HUDSON FALLS – Alton “Al” Havens, 79, of Thomas Ave., passed away following a long illness on Thursday, November 12, 2015, at home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on November 5, 1936, in Hudson Falls, he was the son of the late Roy and Pauline (Morency) Havens.

Al graduated from Hudson Falls Senior High School and then entered the United States Army.  He served three years as a radio operator and was honorably discharged in 1958.

On September 17, 1960, he married Carol A. McFarren at St. Ann’s Church in Fort Ann.

After serving his country, Al went to work for Finch Pruyn and was the Superintendent of the pulp Yard, retiring in 1997.

He was a communicant of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls.  His enjoyments included, carpentry, woodworking, playing cards, hunting, golf and after retirement he and carol enjoyed boating and winters in Florida.  He was very fond of spending time with friends and family and quite proud of his work fixing and building things for St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church with his friend Skip Gordon.

Besides his parents, Al is predeceased by a son, Daniel Havens, a sister Lorraine Huestis, a brother, Robert Havens and his wife, Peggy, his brothers Jerry Havens and Arthur Havens, a granddaughter Amanda Havens and a sister in law, Martha Havens.

Al is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carol (McFarren) Havens of Hudson Falls; his children, Michael Havens and his wife, Jane of Hudson Falls, Denise Giarusso and her husband Michael of Hudson Falls, Dianna Rushlow and her husband, Larry of Hudson Falls, Danielle Havens of Hudson Falls, his grandchildren, Fallon Jankowski, Thad Jankowski and his companion, Jamie, Lindsey Rushlow and her companion Ian McPhee, Taya Giarusso, Adam Agresta, Brandon Cusick; his great-grandchildren,  Brynn Gilles, Bradlee Gilles, Addysyn McPhee and Nolan McPhee; his brother, Roy Havens of Glens Falls, his brother Ronald W, Havens of Florida; his sister Joyce Gilligan of Glens Falls; his brother James Havens and his wife and his wife Linda, of Glens Falls, his brother Ray Havens and his wife, Joanne of Hudson Falls; several nieces, nephews and cousins and some special friends, Skip and Barb Gordon, Terri and Dick Constant, Jack and Rose Lyons and Holly Hearl.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., on Monday, at St. Mary’s/ St. Paul’s Church on the park in Hudson Falls with the Rev. Thomas Babiuch, pastor, officiating.

The Rite of Committal, with military honors provided by American Legion Post 574 of Hudson Falls, will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

A special thank you to Al’s best friend Skip Gordon and his brother, Ray Havens for being there for Al and his family.

Al’s family requests that memorial donations in his memory be made to St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church, 11 Wall St., Hudson Falls, NY 12839, a military organization of one’s choice or Community Hospice, 173 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.

    I enjoyed conversations with AL at Lindsey and Ians house addition and it was evident that he would have loved to be helping the boys work on it every day. He enjoyed running errands for them and working on the stairs. A very kind and generous man. Love and hugs to the family.
