Virginia Ann (Dickinson) Austin

FORT EDWARD – Virginia Ann (Dickinson) Austin, 84, went into the arms of the Lord on Sunday, September 15, 2019 at Glens Falls Hospital after a long illness.

Born on March 2, 1935 in Fort Edward, she was the daughter of the late Fredrick and Anna (Thompson) Dickinson.

Virginia attended Hudson Falls High School.

In 1951, she married Walter Austin.

Over the years she was a waitress in many local restaurants.

Some of Virginia’s hobbies include her love for bingo and bowling. She was a warm-hearted person who got along with everyone. She was a giving person, if she had it to give, she would. Virginia was the light of the family, fun loving and happy go lucky.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by three brothers, Kenneth Dickinson, Fredrick Dickinson and Gerald Dickinson; three children, Cindy Otis, Kevin Austin and Sharon Frey.

Survivors include three children, Donald Austin of Fort Edward, Edwin Austin of Tennessee and Deborah LaCourse and her husband, Jim of Vermont; many grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; three sisters, Betty Langer, Dorothy Morehouse and Carol Gibbs; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

As per the family’s request, all services will be private.

Walter N. Austin

AustinFORT EDWARD – Walter N. Austin, 85, of Fort Edward, passed away comfortably at the Glens Falls Hospital, with his family by his side on Tuesday, January 12, 2016, after a long illness.

Born on April 1, 1930 in Schenectady, he was the son of the late Elmer and Florence Austin.

Following graduation from Glens Falls High School, Walter enlisted in the United States Navy.   After his discharge, he married Virginia Dickinson on December 23, 1951 at the Hudson Falls United Methodist Church.

Walter began his working career at Finch and Pruyn, but was employed as an auto mechanic for most of his life.  He worked for many local shops and owned several of his own.

Walter loved being around people and was willing to help anyone in need.   He was an easy going man that got along with everyone he met.  Walter was an avid hunter and fisherman who also enjoyed bowling and making maple syrup.  In his younger years, he loved to dance and play the guitar.

Beside his parents, Walter was predeceased by his daughters, Sharon Austin Frey and Cindy Lou Otis, his son, Kevin Austin and his sister, Ruth Bovee.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Virginia Austin of Fort Edward; his three children, Don Austin of Fort Edward, Edwin Austin and his partner, Diane McLean of Gansevoort and Deborah Ausitn and her fiancé, James LaCourse of East Montpellier, VT; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Saturday from 12 to 1 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Funeral Services will follow the calling hour at 1 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Derek Hansen, pastor of the Hudson Falls United Methodist Church, officiating.

Burial will be at a later date in Moss Street Cemetery.
