HUDSON FALLS – Margaret Rose Murray passed away at her home in Hudson Falls.
Born in Trim, County Meath Ireland, the second of eight children, to Molly and Theodore McKenna, Margaret emigrated to New York in 1956.
Margaret married Mike Murray on October 19, 1957 and together they had five children, Ann Marie Murray Pousatis (Demetrios), Kathleen Murray Mallon (John), Michael Murray (Sharon), Brian Murray (Theresa) and Angela Murray-Gregory (Charlie). Margaret has 11 grandchildren: Brendan Murray (Allison), Sheelagh Pousatis (Jason), Kathleen Leitch (Chris), Conor Mallon, Alannah Pousatis (Brett), Seamus Murray (Janelle), Mairead Murray, Rory Murray (Ashley), Liam Mallon, Diarmuid Gregory, Aidan Gregory, and is great grandmother to James Murray. She loved taking care of them, celebrating holidays, baptisms, first communions, confirmations, weddings, graduations with them and enjoyed everyday moments with her family. She will be missed by her surviving siblings Teddy McKenna, Mike McKenna, Ivan McKenna, Ann Sandford, Theo McKenna, and Larry McKenna, her many nieces and nephews, her neighbors, and her numerous friends. She was predeceased by her sister Miriam Stack.
Margaret and Mike were owners of the local ice cream shop in Hudson Falls, Creamy Delights, for 20 years where Margaret mentored many high school and college students who worked for them. She loved them all and kept up with them, celebrating their life successes. Margaret loved talking to everyone, even if it meant the line got a bit long at Creamy Delights.
She especially enjoyed telling stories of Ireland. Margaret enjoyed writing and was excited when one of her short stories, “Light a Penny Candle” was published. She also wrote a play, “The Wake” that was performed by local theatre companies.
A lifetime member of St. Mary’s Church, Margaret’s name was well known at the church and school, especially while her children were young, serving as a religious education teacher and on other parish ministries.
Friends may call Thursday, October 15, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street, in Hudson Falls.
A private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Margaret’s immediate at St Mary’s/ St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls.
In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made in Margaret’s memory to Open Door Missions, 226 Warren St, Glens Falls, New York 12801 or Catholic Charities, 35 Broad St., Glens Falls, New York 12801.
Your mother sounds like a wonderful woman with a life rich in purpose and loved. May her strength and zest for life comfort you now and always.

Margaret will always be remembered with the fondest thoughts. God rest your soul. Thank you for your kindness and the opportunities that you gave me. You were so busy raising a family, yet looking out for other people like me. I feel that Margaret and Mike have paved a way for me. They were like another set of parents. I am so sorry to hear about Margaret’s passing. I always enjoyed spending time with her when I was a teenager babysitting for the children. She will be missed I’m sure.

We are so saddened by the passing of Aunt Margaret. She and the whole family are in our thoughts and prayers.
A mother, wife, sister, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother – very much the matriarch in Hudson Falls. Aunt Margaret was a strong and giving person, so like her sister Minnie – she loved to talk to people, loved to help people. She would talk about her family and tell us all that her children and grandchildren had been doing, she was so proud of you all. Life in Hudson Falls was always a topic of conversation and her passing will be much felt in the community of which she and the family were such a big part.
Aunt Margaret was a much loved and respected sister, sister-in-law and aunt who was always interested in the family in both Ireland and England. When my parents got married, initially there was no wedding reception, Aunt Margaret and Uncle Mike gave them one. We last saw Aunt Margaret in Ireland at Uncle Mike’s 80th birthday celebration a few years ago and that occasion will always be remembered.

Margaret was such a caring ,kind, and thoughtful person. I have many memories of Margaret through church and creamy delights. I enjoyed her stories about Ireland. We shared a love for children. I had the extreme pleasure of knowing Margaret for several years. I was a provider of healthcare to her and would love when I saw her name on my schedule. She had a gift of story telling. She had a full life and her stories revealed how much she cared and loved her family. She also told me captivating memories of her childhood in Ireland. I will truly miss her.

We just learned of Margo’s passing after a telephone call with my sister Rosemary in Hudson Falls. We are so sorry that you have lost such a wonderful family member and our hearts go out to you at this time.
