Edward “Wally” Walrath

Walrath 2Walrath 1HUDSON FALLS – Edward “Wally” Walrath, 78, of State Route 196, passed away peacefully, on Saturday, September 14, 2013, at his home.

Born on May 22, 1935, in Rome, NY, he was the son of the late John E. and Dorotheoa (Heyne) Walrath.

He was very proud to have served his country in the US Army.  While in the service he was fortunate to have earned his GED.

In 1973, he married Marilyn (Vadnais) Grant.  She passed away on July 24, 2012.

Shortly after serving his country, Ed went to work as a typesetter for the Post Star in Glens Falls.  He loved his job and stayed there for over 30 years, until his retirement.  Ed loved playing chess, he ranked third in the New York State Chess Championship.  At one time, he had over 30 games going at once.  Ed was able to do this by using post cards through the mail.

Besides his parents and his wife, he was predeceased by his brother, John Walrath.

Survivors include his step daughter, Renee Grant of Hudson Falls; his step son, Joel Grant of Hudson Falls; his sister, Elizabeth Walrath of Utica; his brother, Richard Walrath and his wife, Joan of Columbus, Ohio; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be no calling hours or funeral services.
