Marshall C. Stone

GLENS FALLS – Marshall C Stone, 86, of Glens Falls passed away on Friday, March 8, 2019, at his home.

Born April 13, 1932, he was the son of the late Jay C. Stone and Madeline (Clark) Stone Dineen and his stepfather, Jack Dineen.

In 1950, he met Ann Gazzillo and started working for his future father in law in his construction business.

Marshall and his brother, the late Jay E. Stone, enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on Oct. 5, 1952. He was stationed at Smokey Hill AF Base, Salina Kansas.   Marshall was active duty for 4 years followed by two additional years inactive duty.    He also had temporary duty at (upper) Heyford AFB near Oxford England. In 1956, he was honorably discharged.

In 1953, he married Ann Gazzillo.  They were married 65 wonderful years.  He started working at Finch Paper until the early 80’s.  Some might remember him as the part time owner of his Painting business “M.C. Stone and Sons”.  He drove around town in a multi colored retired School Bus resembling the “Partridge Family” Bus. It made a lot of people’s day when they saw him pass by.

Marshall went onto multiple occupations, one being the driver for the Warren County Veterans. During the time he spent with many of the vets, Marshall purchased hats with “God Bless Vets” on them.  He sold over $200 with all of the proceeds going to the Albany VA inpatient vets. He was very proud to have served his Country. He also drove the transit bus for the City of Glens Falls, for many years until his retirement in 2000.

Marshall was a 4th degree Knights of Columbus and a member of the Monsignor Arthur S. Kiffen Counsel. He also was a Grand Knight for one year.

Marshall was well known for his humor.  He loved to make people laugh with his jokes and would make friends instantly. On a warm day, you could always find him smiling on his front porch, saying hello to the people that passed by and offering treats to those who were walking their dogs. He loved being on the porch so much. And on the cooler days you would find him watching his favorite team the NY Yankees. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Marshall was predeceased by his brothers, Ronald Stone, who passed away at the age of 8 years old, and Jay Stone in 2015.

Survivors include his wife, of 65 years, Ann Stone of Glens Falls; his three sons, Stephen Stone and fiancée, Trish of Thief River Falls, MN, Ronald Stone and his partner, Nancy of Greenfield, Massachusetts, Robert Stone of Queensbury; his two daughters, Marsha Stone of Hudson Falls and Melissa Johnson and her husband, Steven of Fort Edward; grandchildren, Brittnee, Breanna, Stephanie, Scotty, Eric, Ian, Shannon and Ashley; ten great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews; also, his special cousin, Peggy Simpson, of Hudson Falls and her family.
