Nancy P. Donohue

HUDSON FALLS – Nancy P. Donohue, 91, of Hudson Falls, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at her home, following a long illness, surrounded by her loving family.

Born February 23, 1933, in Appleton, Wisconsin, Nancy was the daughter of the late John and Viola (Henebry) Phillips, Sr.

In 1937, the family moved to Hudson Falls when Nancy was just four years of age. She continued to live out the rest of her life in Hudson Falls. She attended St. Mary’s grade school in Hudson Falls and later graduated in 1950 from St. Mary’s Academy in Glens Falls.

Following graduation, Nancy began working in the insurance industry. Her first job was with Normandin Insurance. She then went on to work for John F. Carey, Inc., Sheenan Agency and eventually retired from Rose & Kiernan, Inc. Nancy dedicated fifty years of service as an insurance agent.

Nancy was an active member and officer for the Glens Falls Area Insurance Women’s Association and the Hudson Falls Business and Professional Woman’s Foundation (BPW). She was also a member of the Red Hat Society group “Classy Lasses” and the Glens Falls Operetta Club where she enjoyed singing in the chorus. While being an usher for the Lake George Opera Festival, Nancy was able to see many operas.

She kept herself busy following retirement. She enjoyed monthly luncheons with fellow classmates from St. Mary’s Academy, the Classy Lasses, and those from the BPW group.

Nancy was famous for her delicious potato salad at family gatherings. No one could make it the way she did. In the mornings, you could always find her doing crossword puzzles. Nancy will always be known for her impeccable sense of style when it came to clothing. She was the greatest at accessorizing her jewelry to match her clothes.

For many years, Nancy hosted the best Christmas Eve parties that were enjoyed by all, especially her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. The greatest loves in Nancy’s life were no doubt her family.

In addition to her parents, Nancy is predeceased by her brother, John (Johnny) Phillips and her son-in-law, Scott Wells.

Left to cherish Nancy’s memory is her son, Michael (Lynn) Donohue of Delmar, her daughters, Kathleen (Michael) Durkee of Queensbury, and Debra Wells of Port Richie, FL; her grandchildren Haley and Sophie Donohue, Laura (David) Wright, Nicholas (Jade) Durkee, Nathan (Katie) Hicks, Timothy (Amber) Hicks, Elise Watz, Abigal Wells, and Brian Wells; her great grandchildren, Jesse, Jacob, Connor, Nolan, Alexander, Amelia, Poppy, and Evelyn; her brother Patrick (Mary) Phillips, her sister, Mary (Douglas) Greene, and her sister-in-law, Carol Yager; and several nieces and nephews. Nancy is also survived by her long-time best friend, Maryann Behan.

Friends may call from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Friday, March 8, 2024, at Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

A funeral service will be held at 6:00 pm immediately following calling hours at the funeral home with Penny Brink officiating.

A committal service will take place in the spring at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Fort Edward at a date to be determined.

Memorial donations may be made in Nancy’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the Open Door Mission, 226 Warren Street, Glens Falls, NY 12801.

    I was sad to read about Nancy’s passing, it certainly brought back many fond childhood memories. My condolences to all of you. May you find comfort and peace in knowing that others are thinking about you.
