The son of George and Arline Greene, he was born on Feb. 26, 1958, in Hempstead, Long Island. The family moved to Fort Ann when he was a young child. He graduated from Fort Ann Central School in 1976 and began a career as a NYS Correction Officer in 1981. Other than his downstate training, he served his entire 27-year career at Mt. McGregor, retiring in 2010.
Most recently, he worked at Saratoga National Golf Club.
In his free time, Jim enjoyed golf and snowmobiling. He was a big NASCAR fan and followed the Detroit Red Wings, his favorite hockey team. He enjoyed organizing the annual Myrtle Beach golf trip with his buddy, Greg Helwig.
A devoted father of his sons, Jimmy Jr. and Jeffrey, he was at every sports practice and every game, and especially enjoyed playing golf with his sons after he retired. He was so proud of his boys and his three grandchildren, who called him Papi.
Jim was predeceased by his parents, his godson, Mychael A. Flint, his brother-in-law, William White and his best friend, his dog Sarah.
Survivors include his two sons, Jimmy and Jeff and Jeff’s fiancé Brittany and their three children, Jaxin, Eastin and Zaydin; his three brothers, William (Korrin) and William’s daughter, Alex; Michael and Daniel (Tracey); his sister, Susan (Ron) Smith and her two sons, Nick and Logan; and many other nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Josh Vance, who was like a third son to him.
Calling hours are Thursday, March 29, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Carleton Funeral Home, 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.
Funeral services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Mychael Flint Memorial Fund, 112 Nicholson Road, Fort Ann, NY 12827.
