Tom LaPan

LaPan,Thomas W.SOUTH GLENS FALLS- Thomas W. LaPan, 71, of South Glens Falls, passed away at his home on Saturday, March 31, 2018, after a long battle with COPD.

Born in Glens Falls on December 15, 1946, he was the son of the late Albert and Lillian (Lemery) LaPan.

Tom was a graduate of Hudson Falls High School.

Following graduation, he joined the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of Sergeant in the Eighth Division, serving his country during the Vietnam War.

He married Melanie Jones on January 23, 1987.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but his family always came first for him.

Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Melanie (Jones) LaPan of South Glens Falls;  his four children: Logan LaPan and her significant other, Andrew Whiting of Hudson Falls, Brandi LaPan and her significant other, Justin Whiting of South Glens Falls, Lori Handlon and her husband Ryan of Las Vegas, Nevada, Matthew LaPan and his significant other, Barbie Ryerson of Fort Ann; and a special mention of Crystal LeFaucheur of South Glens Falls. His grandchildren: Lucien LeFaucheur, Sabrina Handlon, Kyran Handlon, and Willow LaPan. His sisters, Nancy Barnes (George, deceased) of Hudson Falls, and Barbara Oligny of Queensbury. His Aunt Muriel Dorsey of Fort Ann, and several special nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street, Hudson Falls, NY 12839.

Burial, with full military honors provided by American Legion Post 574 of Hudson Falls, will take place at Union Cemetery in Fort Edward on Friday at 2 p.m.

His family asks that donations in Tom’s name be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Special thanks to friends who have kept in touch through the years and special thanks, as well, to Dr. Coppens, Cherie Coe and his staff for always being there and offering their help.
