Irene E. Sherman

Sherman, IreneHUDSON FALLS – Irene E. Sherman, 83, of Hudson Falls, passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2015, at the Orchard in Granville.

Born on August 30, 1932, in Argyle, she was the daughter of the late John and Bessie (Ketchum) Reid.

On June 4, 1949, she married Edward J. Sherman at St. Mary’s Church in Hudson Falls.

She was a Communicant of the St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Hudson Falls.

Mrs. Sherman was the secretary for Ed Sherman Plumbing and Heating in Hudson Falls.

She loved golf and traveling.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Edward J. Sherman, her granddaughter, CherylAnn Sherman and her sister, Marion Nelson.

Survivors include her son George Sherman of Girard, PA, and his daughters, Katie and Carrie; her daughter, Jo-Ann Hayes and her husband, Benjamin, of Hudson Falls, and her children, Jennifer Peterson and her husband, John of Broomfield, CO and Edward DePalo and his wife, Jessica, of Hudson Falls; her great grandchildren, Tara DePalo, Gianna DePalo, Henry Peterson and Reid Peterson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church on the park in Hudson Falls.

The Rite of Committal will follow at Union Cemetery in the Town of Fort Edward.

It was Mrs. Sherman’s wish that memorial donations be made to the Orchard Nursing and Rehab Center, 10421 NY-40, Granville, NY 12832.

Irene’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Orchard Nursing and Rehab Center A Wing, the Glens Falls Hospital Emergency Room and 3 West B at the Glens Falls Hospital, for all their care and compassion.

Michael K. Nichols

  HUDSON FALLS – Michael K. Nichols, 64, of Hudson Falls, passed away surrounded by his loving family, Wednesday, November 25, 2015, at Glens Falls Hospital after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
Born December 31, 1950, he was the son of the late Francis H. and Mary (Carson) Nichols.  

In 1969, Mike graduated from Hudson Falls High School.

On January 15, 1972, Mike married Colleen Stanton at Sacred Heart Church in Lake George.

Mike lived for many years with his loving wife, Colleen, and his daughters, in South Glens Falls and recently moved to Kingsbury.

He was employed by Sandy Hill Corp. for 24 years and for Ace Hardware for 7 years. Mike was an active EMT and critical care technician for over 30 years, working and volunteering for various squads including, Empire Ambulance, Warrensburg EMS, Argyle Rescue Squad and Moreau Emergency Rescue Squad. Mike thought all of his EMS co-workers as his second family and talked of them often. In his youth, Mike was proud to obtain the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in South Glens Falls.

Mike enjoyed his numerous camping trips to Lewey Lake, Rollins Pond, the Granville Camp and the traditional men’s weekend, to name a few. He also enjoyed singing his special camp fire songs with family and friends, fishing with his many fishing buddies and deer hunting. More recently, Mike loved his new camp on Lake Ontario, where just this past summer he caught his first salmon.  

Each time Mike gained a son in law he also gained such wonderful extended families, that he thought of as his own.  

Survivors include his wife, Colleen Nichols of Hudson Falls; his four daughters, Michelle Patch (Jim) of Middle Granville, Erin Varney (Brett) of Hudson Falls, Katie Waite (Chris) of Middle Granville and Sara Lehoisky (Russ) of South Glens Falls; his grandchildren, Ethan Patch, Derek Patch, Alex Varney, Mikayla Varney, , Ashley Waite, Cameron Waite, Jacob Lehoisky, Mark Patch (Becky), Adam Patch (Robbie Briskie) and Michael Patch (Brooke Larock); his great grandchildren, Jacie Patch, Brayden Patch and Dallas Webster; his brother Francis Nichols (Beverly) of Corinth; his sisters, Anne Nichols of Hudson Falls, Helen LaRose of Woodbridge, VA and Kathy Lindsey (Paul) of Chittenango; his life long friends Steve Duell (Marie); his mother in law, Jean Stanton; his sister in law, Linda McNulty (Chuck);his brother in law David Stanton; his sidekick, Sadie “ the muttonhead”; his 1950 Chevy truck, as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, whom he adored;. Mike is also survived by many close friends who lovingly referred to him as “Mr. Mike”.

