KINGSBURY – Jack F. Springer, Sr., entered into eternal rest on Saturday, October 15, 2016.
Born on February 28, 1925, the son of Frank and Lillian (Cleveland) Springer.
He was a proud Native American, as well as a World War II and Korean War Veteran. Jack was an underwater demolition frogman attached to the 1st Marine Division deployed in the South Pacific. He was a proud and lifelong member of the Marine Corps League. received the Purple Heart, Presidential Unit Citation, 4 Battle Star Asiatic Pacific, World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Award, Navy Expeditionary Medal, Navy Commendation medal for Valor and Combat Device, N.Y.S. Conspicuous Service Cross, Korean Service Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corp Medal.
Jack was known around the area for his many accomplishments, his career included being Sheriff’s Deputy as well as a Sergeant in the Hudson Falls Police Department, where he served as security for Ronald Reagan, while he was in our area. As a steel worker, he helped build the Twin Bridges and was foreman during the building of G. Roswell Earl Towers.
Jack was an avid outdoorsman and a licensed Adirondack hunting guide, for over 50 years. Jack was a Mason for 62 years. He was a Masonic Member first with the Sandy Hill Lodge, then the Glens Falls Lodge and later the Herschel-Argyle Lodge 508 Free and Accepted Masons, totally 62 years. Additionally, was a Shriner for 50 years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 574 for 68 years. Jack was one of the original founders of the Kingsbury Fire Department.
His family were the original owners of Springer Sanitation. Jack and his brother were also proprietors of Central Moving and Storage.
On Saturday Morning, Jack and Helen had a wonderful breakfast with their friends Paul and Marge Durling. He felt better than he had in a long time. And then God called him home.
He was predeceased by his parents, his two sisters: Mildred Barlow and her husband, Loren and Marion Benard and her husband Laurent, brothers: Frank and Fred Springer, his beloved horses, Meagan and Babe, his best friend and dog, Buddy.
Jack is survived by his loving companion of 40 years, Helen Floutin. Helen was the love of his life. He is also survived by his children, daughters Darrel Earl (George), Linda Richardson, and Nancy Parsons and son Jack (Peggy) Springer Jr.; He was Dad to Gary, Ralph (Kim) Melinda and Chris (Tracey) Floutin. As well as 19 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. There are many nieces and nephews as well.
Jack had so many friends, especially Paul and Marge Durling, and his guardian angel, Jimmy Irwin.
Relatives and friends of Jack and Helen are invited to attend a wake on Sunday at Carleton Funeral Home, Inc. located at 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls from 3 to 6 pm.
The Members of the Free and Accepted Masons will meet at 2:45 pm for Masonic Prayers on Sunday.
Services are on Monday, October 24 at 11 am, at the funeral home, and burial is to immediately to follow at Moss Street Cemetery in the town of Kingsbury. Full military Honors will be provided by American Legion Post 574 along with Patriot Guard
Helen and the family would like to thank, Paul Durling, Jimmy Irwin, Claudia Irwin, and their neighbors for their assistance at this devastating time. Jack will be missed by many. He is pain free and at peace now.
