Mary “Helen” Carpenter

Carpenter, HelenHUDSON FALLS- Mary “Helen” Carpenter, 86, of King Avenue, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at The Pines in Glens Falls.

Born on October 5, 1931 in Fort Edward, she was the daughter of the late Irenus J. and Alice (Stoughton) Keenan.

Helen graduated from Whitehall High School in 1948.  Following graduation, she worked for the telephone company for several years.  She then started her career in the banking industry, working initially at Key Bank in Whitehall for ten years, finally retiring from First National Bank in Hudson Falls.

On October 25, 1958, she married Roderick “Rod” Carpenter at Our Lady of Angels Church in Whitehall.

Bowling played an important part in Helen’s life and she was a member of a league and took several trips to participate in tournaments. She also enjoyed golfing with family and friends at Wedgewood in Fort Edward. She loved traveling and took frequent trips to places such as Maine, New Hampshire, Hawaii, Florida and New York City.

She was an active member of the Catholic Daughters in Whitehall as well as the Sandy Hill Committee.

In spite of her many interests and activities, her family and friends always came first in Helen’s life.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Kathy Carpenter; and her brothers, James and Robert Keenan.

Survivors include her husband, Rod Carpenter of Hudson Falls; her sister, Patricia Keenan of Hudson Falls; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Thanks go out to Dr. Gray, Dr. Tedesco, Elaine Williams, the nurses and aides at the Pines and Fort Hudson for the wonderful care given to Helen and her family.  Helen’s family also wishes to thank Doris Underwood for her kindness, prayers and cards.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 A.M. at St. Mary’s / St. Paul’s on the Park in Hudson Falls, on Saturday, April 21, 2018.

The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery in the town of Kingsbury.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations in Helen’s name be made to either the American Cancer Society, 1 Penny Lane, Latham, NY 12110 or to St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church, 11 Wall Street, Hudson Falls, NY 12839.