Mike’s family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Robert Evans, Dr. John Stoutenburg and his staff at the C.R. Wood Cancer Center, the staff of the emergency room, I.C.U. and tower 2 at the Glens Falls Hospital for their compassionate care they gave to Mike and his family.

Friends may call on Monday, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street, in Hudson Falls.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, at 11 a.m., at St. Michael the Archangel Church in South Glens Falls, with the Reverend Tony Childs, pastor, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the C.R. Wood Cancer Center, 102 Park St., Glens Falls, New York 12801, the Argyle Rescue Squad, or the Warrensburg Rescue Squad.

 

John S. Cozzens

CozzensFORT ANN – John S. Cozzens, 49, of Fort Ann, died unexpectedly on Monday, November 23, 2015, at his home, from a rare heart condition.

Born on April 9, 1966, in Glens Falls, he was the son of Elmer “Nip” and Ruth M. (Huntsman) Cozzens.

John was a graduate of Queensbury High School, and earned his associates degree from SUNY Adirondack.

He proudly served in the United States Navy, for a time he was stationed at Pearl Harbor and Scotland.

On December 21, 2013, he married Lorraine Rogers at Hadlock Pond.

John loved his job as a machinist at General Electric Company in Vermont.  He was very proud to have coached his daughter, Nicole, volleyball and softball teams and loved watching his girls play sports.  He also enjoyed and was an accomplished fisherman.  There wasn’t a bass that John couldn’t catch.  He was an avid pool player and loved playing a hand of cards with his family and friends.

John was known for his sarcasm and sense of humor.  Most of all, he was a loving father and husband and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He was predeceased by his father in law, Edward Rushlow.

In addition to his parents, John is survived by his wife, Lorraine Cozzens of Fort Ann; his children, Nicole Cozzens of Washington and Danielle Cozzens and  his soon to be grandson, Cooper Cozzens of Washington, and their mother, Cathy of Saratoga; his step children, Brandon Rogers of Florida and Ashley Vrooman and her husband, Andrew of North Carolina; his brothers, Peter Jones-Cozzens and his husband, Peter Mathew of Essex, Vermont, Michael Cozzens and his wife, Karen of Fort Edward and their children, Michael Cozzens, Jr. and his wife, Kim of Clifton Park and their children, Madelyn and Grace, Aaron Cozzens and his significant other, Erin of Hudson Falls, Kyle Cozzens of Fort Edward and Randy Cozzens of Fort Edward, his brother, Mark Cozzens and his significant other, Karen of Fort Edward and their children, Alexis and Nicole; his aunt Carol Huntsman of Vermont and her children, Jamie Huntsman, Bill Huntsman and Susan Macary and his aunt Sandy Valerie; his mother in law, Nanette “Nancy” Rushlow of West Fort Ann; his brother in law, Scott Rushlow and his son Corey and his brother in law, Larry Rushlow and his wife, Dianna of Kingsbury and their children, Lindsey Rushlow and her significant other, Ian McPhee and their children, Addysyn and Nolan.

Friends may call on Sunday, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home with the Reverend Thomas Babiuch, officiating.

Burial with full military honors will follow the service, Monday, at 1:30 p.m., at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in the town of Stillwater.

Following the graveside services, everyone is welcome to a gathering at the Fort Ann Rescue Squad, 11287 Route 149, in Fort Ann.

Joseph “Joe” E. Roman, Jr.

GLENS FALLS – RomanJoseph “Joe” E. Roman, Jr., 53, of Glens Falls, passed away on November 24, 2015 at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on June 29, 1962 in Saratoga Springs, he was the son of the late Joseph E. Roman, Sr. and Marie (McVeigh) Roman.

Joe graduated from St. Peter’s Academy in Saratoga Springs and attended SUNY Adirondack, graduating with his Associates Degree.

He worked as a Verizon technician doing business and home installations and repairs.  He retired recently, after 32 years of service.

Joe loved playing golf, especially swinging his club at Queensbury Country Club.  He was an avid Yankee fan and enjoyed watching football games and also the Red Wings play hockey.  Every year, Joe headed to Watkins Glen to watch NASCAR.    Joe loved spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his significant other, Denise Story of Glens Falls; Denise’s son, Todd Story and his wife, Caitlin of Queensbury and their daughter, Eloise Story; his brother, Thomas J. Roman and his wife, Laurie of Watertown; his nephews, Thomas J. Roman, II of South Bend, Indiana and Michael B. Roman of Watertown; and several cousins.

