Norma E. Maranville

FORT EDWARD – Norma E. Maranville, 84, formerly of Burgoyne Ave, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, July 30, 2017 at Rutland Regional Medical Center in Vermont, after a precious week of family time.

Born on March 15, 1933, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Jennie (Dickinson) Cronquist.

Norma was a 1950 graduate of Fort Edward High School, where she was a proud cheerleader.

On June 18, 1955, she married Thomas Jordan Maranville.  He passed away on November 24, 2001, after 46 years of marriage.

Prior to the birth of her children, she worked for Scott Paper Company.  Norma was also the bookkeeper for her husband’s business, Maranville Excavating.  She was very talented at cake decorating and enjoyed creating masterpieces for many years.

She was an organist at the Fort Edward Methodist Church and choir director. Norma also served as Brownie leader for her daughter’s troop.

Norma was a spunky lady who liked to have fun.   She enjoyed playing the piano while her family gathered around to sing.

She was the spiritual rock of the family.   Her faith was very important to her. Norma was an excellent writer and lay speaker at the former Fort Edward Methodist Church, the Granville Methodist Church and the Hartford Methodist Church.  She called it her coffee cup ministry.  You can’t separate the coffee, cream and sugar, which she likened to the Trinity (The Father, Son and Holy Ghost)

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her son, David Maranville and his granddaughter.

She is survived by her four children, James Maranville and his wife, Sharon, of Granville, Joanne Race and her husband, Mitchell of Shaftsbury, VT, Kathryn Flower and husband, Michael, of Fort Edward and Susan Delaney and husband, Brian, of Hudson Falls; several loving grandchildren and great grandchildren: a brother, Robert Cronquist and his wife, Janet, of Port Clinton, Ohio; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Family and friends may call Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Carleton Funeral Home Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Funeral services will follow the calling hours on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

A graveside service will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, August 4, 2017 at Pine View Cemetery in the town of Queensbury.

The family suggests that memorial donations be made to Haynes House of Hope, 7187 State Route 149, Granville 12832.

Brenda J. (Dow) Quartiers

Quartiers, BrendaFORT EDWARD – Brenda Joanne (Dow) Quartiers, 66 of Fort Edward, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2017, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on February 15, 1951, in Newburyport, MA, she was the daughter of the late Homer and Vera (Chase) Dow.

On September 8, 1968, she married Joseph S. Quartiers in Amesbury, MA. They have been married 49 happy, wonderful years.

Brenda devoted her life to taking care of her family.  She enjoyed word search puzzles, trying her luck at casino slot machines and bowling.

Besides her parents, Brenda was predeceased by her brother, George Dow.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph S. Quartiers of Fort Edward; her sons, Joseph C. Quartiers of Argyle, Richard M. Quartiers of Marina, CA and Robert S. Quartiers and his wife, Laura of Santa Rosa, CA; her sister, Donna Ford and her husband, Roger of Portsmouth, NH; her grandchildren, Logan, Nathan, Kayla and Malia; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on Friday from 12 to 2 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Funeral services will follow the calling hours on Friday at 2:00 PM at the funeral home, with the Rev. Thomas Babiuch, officiating.

The Rite of Committal will follow at Moss Street Cemetery in the town of Kingsbury.

The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Betty (Williams) Cross Iwaniec

Iwaniec, BettyHUDSON FALLS – Betty (Williams) Cross Iwaniec, 86, of Devine Drive, passed away on July 26, 2017, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on August 22, 1930 in Granville, she was the daughter of the late Augustus Trevor and Dorothy Barbara (Kendall) Williams.

Betty graduated from Hartford High School and in 1989, at the age of 58, she graduated Cum Laude from Hudson Valley Community College in Troy with a diploma in Early Childhood Development and a certificate from Clown School.

During her life, Betty worked in the household department at Montgomery Ward, Scott Paper Company in Fort Edward and at the Glens Falls Hospital, as a unit clerk.

