. His grandchildren: Lucien LeFaucheur, Sabrina Handlon, Kyran Handlon, and Willow LaPan. His sisters, Nancy Barnes (George, deceased) of Hudson Falls, and Barbara Oligny of Queensbury. His Aunt Muriel Dorsey of Fort Ann, and several special nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street, Hudson Falls, NY 12839.

Burial, with full military honors provided by American Legion Post 574 of Hudson Falls, will take place at Union Cemetery in Fort Edward on Friday at 2 p.m.

His family asks that donations in Tom’s name be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Special thanks to friends who have kept in touch through the years and special thanks, as well, to Dr. Coppens, Cherie Coe and his staff for always being there and offering their help.

Marshall B. Seelye

Seelye, MarshallHudson Falls- Marshall B. Seelye, 91 passed away peacefully on Monday, April 2nd and is now on the way to be with his wife Evelyn. Born at home on North Street in the Village of Hudson Falls, October 3rd, 1926. He was the son and only child of Loren Burt and Bertha (Browne) Seelye. He was very proud of his heritage, being of the 12th generation of Seelye’s in the US and a descendant of Robert and Mary Seelye who landed at Boston in 1630 with Governor Winthrop and settled in Watertown, Ma.. He was a direct descendant Nehemiah Seelye, one of the original patentee’s of the Queensbury Patent that settled here with Abraham Wing’s group in 1762. He graduated from Hudson Falls High School, class of 1944 and served in the Merchant Marines on the Liberty ship “Hamlin Garland” in the Pacific during WW II. He occasionally spoke about delivering 400,000 cases of beer to the troops on Saipan. On June 21, 1947 he married Evelyn J. Washburn at the Gospel Lighthouse Church in Hudson Falls.

He was an entrepreneur from a very early age. Starting in 1935 at the age of 9 he sold door to door magazine and paper subscriptions. That winter in Orlando he took burlap bags to the orange grove, picked up drops and brought them back to sell in the trailer park. Back on North Street in Hudson Falls, next spring he started selling Clover Leaf Pie Vents and when the grape vines in the side yard became loaded, he took bags full to Mr. Mayotte at his grocery store on the north east corner of Main and Locust. When he got his pony, a Shetland, he rode to R. Cohen’s up on Geer Street with newspapers and rags for scrap. When he was in Jr. High School he went to the Hudson Falls Paper Co. and bought note book paper by the case and sold it to the other students by the pad. As time went on he went into other endeavors and sold McNess Products, Christmas Cards and seeds from Lancaster Seed Co.. When living on Short Street in Pottersville in the early 50s, he cut cedar fence posts in the winter and dragged them out to the road on a piece of roofing metal, to sell. It was when living up there, he and Jack Ingraham, a school buddy, started making and selling Pincheon’s Potato Chips packaged them in glassine wax bags. He was an Avon Sales Rep., Kirby Vacuum salesman and Fuller Brush salesman. He contracted to haul Northern Homes prefabs into PA. and brought back coal to sell. He worked at Decora and Scott Paper for a short period of time. He logged and cut pulp for local paper mills. He ran The Atlantic gas station on Warren St. across from the Hyde, where the Pines is now.

It was while working as foreman for Dick and Frank Roberts of Haviland Farms, on Haviland Road ( Where the Highland Golf Club is now) he was taking flying lessons and was talked into becoming an auctioneer, by his instructor. He served and flew with the Civil Air Patrol. From 1963 to 1980 he and Evelyn built a well known and revered auction business, starting in auctioneer Manny Weller’s converted cow barn on Sanfords Ridge and later due to a disastrous fire, moved to the corner of Quaker and Highland. Upon selling the business to his son Martin, he and Evelyn retired the first time and wintered for 17 years in Englewood, Florida. Becoming bored after a year, he opened a furniture stripping business in Englewood. After a few years of that he sold the business,  bought a Freightliner tractor trailer, signed on with a long distance company and he and Evelyn trucked goods to all of the lower 48 states. 3 years later they retired again.

He was an active member of the Oneida Community Church in Queensbury. He was President of the Queen Ann Seniors of Fort Ann, president of the Glens Falls area Council of Churches, president of the Auringer-Seelye Archaeological Society and for many years president of the Seeley Genealogical Society.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn, whom he was married to for 58 years and grand son-in-law Robert Dixon.

He is survived by his son, Martin A. Seelye and partner Susan L.Thorne, of Kingsbury, a daughter, Judy Shaw and husband Bill, of Venice, Florida. A daughter in law, Arlene Seelye and partner Eric, Grandchildren, Cory Seelye Dixon and Great Granddaughter Zada, of Glens Falls and Chad Seelye and wife Marianne of Queensbury.

At Marshall’s request there will not be any calling hours or service. Burial will take place at Pineview Cemetery at a later date.
