GLENS FALLS – Leon Edward “Grandpa Cookie” Jackson, 83, of Glens Falls, passed away after a long illness on Friday, May 3, 2013 at the Pines Healthcare Facility in Glens Falls, with his niece Shannon and his caregiver Krissy by his side.
Born on May 16, 1930, in Shoreham, VT, he was the son of the late Edward and Ruth (Johnson) Jackson.
On October 12, 1962, he married Blanche Sawtell. She passed away on September 18, 2011.
At the age of 13, Leon began working on farms in the Vermont area. When he became of age he then worked at some of the marble quarries in Vermont. Upon moving to this area he worked for Pallets Inc. in Fort Edward and then served as district manager for Oneida Building Services in Glens Falls. Upon retiring, Leon operated the oldest elevator in Glens Falls, located in the Colvin building. He also cleaned for JC Penney and delivered papers for the Post tar for 8years, mainly in the Hudson Falls area.
Leon loved baseball, enjoyed square dancing and watching John Wayne movies with his beloved wife Blanche.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is predeceased by two brothers, James Jackson and Daniel Jackson and a sister, Mary,
He is survived by his step-daughter, Deb Story and her husband, Thomas of Kingsbury; his “adopted granddaughter” who was his caregiver and took him on trips and rides, Krissy Fisher and her husband, Richard and their children, Emma and Jayce of Hudson Falls; a brother, David Jackson of Saratoga; a cousin, Gert Jackson of Middlebury, VT his grandchildren, Dawn Chadwick, Christopher Kingsley and Jeremy P. Kingsley; several great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., Hudson Falls.
Services will follow the calling hours at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Pine View Cemetery in the town of Queensbury.