Betty enjoyed traveling and took a camping trip with her brother across the country.  She was a very talented oil painter, loved creating, and always had a puzzle on her table.  Betty was an avid flower and vegetable gardener.  She also loved walking and just being outdoors.  At age 70, Betty went skydiving with her daughter Katy.  To the children in her family and the neighborhood, she was known as Nana Betty.

She had a wonderful, lively personality that was loved and enjoyed by everyone she met. Betty lived life to its fullest and never hesitated trying a new adventure. She was always young at heart.  Betty’s family and close friends were held dearly in her every thought.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Trevor Williams (Josie), her sister, Edith Smith (Walter) and her son in law, Peter Seebald.

Survivors include her husband, John Iwaniec of Hudson Falls; her six children, Ronald L. Cross of Hudson Falls, Susan J. Seebald of Queensbury, Jerrold Peter Cross (Cindy) of Hudson Falls, Nancy L. Cross (Tony) of Fort Bragg, CA, Dana E. Cross (Gianna) of Argyle, Kathryn I. Crandall Kernersville, NC; her 20 grandchildren, that she cherished; 16 great grandchildren; her brother, Kenneth Williams (Bunny) of Lady Lake, FL; her sister, Dorothy Thomas;   Many nieces, nephews and cousins; and her extended family, Peggy Hatch (Bob) of Gansevoort and Christopher Crandall of Lake George.

Friends are invited to celebrate Betty’s life Saturday, from 11 to 2 pm at the Elks Lodge on Cronin Road in Queensbury.

Memorials in Betty’s name may be made to the Fort Edward Rescue Squad, Inc., P. O. Box 226, Hudson Falls, NY 12839.

Betty’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the Glens Falls Hospital, Tower 6 for all their care and compassion given to Betty and her family.

Aniston Fenway Monroe

Aniston7SOUTH GLENS FALLS – Aniston Fenway Monroe, infant daughter of Todd and Rochelle Monroe, got her angel wings on Monday, July 17, 2017, at birth at Albany Medical Center.

Aniston was predeceased by her paternal grandmother, Linda Monroe and her maternal great grandmother, Donna White.

She is survived by her parents, Todd and Rochelle (White) Monroe of South Glens Falls; her siblings, Josh Monroe and his finance, Triana, Jessica Monroe, Jake Monroe, Boston White, Preston Ryerson and Aniston’s twin brother, Carter Monroe; her paternal grandfather, Jim Monroe; her maternal great grandparents, Emory and Gloria Calhoun.

Friends may call on Thursday, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St. in Hudson Falls.

Earl J. Bishop (Papa)

Image0235KINGSBURY – Earl J. Bishop (Papa), 84, of Kingsbury, passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.

Born on February 2, 1933, in Hartford, he was the son of the late Wallace Sr., and Jennie (Patten) Bishop.

Earl attended Hartford School, where he was active in basketball and baseball with his buddy Bobby Wilkins, until leaving to help his father on the family farm.

He was united in marriage to Joyce Spring on July 11, 1954. They shared 62 years together.

From years of work on the family farm, to helping others on their farms, Earl devoted his life to farming. He also owned and operated the Family Meat Market.  Earl enjoyed an occasional cold drink at the Wayside Inn with his good friend Paul Collins.

His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family. Earl spent many summers, as captain of the pontoon on Hadlock Pond.  He also enjoyed spending time with the Patten Family at Camp Goodnow Flow in Newcomb.  Earl and Joyce devoted their lives to their kids and grandchildren.  The grandchildren never heard the word, NO.  He also enjoyed taking the grandchildren to the track for their two-dollar bets.  Earl rescued an injured Appaloosa and nursed him back to health, Lightning soon became the family pet and for many years brought joy to everyone. In later years, Earl also loved sitting in his chair and watching the birds with a bowl of ice cream.

In addition to his parents, Earl was predeceased by his loving wife of 62 years Joyce (Nana) Bishop, and his two brothers Wallace Bishop Jr., and Edward Bishop.

