Marcia V. Sawn

QUEENSBURY – Marcia V. Sawn, mom passed into the arms of the Lord on March 8, 2019, after a short Illness.

She was born on July 30, 1938, in West Rupert, Vermont, the daughter of Martha and Donald Viault.   Marcia attended grade school in the Rupert one room schoolhouse and was a graduate of Washington Academy in Salem.

In 1956, Marcia took a job at the Glens Falls Insurance Co., where she met her future husband, Richard “Dick” Sawn. Mom and Dad settled in Queensbury and raised two children. Mom went into the child care business and spent the next fifty years caring for dozens and dozens of children. Many of them became like a second family to her.

Sunday was her favorite day, as there was church in the morning and then they would travel to West Rupert for Sunday dinner with her grandparents every week. Mom loved Vermont and was a true Vermonter. She was quirky, clever and stubborn. She liked to discuss politics and would rarely admit she had been wrong about anything! Mom also loved music, and often would play her piano and sing with family and friends or crank up the stereo and dance around the living room. She was fun loving, warm and caring.

Dick tragically passed away early in life, and eventually Mom met and married Luman “Lu” Bennett. They spent over twenty blissful years together, until he passed away in 2006. They loved their cats and loved to travel, often traveling throughout New York, New England and Canada on Summer vacations.

Once again Mom was left to renew her life, and she was fortunate to find her special friend, Robert “Bing” Bingham. They also did a lot of traveling and photographing in the Adirondacks and her beloved Vermont. Bing passed away in 2010.

Marcia is predeceased by her father, Donald Viault; her husbands, Richard Sawn and Luman Bennett; and her special friend, Robert Bingham.

She is survived by her mother, Martha Coffin of Sunderland Vt.; her sisters, Bonnie Trout of Sunderland Vt., Denise Legg of Hudson Falls and Dorene Viault of Queensbury; and her brother, Robert “Bobby” Viault of Palm Springs FL; her children, Steven (Dawn) Sawn of Kingsbury, Susan (Brian) Gosselin of Hampton, Kimberly (Paul) Phillips and Michael Bennett; her grandchildren,  Jason Sawn, Casey (Colleen) Wilson, Joshua (Shari) Wilson, Randy Sawn; as well as several cousins, nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.

We would like to thank the staff of the Slate Valley Center in North Granville, for the excellent care they gave mom.

At mom’s request, there will not be any calling hours, and interment will be at the convenience of the family, in the spring.
