HUDSON FALLS – Richard “Dick” Van Aernem, 75, a lifelong Hudson Falls resident, passed away unexpectedly, surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, November 5, 2015, at the Albany Medical Center.

Born on October 8, 1940, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Gorman and Edna (Train) Van Aernem.

Dick was a 1958 graduate of Hudson Falls High School and soon after, enlisted in the United States Air Force.  He loved flying, and was very proud to have his private Pilot’s License.  Dick enjoyed taking his family and friends up in the air.

He was co-owner of Van Aernem’s Dairy, until he sold out to his brother, Tom.     After leaving the milk business, Dick was employed at Finch Pryne, retiring after 20 years.     After his retirement, he worked part time for the Washington County Jail and the Queensbury Country Club.

He was a communicant of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church.     Flying and playing golf were at the top of Dick’s most favorite places to be.  But, the most important part of his life was his family.  Dick loved his best friend, Lori, his children, his siblings and his friends.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Robert Van Aernem and his sister-in-law, Carol Ann Van Aernem.

Dick is survived by his children, Beth Ann Van Aernem, Lindsey Van Aernem and Steven Van Aernem; his granddaughter, Brooke Saunders; his loving companion, Lori Henry; his siblings, George Van Aernem, Mary Hafner and her husband, Harry, Tom Van Aernem and his wife, Renee; his sister-in-law, Barbara Van Aernem; his nieces and nephews, Robbie Van Aernem and his wife, Stacie, Kristin Siefert and her husband, Tim, Jennifer Van Aernem, Brian Van Aernem and his wife, Linsey, Kate Abare, Kim Grover and her husband Mike, Tim Van Aernem, Julie Durham and her husband, Bill, Rich Hafner and his wife, Kelli, Erik Hafner and his wife, Linda, Laura Gillis and her husband, Scott and Krissy Hart and her husband, Phil; and several great nieces, great nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on Monday, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. on Tuesday, at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church on the Park in Hudson Falls.

The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward, with full military honors provided by the Hudson Falls American Legion, Post 574.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent in Dick’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501, St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Jerrold W. Dean

DeanFORT EDWARD – Jerrold W. Dean, 84, of Fort Edward, NY passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday November 5, 2015.

Born on August 2, 1931, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late J. Wyman and Frances O. (Stoddard) Dean.

Jerry graduated from Glens Falls High School in 1949.  He attended Syracuse University from 1952 through 1956 where he received his BS and later completed his graduate work.

In 1993, he married, Janet E. (Coffin) Walsh in Glens Falls.

Jerry worked at Sears Roebuck from 1949 to 1952.  He then took a teaching position in Red Creek, NY for seven years.  In 1963, he began teaching sciences at Hudson Falls High School for 29 years.

He was a longtime resident of Glens Falls before moving to Fort Edward.

As a very active member of the First Baptist Church of Glens Falls, he served as a Sunday school teacher, deacon, Worship Board member, moderator, and a member of the American Baptist Men’s Association.

Jerry always was interested in sports both as a baseball player at Glens Falls High School, as a coach for the Glens Falls Little League and Adirondack Youth Hockey and as a spectator.

In addition to his church work and sports, he enjoyed gardening, reading, camping, sailing, canoeing and was an avid tennis player.

He is predeceased also by his sister Barbara Dean Stone and her husband Richard Stone, his brothers Mack A. Dean and Donald F. Dean, and his sister-in-law Glenda Reynolds Dean.

Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Janet Walsh Dean of Fort Edward; the mother of his five children, Carol Bayle of Queensbury, NY; son John W. Dean and his wife, Terri of Camillus, daughter Jacqueline Dean Freeze of Houston, TX, son Steven Dean and his wife, Tammy of South Glens Falls, son Peter Dean of Austin, TX and son Joseph Dean and his wife, Sandee of Marietta, GA; two step daughters, Lisa Walsh Dougherty and her husband, Thomas, of Guilderland and Laura Walsh Ruthen and her husband, Raymond of Glastonbury, CT; two brothers, David N. Dean of Panama City, FL and sister-in-law Janet Fletcher Dean of Plattsburgh; two sisters, Judith Dean Edmunds and her husband, Richard of Venice, FL and Virginia Dean Coon and her husband, Bruce of Hilton Head, SC; several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a soon to be great granddaughter.

Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00pm on Friday November 6, 2015 at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St. in Hudson Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday November 7th at the First Baptist Church, 100 Maple St. in Glens Falls with the Rev. Linda Hoeschle, pastor, officiating.

Burial will take place in the Glens Falls Cemetery on Bay St. in Glens Falls.