Survivors include, his daughter, Dawn Fiorillo and her husband, Stephen of Hudson Falls; his son, Robert Bishop and his wife, Debbie of Queensbury; his wonderful grandchildren include, Christina Fiorillo, Jessica Brilyea and her husband, Donald, Colton Bishop and Hannah Bishop; He was looking forward to meeting his special bundle of joy, his great-grandchild Noah Earl, due in December. As well as several nieces, nephews and cousins, and an amazing Aunt Betty Lucci. Earl also was lucky enough to have many great friends to the end including his lifelong best friend, Rae Campbell.

Friends are invited to call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc. located at 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

A burial service will take place at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward following the funeral services.

Caroline (Inglee) Hagan

Hagan, Caroline1HUDSON FALLS– Caroline (Inglee) Hagan, 84, born and raised in Hudson Falls and residing in both South Glens Falls and West Monroe for most of her life.  She went into the arms of our good Lord, on Wednesday, July 19, 2017.

Born on March 2, 1933, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin F. and Madeline (Belden) Inglee.

After graduating from Hudson Falls High School in 1950, Caroline continued her education at St. Mary’s  School of Nursing in Amsterdam.   Upon graduation, she began a career in nursing at the Glens Falls Hospital, until the birth of her first child.

On April 10. 1955, Easter Sunday, she married Frederick Hagan at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Hudson Falls.

Caroline put her nursing career on hold to raise her wonderful family of eight children, for which she felt blessed.    She was a caregiver in all aspects of her life.  Caroline was the most loving and beautiful wife, mother and grandmother, always putting her family’s needs first.

Besides centering her life around her beautiful family, her faith was also very important to her.

In addition to her parents she is predeceased by a brother, Bruce Inglee, her sisters, Diane Cronin and Dale Palmer, a son in law, Alan Bahr and her great grandson, Donovan Hagan.

Donald A. Nevens

Nevens, DonaldKINGSBURY – Donald A. Nevens, 90, of Kingsbury, passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2017, at the Glens Falls Hospital with his daughters by his side.

Born on August 5, 1926, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Dr. Milton and Nellie (Mason) Nevens.

During his days at Glens Falls High School, Donald was a star athlete in both football and basketball.  Don was a starting shooting guard  for the Indians championship  basketball team in 1943 and 1944.

At the age of seventeen, Donald left high school to enlist in the United States Navy during World War II.  He served aboard the USS Chicago for two years. While he was proud to serve his country, he also enjoyed visiting various ports of call.  Years later, he related many stories to his family about his service and travel.

Upon returning home, he re-entered high school, and graduated from Glens Falls High School in 1946.

After  graduation he entered the workforce delivering beer locally.  He was employed by General Electric in 1947 at the Hudson Falls plant. Throughout his 39 years of service with GE, he held several positions.

After his retirement, he and his wife, Barbara, built a house in the country with a barn, so that he could keep horses that he loved to ride.  He spent a great deal of time with his family, allowing him to remain connected with grandchildren and great grandchildren. He truly enjoyed visits and outings with his daughters and friends .

He is predeceased by his wife, Barbara Nevens, and his step-daughter,  Patricia “Tia” Adams.

Donald is survived by his daughters, Donna (Richard) Siaulnski of Kingsbury, Pamela (John) Guyette of Queensbury, and Cynthia (Francis) Hogan of Moreau; his grandchildren, Cheryl (Ron) Grimes, Christopher Siaulnski, Kevin Guyette, Nicole Guyette, Meghan (Kurt) Theis, and Caitlin (Scott) Morgan; his great grandchildren, Tyler Jenkins, Lauren Siaulnski, Jenna Siaulnski, Emma Guyette, Callum Guyette, Evan Theis, and Henry Theis; his step children,  Pamela Zarb, who called and stayed in touch with Don even after the passing of her mother, Christopher Juckett, and a son-in-law, Robert Adams, who’s visits brightened Don’s days; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family would like to thank Dr. Amy Hogan-Moulton for the wonderful  care she provided  Donald for many years.  Also a special thank you to nurses, Mary and Mary Ann, from Tower 6 at Glens Falls Hospital. These women are a credit to their profession, and we were thankful to have their skills and compassion during Donald’s  final days.

