HUDSON FALLS – Jane (Jennie) Rymkewicz, of Denis Avenue, passed away Wednesday, December 16, 2015, at the Glens Falls Hospital, with her family at her side.
She was the youngest of five children born to Lithuania/Polish immigrants Anthony Rymkewicz and Johanna Bacewicz Rymkewicz on December 6, 1922 in Lithuania while her parents and her American born siblings were with relatives in the “old country”. Her family made the voyage back to America when she was only six months old, and at the age of twenty-three, she proudly became a naturalized citizen of the United States always holding true to her Lithuanian/Polish heritage and customs.
She grew up on the family’s “County Line” farm which was later acquired by Warren County by eminent domain, now the Warren County Airport. Subsequently, they moved to the family- owned and operated Chestnut Ridge Road Farm in Queensbury but she always said her fondest memories were of her life on the County Line farm.
On September 15, 1945, she married Edward L. Lowell, Sr. at St. Mary’s Church in Glens Falls, New York.
Jane was the true matriarch of her family. She set high standards and expectations for her four children and she could bring any one of them back in line with just a look of disapproval. Her children and grandchildren were of the most importance to her. Frequent family gatherings with an abundance of home cooked food, boisterous story-telling and laughter were her greatest pleasure. She loved to bake, garden and play the horses.
In the 1940’s and 1950’s she worked at Clark Brother’s Glove Factory in Glens Falls. At that time, she also owned and operated a milk route business with her husband. When her youngest son, Danny, started elementary school, she went to work at C.R. Bard Catheter; retiring in 1988.She was a woman, always decades ahead of her times, strong, independent and doing everything on her own terms. She will be missed by her children and grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Jane was predeceased by her infant sister, Lydia; her brothers: Stanley Rymkewicz, Leslie Rymkewicz and Felix Rymkewicz; and her son-in-law, George J. Cooper, Jr.
She is survived by her children, Jo-Ann Morton and her husband Patrick, of Hudson Falls, Phyllis Cooper of Stony Creek, Edward L. Lowell Jr. of Stony Creek, and his companion, Jill Field, and Daniel J. Lowell and his wife, Sharon Harris, of Queensbury; her grandchildren, Patrick H. Morton, III and his wife, Nicki, Lisa A. Morton, Michael J. Morton and his wife, Sheila, Melissa A. Cooper Kugler and her husband Chris, Edward L. Lowell III and his wife Jennifer, Linda Lowell and her fiancé Anthony W. Kubaryk , Daniel J. Lowell, II and Nathaniel Lowell; her great- grandchildren, Zachary Morton, Josh Morton, Dylan Morton, Jesse Morton and Cooper Henke; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. on Tuesday, at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.
Rite of Committal will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.
