Michael W. Scheidegger

scheideggerHUDSON FALLS – Michael W. Scheidegger,45, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany.

He is survived by his parents; his sister Krista Valla, her husband Wade Valla, and their daughters Grace and Kaitlin; his brother Erik Scheidegger, his wife Connie, and their daughters Taya and Genoa; his three uncles Charles Otto Scheidegger, Richard Scheidegger and his wife Carol, and Robert Scheidegger and his wife Suzanne; his step-grandmother, Maria Voordeckers; as well as numerous cousins.

Born on May 12,1970 at Glens Falls Hospital, he was the first son of William and Trudy(Cleaves) Scheidegger, of Hudson Falls

Michael’s childhood was spent in the kid friendly neighborhood bordering the Hudson Falls High School. He was an active member of Boy Scout Troop 4, where he especially enjoyed camping, hiking, fishing, and rock climbing.  He spent summers camping with his family in the Adirondacks and on Cape Cod.

Michael graduated Hudson Falls High School in 1988. He was a high jumper on the track team, played football and soccer, and was a member of the stage and marching bands.

After high school, he enlisted in the Army and received basic training at Fort Jackson, SC. He attended paratrooper school, earned his wings, and joined the 82no Airborne at Fort Bragg, NC.  He proudly served with the 82no in lraq during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.

He was an avid sports fan, including NASCAR’s Dale Earnhardt Sr., as well as the NY Yankees, NY Giants, and NY Rangers. He also had a passion for cooking, and loved to try new recipes, ingredients, and techniques.  He could always be found in the kitchen at the holidays and family dinners.

Michael loved animals all his life. Over the years his pets included an alligator, several snakes, tarantulas, scorpions, ferrets, chinchillas, rats, exotic fish, and most recently, two Maine Coon kittens. He also rescued and raised animals to be released to the wild, including crows, flying squirrels, and an injured cedar waxwing that lived with the family for many years.

A celebration of Michael’s life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Hudson Falls (on the park) on Saturday, April 23, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. with the rev. Michael Plank, pastor, officiating.

A reception will follow the services at the church hall.

Burial will be held at the convenience of the family at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in the town of Stillwater.

The family would like to thank the staff of the VA Primary Care Clinic in Glens Falls, and the nurses, staff, and doctors of the Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany for their care and concern for Michael.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Hudson Falls Project Lift Fund, 9 River St., Hudson Falls.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., Hudson Falls.

Adeline D. Scheidegger

Scheidegger_bwQUEENSBURY – Adeline D. Scheidegger, 92, a former resident of Queensbury, died on Monday September 8, 2014 at the Fort Hudson Nursing Facility in Fort Edward.

Born on January 31, 1922 in Dayton, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Minnie Holsten.

Adeline graduated from Jamesburg High School in 1939 and was married to Frederick William Scheidegger in 1944. During this period she worked for the war effort on the Wildcat aircraft for Grumman aircraft.

Adeline’s interest included everything from Art to Zoo animals. She was a docent at the Hyde Museum and was very interested in sharing her knowledge of art.

The First Presbyterian Church was a central part of her life for many years. The May tea, church school and many other leadership roles made her feel very rewarded.

Having four sons, she had years spent serving Scouting as Den Mother and other appreciated leadership tasks. There are many boys that are now men that remember her well.

She was also very proud of her cooking and baking for the large family and friends she entertained. Many recipes will be treasured for several years.

Her love of gardening was a strong passion that she never stopped enduring. Adeline loved flowers, especially wild flowers from the various places see visited, the mountains of Colorado, Alaska and Switzerland to name a few. Camping and visiting State and National parks was a lifelong enjoyment.

Her spirit of competition was exercised in the card games she played, bridge and pinochle mostly, she loved a good game!    She played and hosted bridge games until just a few years ago. Watching golf was also a passion in her later years.

Last but not least was her love for animals. Adeline grew up on a farm with many kinds of pets and farm animals. She always treated every creature as it belonged on this earth as much as she.  

She was predeceased by her husband, Fred and seven brothers.

Survivors include one brother, Irving Holsten of Dayton NJ and four sons, William, Charles Otto, Richard and Robert.

The family of William includes his wife, Trudy and their three children, Michael, Krista and her husband, Wade Valla and their children ( Grace and Kaitlin) and Erik and his wife, Connie and their children (Taya and Genoa).

The family of Charles Otto includes four sons, Travis and his wife Amy, and their children (Koen and Greta), Kane and his wife, Paula, Blaine and his wife, Kelly and their children, ( Kade and Dominik) and fourth son, Zuri.

The family of Richard includes his wife, Carol and his son, Chad and his son, Rich and his wife, Jenn and their children (Chase and Evan).

The family of Robert includes his wife, Suzanne and one son, Robbie.

Friends are welcome to celebrate a memorial service at the First Presbyterian Church, Glens Falls, 400 Glens Street, Glens Falls, NY 12801, on Sunday, September 21 at 1 PM.

A private burial will be at the Gerald B.H. Solomon – Saratoga National Cemetery in Stillwater.

The family suggest that memorials in her name be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Glens Falls, 400 Glen Street, Glens Falls, NY 12801