Services will be private.

Alan “Chick” Mallory, Sr.

Mallory. AlanQUEENSBURY – Alan “Chick” Mallory, Sr., 65, of Peachtree Lane, went to be with his wife, Susan, on Sunday, July 16, 2017, at his home.

Born on November 24, 1951, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Roy and Mary (Varnum) Mallory.

Chick graduated from Lake George High School and participated in Warren-Washington County BOCES while attending school.

On June 26, 1971, he married his high school sweetheart, Susan French.  They shared 41 years together until she passed away on January 18, 2013.

Chick was known for being a “Jack of All Trades”.  He worked as maintenance man at Ahlstrom in Glens Falls and MDU in Montana.  Chick also spent time as a roofer and a logger before retiring from Finch Pruyn as a truck driver.

He enjoyed deer hunting in the Adirondacks, ice fishing on Lake George and always had the knack for repairing cars.  Most of all he loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, Susan, he was predeceased by his niece, Rebecca Lynn Mallory.

Chick is survived by his three children, Alan Mallary, Jr. and his wife, Trina of Glens Falls, Timothy Mallory and his wife, Michele of Moreau and Jessica Grasso and her husband, Michael of Arizona; five grandchildren, Breana, Connor and Aedan Mallory , Isabella Grasso and Emaleah Mallory; his siblings, Roy Mallory, Jr. and his wife, Renee of Arizona, Randy Mallory and his wife, Missy of Warrensburg and Pamela Hart and her husband, Dan of Wyoming; his mother in law, Lena French of Queensbury; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and many wonderful friends that Chick considered family.

Friends may call on Sunday, July 23, 2017, from 12 to 2 and 4 to 7 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

A Graveside Service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday at St. Alphonsus Cemetery in the town of Queensbury.

Kathy Lynn Elrick

Elrick, KathySOUTH GLENS FALLS – Kathy Lynn Elrick, 53, of South Glens Falls, passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2017, surrounded by family and friends, at the Glens Falls Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on March 27, 1964, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of Richard and Sharon (Hall) Bapp of Queensbury.

On October 14, 2016, she married R.J. Elrick in Queensbury.

She was a member of the Local 157, employed by Performance Contracting, Inc. at Global Foundries.

Kathy enjoyed tailgating, painting, gardening, entertaining and most of all, spending time with her grandkids and being with family.

She is survived by her husband, R.J. Elrick of South Glens Falls; her parents, Richard and Sharon Bapp of Queensbury; her three children, Kristyn Corey and her Husband, Jordan of South Glens Falls, Sebastian Luciano, Jr., of South Glens Falls and Elizabeth Luciano of South Glens Falls; her four step children, Greg Elrick of South Glens Falls, Carissa Elrick of Rutland, VT, Rebecca Elrick of Rutland VT and Megan Elrick of Rutland, VT; her two grandchildren, Blake Corey of South Glens Falls and Silas Corey of South Glens Falls; her two sisters, Maire Burns and her significant other, Mark Jankowski of West Rutland, VT, Susan Wancewicz and her husband, Phillip of Cedar Park, Texas; her brother, James Bapp of Queensbury; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

John M. Galusha

Galusha john newQUEENSBURY – It is with great sadness that the family of John M. Galusha announce his unexpected passing on Sunday July 2, 2017 at the age of 49.

Born on September 8, 1967, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late George R. and Geneva (Leppard) Galusha.

John was a 1986 graduate of Queensbury High School.

He was a longtime employee of Ray Supply, where he made many friends.

John loved his family and friends and was always looking to make us laugh. He would get on kicks, some of the fondest being his hotdog machine, his homemade bread, homemade pizza and fried food movie night when the kids were younger. He loved music especially old classic rock songs. John had a heart of gold – once emptying his own apartment so his nephew could have furniture –  John would give the shirt off his back to help someone. He was a kind, peaceful and loving person. We all miss him a lot.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Stephen G. Galusha.