Friends may call on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church on the park in Hudson Falls, with the Rev. Thomas Babiuch, pastor, officiating.

The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery in the town of Kingsbury.

Nancy Fredrica Ida (Alberti) Ulrich

QUEENSBURY – Nancy Fredrica Ida (Alberti) Ulrich, 54, of Queensbury, passed away Saturday, November 21, 2015, at Glens Falls Hospital.

Born December 8, 1960 in Tarrytown, she was the daughter of Frederica Elsie Ulrich and the late Anthony Joseph Alberti.

Nancy was a graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University, Bernard Baruch College and also continued her education at Drexel University.  Nancy was a lifelong learner who took many courses throughout her life.    She lived, worked and traveled throughout the United States and the world.  Nancy was very proud to have worked in Global Continuing Medical Education for New York Medical College.

Nancy enjoyed photography, landscape design, and plants.  She also loved traveling throughout the world and treasured all the people she encountered along the way.  Nancy’s always had her pets.  She cherished her dogs, Muffin, Lindsay, Kai, Jarrod, Alex, Callee and Shai, her cats, Tiger, Tessa, Demi, Nikos and Phoebe, her many birds, rabbits and all other God’s creatures.   Nancy was an avid reader and a talented jewelry maker.  She enjoyed gardening, studying meteorology and horseback riding.

Nancy was a creative, curious person who loved to learn.  She was funny, a strong survivor and very organized.  She also was a collector of pottery, glass, rocks, items from nature, candles and artwork from her travels.

Nancy was very thankful for all those who stood by her throughout her illness.

There are no services scheduled.

Edward “Eddie” Burch

BurchGROVE CITY, OHIO – Edward “Eddie” Burch, 59, passed away suddenly Thursday, November 19, 2015, in Ohio.

Born on June 25, 1956, in Glens Falls, he was the son of Dorothy (Simpson) Burch and the late William “Bill” Burch, Sr.,.

Eddie was a 1974 graduate of Fort Ann High School.

He proudly served his country in the United States Marines for 20 years. In his spare time, he was a DJ for many parties and events all over the country.  Eddie was very committed and enjoyed playing Santa Clause in the Ohio area.    He also loved going to antique car shows, Americade in Lake George and being an Elvis impersonator.  Eddie was a great father, grandfather and brother and will be missed by many.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Burch of Grove City, OH; his daughter; Brandi Williams and her husband, Justin; his two granddaughters, Ava and Piper Williams; his son:  Timothy Burch, all of Ohio; his mother, Dorothy Burch, of Queensbury, formerly of Hudson Falls; his grandmother, Natelie Simpson; his brothers, Joe Burch, Bill Burch, Jr., Keith Burch; his sisters; Louise(Beth) Corey, Karen Griffen, Kate Russell, Kristine Vedd and Karol Millington; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be a gathering of remembrance at the American Legion, Post 574, 72 Pearl Street, in Hudson Falls, on Dec 1, 2015, from 5 p.m.to 8 p.m .  The family has asked that everyone bring a dish to share.

Alton “Al” Havens

HUDSON FALLS – Alton “Al” Havens, 79, of Thomas Ave., passed away following a long illness on Thursday, November 12, 2015, at home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on November 5, 1936, in Hudson Falls, he was the son of the late Roy and Pauline (Morency) Havens.

Al graduated from Hudson Falls Senior High School and then entered the United States Army.  He served three years as a radio operator and was honorably discharged in 1958.

On September 17, 1960, he married Carol A. McFarren at St. Ann’s Church in Fort Ann.

After serving his country, Al went to work for Finch Pruyn and was the Superintendent of the pulp Yard, retiring in 1997.

He was a communicant of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls.  His enjoyments included, carpentry, woodworking, playing cards, hunting, golf and after retirement he and carol enjoyed boating and winters in Florida.  He was very fond of spending time with friends and family and quite proud of his work fixing and building things for St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church with his friend Skip Gordon.

Besides his parents, Al is predeceased by a son, Daniel Havens, a sister Lorraine Huestis, a brother, Robert Havens and his wife, Peggy, his brothers Jerry Havens and Arthur Havens, a granddaughter Amanda Havens and a sister in law, Martha Havens.

