Marjorie “Janice” Herrick

HerrickFORT ANN – Marjorie “Janice” Herrick, 89, a long time Fort Ann resident, passed away on Friday April 19, 2013, at the Glens Falls House of Grace on Henry Street in Glens Falls. 

Born on November 3, 1923, in Glace Bay, Cape Bratan, Nova Scotia, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Carl W. and Enna May (Bisansion) Travis. 

In 1929, Janice and her family moved to Fort Ann.  She attended Fort Ann Central Scool and was the valedictorian of the class of 1941.  She continued her education at Good Samaritan Hospital and in 1943 received her nursing degree. 

In that same year, she married James Clayton Herrick at St. Anne’s Church in Fort Ann.  Together they traveled all over the United States during World War II.  Mr. Herrick died March 6, 1976. 

Janice was a long time emergency room nurse at the Glens Falls Hospital. 

Her church was very important to her.  While living in Fort Ann, she was a communicant of St. Anne’s Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister.  More recently, she was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church and was a Eucharistic Minister, a member of the Catholic Daughters and the RICA. 

She is survived by her son and daughters, Judith Horn and her partner Joseph Williams of Ossining, James Herrick and his wife, Corrine of Concord, NH, Joan Gagliardi and her husband, John of Naples, FL, Jahnese Overton and her husband, Emanuel of Orlando, FL and Jean Stoddard and her husband, Jeffrey of Hudson Falls; her grandchildren, Lisa Pinsion and her husband, Mark, Sara Sepyrgiotis  and her husband Alex, Nathaniel Herrick and his wife, Anita, Nicholas Gagliardi, Jessica Martinez, Daniel Stoddard and Andrew Stoddard; and eight  great-grandchildren. 

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., Hudson Falls. 

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at  10 a.m. on Thursday at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church, on the park, in Hudsopn Falls with the Rev. Thomas Babiuch, pastor officiating. 

The Rite of Committal will follow at Fort Ann Cemetery in the town of Fort Ann. 

Janice’s family suggest that memorial donations in her memory be made to House of Grace of the Adirondacks,  33 Henry St., Glens Falls, NY 12801.
