Antonius Nicholas Sabo, Sr.,

Sabo, tonyHUDSON FALLS – Antonius Nicholas Sabo, Sr., passed away on Sunday, May 18th after a long battle with his failing health.

He was born to the late Emma (Rodd) and Sabo N. Sabo, Sr. on September 23rd, 1927 in Whitehall, New York.  As a young man, Antonius served overseas during WWII with the U.S. Army. Upon his return he attended Ithaca College, graduating with a degree in Business Administration in 1952. He went on to become a successful businessman, eventually owning Troy Shirtmakers Guild. In 1948 he married Mary Jane Marino and they lived together with their children in Hudson Falls, New York.

Antonius was a man of many intellectual pursuits. He loved to study different cultures and marveled at their unique ingenuities. He was also a devoted student of Religion and while himself a practicing Anglican, he was well versed in many theologies. The World was his classroom and everything in it a potential subject – from Gardening to Business and Economics, Antonius never stopped learning.

Antonius has joined his wife Mary Jane Sabo and his siblings Freida Bebe and Elias Sabo Senior. He is survived by siblings Helen Sabo, Kay Lafond, Agnes Schulenberg, Jacob Sabo, Nicholas Sabo, Sabo N. Sabo, Jr. , and Roland Sabo.  Antonius is also survived by 8 children:  Antonius Sabo Jr. and wife Jennifer,  Sandra Strother,  Rebecca Stevens and husband Thomas Romano,  Craig Sabo and wife Gina,  Kathryn Sabo-Strother and husband Richard, Tina-Marie Liles and husband Douglas, Peter Sabo and wife Jamie,  Elias Sabo and wife Caroline;  13 grandchildren:  Asha Martellotta, Eric Sabo and wife Theresa, Adam Sabo, Jessica Sabo, Rachel  Stevens, Niles Stevens,  Brooke Strother, Trevor Strother, Kyra Liles, Arianna Liles, Gabriella Liles, Lindsey Sabo, and Andrew Sabo;  and 2 great-grandchildren:  Molly and Aidan Martellotta.

Calling hours will be on Thursday, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

 A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Friday, at Zion Episcopal Church, 224 Main Street in Hudson Falls, with the Reverend Richard Chandler, Rector, officiating.

 Burial will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.

The family is asking that donations be made to Zion Episcopal Church, 224 Main Street in Hudson Falls, N.Y. 12839.