Al is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carol (McFarren) Havens of Hudson Falls; his children, Michael Havens and his wife, Jane of Hudson Falls, Denise Giarusso and her husband Michael of Hudson Falls, Dianna Rushlow and her husband, Larry of Hudson Falls, Danielle Havens of Hudson Falls, his grandchildren, Fallon Jankowski, Thad Jankowski and his companion, Jamie, Lindsey Rushlow and her companion Ian McPhee, Taya Giarusso, Adam Agresta, Brandon Cusick; his great-grandchildren,  Brynn Gilles, Bradlee Gilles, Addysyn McPhee and Nolan McPhee; his brother, Roy Havens of Glens Falls, his brother Ronald W, Havens of Florida; his sister Joyce Gilligan of Glens Falls; his brother James Havens and his wife and his wife Linda, of Glens Falls, his brother Ray Havens and his wife, Joanne of Hudson Falls; several nieces, nephews and cousins and some special friends, Skip and Barb Gordon, Terri and Dick Constant, Jack and Rose Lyons and Holly Hearl.

Tommy “Tom” R. Golden

GoldenHUDSON FALLS – Tommy “Tom” R. Golden, 66. Of Hudson Falls, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2015, at the Glens Falls Hospital, after a long illness.

Golden1Born May 27, 1949, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Robert and Gloria (Stout) Golden.

Tom graduated from Hudson Falls, class of 1967, was a graduate of Albany Business School, SUNY Adirondack, formerly Adirondack Community College, and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in criminal science at Russell Sage College.

He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1969 and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1972.  The Marines were truly a part of Tom’s life.  He served with honor and integrity, traits he lived with all his life.

Tom served his community for almost 29 years on the Hudson Falls Police Department and retired as Sergeant.  At various times he served as a little league coach, Cub Scout Master, a member of the Hudson Falls School Board and Police Benevolent Association President, of which he was one of the original founders.  Tom was one of the instrumental people in procuring the U.S. Marine Corp League, Memorial Detachment #2 building and was the Detachments Toys for Tots program coordinator.  He carried the coordinator position until his ill health forced him to pass the job to another qualified Marine.  In November of 2014, Tom was recognized for his efforts by being named Co-Grand Marshall of the Holiday Parade in South Glens Falls.

Both Tom and his wife, Jeanne, loved to travel and together had travelled the world visiting Aruba, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and France.  They also took yearly trips to Maine, Florida and Ocean City, Maryland.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, John Calhoun, II and his stepfather, John C. Calhoun.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanne; his son, Brett Golden (Melissa, granddaughters Courtney and Kerri); his daughter, Tricia Golden; his stepson, Mathew Sechler (Emily, grandchildren Parker and Ella) and his stepdaughter, Erica Marion (Chris, granddaughter Alexis).

Friends may call on Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.  at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street, in Hudson Falls.

Local police agencies will meet at 3 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home to pay their respects.

Interment will be at the Gerald B.H. Saratoga Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in the town of Stillwater at 2 p.m. on Thursday.

Tom’s family would like to thank the staff at the Glens Falls Hospital and Renal Center for their compassionate care.  Jeanne would also like to thank the staff of the Interventional Radiology Unit for their care and friendship.  You all made the many hours Tom spent there over the past two years more bearable.

Diane Martin

Martin, DianeGLENS FALLS – Diane Martin, of Elm Street and formerly of Hudson Falls, NY passed away on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2015, after a nine year struggle with cancer.

Born on October 15, 1944 in Cleveland Ohio, she was the daughter of Gerhardt and Helen (Kozak) Rauch.

Diane was a graduate of Parma High School in Parma, Ohio and then continued her education at the Cleveland Institute of Music, majoring in piano and organ performance and where she met her future husband, Bill.

On August 28, 1965, she married William “Bill” Martin at the Oehlhoff Methodist Church in Cleveland, OH.

After college, she moved with her husband, who was in the U.S. Army Band, first to Arlington VA, then to New York City, and Newport, New York. Diane and Bill then came to Hudson Falls where Bill taught school and then developed his own businesses while she established herself as a music educator, pianist and organist. She was the organist for the First Presbyterian Church of Hudson Falls for over 25 years and the Music Director for the Temple Beth-El in Glens Falls for over 40 years. One of her proudest life moments was being given the Woman of Valor award (one of the highest awards given by the Jewish Community) and the key to the City of Glens Falls, in 2012.

