John W. Chadwick

GLENS FALLS – John W. Chadwick, Sr., 73, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 5, 2019 at his home.

Born on May 9, 1946 in Whitehall, he was the son of the late Bernard and Myrtle Bingham.

He attended Hudson Falls Public Schools.

At the age of 17, John joined the United States Marines and served in Vietnam.

After his time in the military, John went to work for the New York State Department of Corrections and retired as a Sergeant at Mt. McGregor after 33 years of service.

John enjoyed sports, specifically, the Mets and the Patriots. He had a love for country music. He was a very charitable man and the most important thing to him was his family, especially spending time with his grandkids.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his son, Jason Chadwick; a close and personal friend, Mary Morris; and his beloved dog, Sassy “The Mexican”.

Survivors include his wife, Carrie Chadwick; his brothers, Leonard (Gail) Chadwick and Richard (Penny) Therrian and Danny Therrian; his children, Christine (Allen) Perkins, John (Vicki) Chadwick, Jr., Richard (Amber) Chadwick, Jacqueline Beckwith, Heather Nowicki, Guy (Jen) Chadwick, Nathan (Angelica) Chadwick, Christine (Travis) Baker, Shawn (Paige) Chadwick, Josh Shaw, and David (Sarah) Mattison; twenty two grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 main Street in Hudson Falls.

A Funeral Procession, escorted by the Patriot Guard, will leave Carleton Funeral Home at 12 p.m. on Thursday July 11, 2019 for a 1:30 interment with military honors at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in the town of Stillwater.

The Family wishes to thank Dr. Anthony Petracca for his dedication, especially coming to visit John at home. They would also like to thank Eleda Waite for her care and assistance with John’s breathing therapies. Finally, a special thanks to the Glens Falls Fire Department for their quick response whenever John was in need.

    A man I will dearly miss. He became like a stand in brother. John witnessed my brother, Karl, get killed in Vietnam and gave me comfort in knowing that he never suffered. I just wish I could have seen him once more. I lied him like family.

      Thankyou for your kind words connie he loved u just as much as u loved him it’s hard to beleave dad is gone the only comfort I have is knowing he is in a better place take care of yourself

    Loved this man. Had a great sense of humor and a wonderful chuckle when you needed one. Worked with him at Mt. McGregor Correctional Facility and missed him when he retired. Loved his family and his country, which he considered part of his family. You will be missed and I know I will think of him, as I often do. Many hugs and kisses…..

    To all of John’s family I am truly sorry to hear the news of his passing. He was truly one of the best. We had many of good times at work and after, enjoying a beverage or two. He will be missed by everyone who knew him. We survive by our fond memories of the ones we have lost and I know you all will and I will too.

      Thankyou Jim he was the rock of the family and it’s still not real to me that he is gone thankyou for saying he was one of the best he sure was it’s going to be hard to fill his shoes

      Thank you all who commented on my dads behalf. He was my rock my heart he tought us everything we know but how to live without him .its still so hard n I dont think I will ever get over the loss of our dad thanks again n God bless ..from chrissy his youngest daughter ;(