John will be lovingly remembered by his son, Joshua M. Galusha of Gansevoort; his sisters, Lynn M. Galusha Dumas of Hudson Falls and Judy A. Ovitt and her husband, Roger Ovitt, Jr. of Gansevoort; his nephews, Matthew B. Dumas, Richard G. Sheerer, and Robert J. Sheerer; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and many lifelong friends.

Clara B. McCarthy

McCarthy, ClaraHUDSON FALLS – Clara B. McCarthy, 95, of John Street, passed away peacefully, after a short illness, at her home, surrounded by her loving family, on Sunday, July 2, 2017.

Born on July 20, 1921, in Port Henry, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Ann (Lane) Breen.

Clara was a graduate of Port Henry High School.

On May 26, 1956, she married James T. McCarthy, at St. Patrick’s Church in Port Henry.  Together they have shared 54 wonderful years together.

Clara had the distinction of standing at the foot of the newly completed Champlain Bridge in 1929 with Franklin D. Roosevelt and standing at the foot of the New Champlain bridge at the 2011 opening, 82 years later.

She enjoyed going on motorcycle rides with her husband and sons, going to the monthly birthday club meetings at the Peppermill and doing yard work.  Clara was known for being an amazing woman, who at the age of 93 years old, was still tending to her lawn and home.  She loved going to her daughter’s sheep farm, solving the morning crossword puzzles and spending a week every year with her family in a lake house in the Adirondacks.  Clara was known for making the best macaroni and cheese in the world.  Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, James. T. McCarthy, who passed away on January 11, 2011, her brother, James Breen, her sister, Ann Oligny and her daughter in law, Melanie McCarthy.

She is survived by her children, Thomas McCarthy and his companion, Donna Russell of Chicopee, Mass, Jeffrey McCarthy of Hartford, Peter McCarthy of Hudson Falls, Christopher McCarthy and his wife, Beth of Hudson Falls and Marianne McCarthy and her husband, Kevin of Charlton, Mass; six grandchildren, Ryan, Brent, Kyle, Nicholas, Aidan and Kierra; her sister, Mary Toomb of the Bronx; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be no calling hours.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 1 p.m. on Friday, at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church on the park in Hudson Falls.

The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

Katherine Stanton

Stanton, KatherineFort Edward – Katherine Harriet (Weaver) Stanton, 96, of Fort Edward, passed away at her home on Saturday, July 1, 2017.

Born January 13, 1921 in East Aurora, she was the daughter of the late Arthur “Glenn” and Lillian Phoebe (Waldron) Weaver.

In 1938, she graduated from Amsterdam High School and then attended Rider University and Albany Business College, graduating in 1940.

Katherine was employed fourteen years as an Executive Secretary and Personnel Records Supervisor during World War II at Mohawk Carpet Mill in Amsterdam.

On July 5, 1947, she married Robert Edward Stanton.  He passed away August 1, 1992, after 45 years of marriage.

Katherine loved spending time with her family, reading and doing needlework.

Besides her parents and husband, Katherine is predeceased by her brother, John Weaver, her dearest cousin, Lillian Bennett, and her daughter in law, Cathy (Rukat) Stanton.

Survivors include her sons, Robert Edward Stanton, Jr. and William James Stanton; her daughter, Elizabeth Ann Stanton; her grandchildren, Joelle Diamond and her husband, Kyle, Benjamin Stanton and his wife, Amie and Nicholas Stanton; her great grandchildren, Shelby Stanton, Griffin Diamond, Raegan Diamond and Evelyn Diamond; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends may call from 12 Noon to 1 p.m. on Monday, July 3, 2017 at Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street, Hudson Falls.

Funeral Services will follow the calling hour at 1 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Derek Hansen, officiating.

Burial will follow at Moss Street Cemetery in the town of Kingsbury.