Diane was truly a woman of valor to all that knew her, especially her loving family, students, and friends. “Adorned with strength and dignity, she looked to the future with strength and trust.” She loved spending time with her boys, seeing them grow, and especially loved seeing them marry, gaining the wonderful daughters she always wanted. She loved traveling with her husband, Bill, and fell in love with the city of Prague in the Czech Republic, to which they returned many times over the years both as a couple and with members of their extended family.

Her father, Gerhardt Rauch passed away before her.

Survivors include her husband, Bill, of more than 50 wonderful years; her two sons, Dylan Martin and his wife Allison of Fredonia, NY and David Martin and his wife Dorothy of Arlington, MA; her mother, Helen (Kozak) Rauch of Medina, Ohio; her sister, Sharon Hofmeister of Sagamore Hills, Ohio; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.

After a private funeral service, burial will take place at a later date at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in the town of Stillwater.

A memorial celebration of Diane’s life will be held in the social hall at Temple Beth-El , 3 Marion Ave., Glens Falls, NY for all who knew and loved her on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015, at 2 P.M.

Yvonne V. Hamelin

HamelinHUDSON FALLS – Yvonne V. Hamelin, 90, of North Street, passed away at home, surrounded by her family on Wednesday, November 11, 2015.

Born on July 28, 1925 in Chicopee Falls, MA, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Mary (Taylor) Gadrick.

In 1942, she married George Hamelin, Sr.   He passed away in 1980.

She and her husband operated George Hamelin Blacktop Paving until her retirement.

Yvonne enjoyed crocheting, playing cards and baking fancy cakes.   Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.

Besides her parents and husband, Yvonne was predeceased by her son, George Hamelin, Jr., a brother, Edward Gadrich, a sister, Marie Lundy and her grandson, Richard Hamelin.

Survivors include her son, Joseph J. Hamelin of Gilboa, NY; her grandchildren, Russell Hamelin, Dawn Marie Ross, Brian Hamelin, Theresa Copeland, Jeff Hamelin, Deborah Hamelin; several great grandchildren; her sister, Dorothy Barber of Granville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Yvonne’s family wishes to thank Pat and Lisa, for the wonderful loving care given to Yvonne.

There will be no services.

Loren Clifford Johnson

Johnson2GLENS FALLS – Loren Clifford Johnson, 89, of Glens Falls, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 11, 2015, at the Glens Falls Hospital, with his daughters, Tambra and Tara, by his side.

Born on September 4, 1926 in Granville, he was the son of the late Dwight Johnson and Fannie Monroe.

Loren attended Hudson Falls, Granville and Hartford Schools.

In 1993, he married Virginia Johnson at their home in Hudson Falls.

Loren did many jobs throughout his life.   He worked on construction for many area firms and also was a land surveyor.  At one time, Loren was the owner and operator of an Exon gas station and also drove taxi.

He loved being around people and they loved spending time with him.  Loren always enjoyed laughing and reminiscing with his friends and family.    He also was known to partake in his cocktails and taking scenic drives to Vermont to pick up his favorite Vermont cheddar cheese.

Besides his wife and parents, Loren was predeceased by his brother, Thomas Johnson and his three sisters, Doris Stewart, Dora Beebe and Margaret Johnson.

Survivors include his children, Tambra Johnson Smith and her husband, Christopher of Queensbury, Tara Vestal and her husband, Matthew of South Glens Falls, Sharon Ruggi and her husband, Ennio of Hudson Falls, Linda Ferry of South Glens Falls, Tim Johnson of Glens Falls and Todd Johnson and his wife, Stephanie of Moreau; his step daughter, Betsy Parker and her husband, Joe of South Ozone Park in Queens; his step son, Patrick Aurelia of Hudson Falls; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on Tuesday, November 17th, from 10- 12 Noon at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 12 Noon on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Middle Granville.

Florence S. Flint

FlintHUDSON FALLS – Florence S. Flint passed away Sunday November 1, 2015.

She was the only child of the late Harry William Speyer and Margaret Mary (Gonyeau) Speyer.

