Eleanor “Ellie” May Bakay

BakayQUEENSBURY- Eleanor “Ellie” May Bakay, 78, of Aviation Road, passed away peacefully, at her home, on Monday, July 13, 2015, with her loving husband by her side.

Born on January 8, 1937, in Hudson Falls, she was the daughter of the late Chester H. and Eleanor Mabel (Webster) Oddey.

Ellie was a 1954 graduate of Hudson Falls High School.  Following her graduation she furthered her education at Samaritan Hospital Nursing School, graduating in 1957 with her RN Degree.

On May 19, 1962, she married William Bakay.  Together they have shared 53 wonderful years.

Ellie worked for the Glens Falls Hospital as a Registered Nurse until the birth of her children.  She raised two daughters, and then rejoined the workforce.  For over 23 years, she was a school nurse at Queensbury Union Free School, 17 years of which she was the High School Nurse.

Ellie loved dancing and listening to all kinds of music, bowling, ice and roller skating, all with her husband by her side.  She looked forward to taking an annual trip to Wells, Maine.  In her younger years, she enjoyed ceramics.  Throughout her life she was a veracious reader.  When her health didn’t allow her to be as active, she enjoyed watching the birds from her window.  Ellie had a sharp mind and a great memory.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her mother and father in law, George and Cecelia Bakay.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, William Bakay of Queensbury; her daughters, Diane Bakay-Talbot and her husband, Lee of South Glens Falls and Deborah Gordon and her husband, Guy of South Glens Falls; four grandchildren, Ashley Talbot, Samantha Talbot, Bradford Gordon and William Gordon.

A memorial services will be celebrated 11 am on Saturday, July 18, 2015, at The Church of The Messiah in Glens Falls with the Reverend Karl Kuhn, rector, officiating.  Following the services, she will laid to rest in the columbarium in the Church of the Messiah.

Memorial donations may be sent to the Church of the Messiah, 296 Glen St, Glens Falls, NY 12801 or the CR Wood Cancer Center, 102 Park Street, Glens Falls, NY 12801.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.
