Joan M. Caruso

KINGSBURY – Joan M. (Bardin) Caruso, 88, of Kingsbury, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at the Fort Hudson Health Care Facility in Fort Edward.

Born on January 17, 1930, in South Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Arthur L. and Bernice (Whitford) Bardin.

In 1947, she graduated from Hudson Falls High School and two years later, on July 17, 1949, Joan married the love of her life, Jerry W. Caruso, Sr., at St. Joseph’s Church in Fort Edward.  Jerry passed away on February 8, 2015, after 66 wonderful years.

Along with her husband, she owned and operated Julie’s Delicatessen, Jerry’s Restaurant and Delicatessen, where she was a bookkeeper and the Hawkeye Restaurant, where she was the hostess, all formerly in Lake George.  

Joan was a communicant of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls and a member of the Lake George American Legion Auxiliary Post 374.

Throughout her life, Joan enjoyed tending to her gardens and baking for her family.  She was a loving wife, mother, adoring grandmother and great grandmother and she loved spending time with all of them.  Since the 1950’s, Joan has been an avid Yankee fan and more recently, her favorite player was Derek Jeter.

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her two brothers, Arthur F. Bardin, who died in 1964 and Benjamin K. Bardin, who died in 1966.

Survivors include her children, Jerry W. Caruso, Jr and his wife, Jolene of Kingsbury, Andrew J. Caruso and his wife, Linda of Lake George, Michael S. Caruso and his wife, Maureen of Saratoga Springs and Bernice Waterston and her husband, Jason of Queensbury; her grandchildren, Milo Caruso and his wife, Sarah, Michael Yole and his wife, Allyssa, Ashley Yole and Arielle Maille; her great grandchildren, Audrie Caruso, Zachary Caruso, Alivia Brummagyn, Owen Yole and Evelynn Joan Yole; her sister, Ann Goodrich; her sister in law, Patricia Bardin; and several nieces, nephews,  cousins, step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.

Friends may call on Sunday from 1 to 4 P.M. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 A.M. on Monday, November 12, 2018 at St. Mary’s/ St. Paul’s Church, on the park in Hudson Falls.

The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

The family extends a special thanks to the staff on A Wing at Fort Hudson Health Care Facility for the wonderful care and compassion given to Joan and her family.

    Sorry for your loss. Joan was a large and positive influence in my life. I started busing tables at the Hawkeye when I was in high school and worked summers there through college. She taught me so much about how to combine hard work and while keeping a light heart on a job. I was lucky to have her as a boss.