Florence was born in Ticonderoga on September 22, 1931. She graduated from Crown Point High School in 1948 with Regents, and was active as a varsity cheerleader. She also attended Spencer Business Institute in Schenectady from 1953-1954.

Florence married Donald F. Flint in August of 1951.

Florence started her career at Moses Ludington Hospital as an office administrator. She also was the Election Officer and Assessment Clerk for the Town of Crown Point. She was a member of the Eastern Star Organization.

Florence began her career at General Electric Company, patent services in Schenectady NY in 1952. While working in Schenectady, Florence and Don travelled to Crown Point on weekends to work the family-owned restaurant, Friendly’s Tavern. They relocated to Hudson Falls in 1963, where she was an executive secretary for General Electric until her retirement in 1995, transferring to the Fort Edward and Hudson Falls sites.

She was a member of the General Electric Quarter Century Club in Fort Edward and also received many managerial awards.

Florence and Don enjoyed many vacations to Hampton Beach NH and Nova Scotia. Upon her retirement from GE, she and Don moved to Ormond Beach Florida in March of 1998. They enjoyed the beach, gardening, and many local attractions until the opportunity arose to live next to their daughter Donna in Katy Texas in 2006. Grandma loved spending time helping her “boys” with their homework and taking care of the grand-dogs. She was always ready with a snack when they got off the bus.

Florence and Don ultimately returned to Florida in 2008. She always wanted to own a condo on the ocean and fulfilled her dream in Daytona Beach Shores. She enjoyed watching all the visitors driving on the beach or the “sites” as she referred to them. Florence said there was never a dull moment.

Florence is predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Donald F. Flint, her daughter Cynthia A. Flint, and her son William Speyer Flint.

She is survived by her daughter Donna F. Flint Wheeler and her son-in law, Paul (of Chandler Az.), and her four grandsons, Thomas, Phillip, Benjamin, and Jacob. She is also survived by her late husband’s nephew Michael and his wife Cathy Trybendis of Putnam.

Florence was a devoted wife, loving mother, and grandmother. She was the Matriarch of our family. Florence would always say “I am the Mother”. She touched many lives and will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to The Halifax Hospice Port Orange Care Center at 3800 Woodbriar Tr., Port Orange, FL 32129, in memory of The Flint Family.

Friends may call on Thursday, November 12, 2015, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street, in Hudson Falls.

Prayers will be offered at 11 a.m., following the calling hour, at the funeral home.

Burial will take place at Valley View Cemetery in Ticonderoga.

Ross C. “Sonny” Rock, Jr.

RockHUDSON FALLS – Ross C. “Sonny” Rock, Jr., 72, of May Street, passed away peacefully, on Sunday, November 8, 2015, at his home, following a long illness.

Born May 18, 1943 in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Ross and Sophia (Flores) Rock, Sr..

Sonny was very proud to have served his country in the U.S. Army.  To honor other veterans, Sonny would buy small flags to place on their graves at the Union Cemetery.

For over 20 years, he was employed as a mechanic at Carswells Trucks and then for over ten years, until his retirement, at Scott Paper Company in Fort Edward.

Sonny was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Fort Edward.  In his younger years, he loved building and then racing his hot rods at South Glens Falls Dragway.   Sonny also enjoyed deer hunting and fishing in the Adirondacks.

He was always there to help those in need.  Sonny would go hungry to feed those without.  He will be greatly missed by his family and his friends

Besides his parents, Sonny was predeceased by his brother, John Rock and his sisters, Donna Rock McLemore and Sylvia Rock Breton.

Survivors include his brothers, Lloyd Rock and his wife, Ann of Queensbury, Ronald Rock and his wife, Barbara of Hudson Falls and William Rock and his wife, Judith of Hudson Falls; David Pearce, whom he thought of as a son: and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on Thursday, from 4 to 6 p.m.  at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street, in Hudson Falls.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday at St. Joseph’s Church in the town of Fort Edward.

The Rite of Committal will follow at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward, with full military honors provided by Hudson Falls American Legion, post 574..

Sonny’s family wishes to thank Nancy Wever, David Pearce and Christopher Guy for the wonderful care and friendship given to Sonny during his illness.   They also thank Community Hospice, especially nurses, Kelly, Jen and Robin for all the care and advise given to Sonny and his family.
