Dominick (Mickey) Rosati

SOUTH GLENS FALLS – Dear family and friends,

It is with heavy hearts that we must inform you of the passing of our father, Dominick (Mickey) Rosati on Friday, January 29th, 2021  of natural causes. He was 90 years old and a resident of South Glens Falls.

Dad was born on July 17, 1930 to Dominick and Diana Rosati. He was raised in the Fenimore section of the town of Moreau with his five brothers – Vince, John, Phil, Lou, Fred and three sisters – Minnie, Cookie, and Rosie.

As a child, Dad attended Saint Mary’s School in Hudson Falls and was an altar boy for Monsignor Kiffin. He graduated from Hudson Falls High School in 1949. A year later, he married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Taylor, on September 3, 1950.

After working hard and saving money, Dad decided to build a home for his young family. He completed the house in 7 months, using a house construction book for reference and with the guidance of the professionals at the old Griffin Lumber Company. He would subsequently help three of his brothers to build their homes.

Dad worked several jobs in the early years to support his young family. There were often part-time jobs to go to after a full day at the General Electric plant in Hudson Falls, where he was employed for 38 years. However, first and foremost in his life was his family. When Mom became ill, Dad took an early retirement from GE and dedicated himself fully to her care. She felt safe and secure with him by her side until she passed in 2002. He continued to be dedicated to Mom until his passing, visiting her grave every day the cemetery was open to the public.

Mom and Dad were members and eventually presidents of the Merry Mohicans Square Dance Club, where they made numerous longtime friendships. In addition, Dad was a dedicated communicant and volunteer at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church in South Glens Falls. In his later years, Dad enjoyed attending his ’49ers’ luncheons and GE Quarter Century Club and retiree dinners.

Throughout the years, Dad was never more than a phone call away from his children and grandchildren to help them with all of their projects and dilemmas. Whether it be building a porch on a house or repairing a garage door, he could build or fix anything. If a grandchild called for advice from college or a daughter wanted help with a recipe, they knew Dad / Grandpa/ ‘Grampy’ would have the answer. Weekly family dinners were a tradition, with Dad doing all of the cooking.

Our Dad was known to many in the community as a lifelong friend, a fair boss, a devout Catholic, a loyal brother and uncle, a loving father and Grandpa and ” Mr. Mickey” to a young neighbor. He was a good man and we will sorely miss him.

With sadness,

Karen (Ernie), Lori, Cathy (Ken), Ron (Filomena) and Jacky (Brian),

Heather, Chris, Courtney, and James

Funeral services will be held in the spring at the convenience of the family.

I have so many warm memories of your dad going back 60 years. He was so special to me and he made his home a welcome place to visit. I also remember him for his story telling, his laughter and his warm friendship with my parents. He and my dad worked part-time together and we loved hearing about their funny experiences. He helped my dad with projects large and small when we lived nearby. He was an important and treasured friend to us. He will be sorely missed and forever remembered. Much love to all of you.

Ron and Family, words simply cannot describe the sadness we feel. Mickey was just a super person…Kind hearted, warm, dependable, quick witted—a true friend…We all have extremely fond memories of not only Mickey, but Shirley too as our families grew up together. Personally, and as a testament to Mickey and the profound affect he had on me growing up was whenever your parents came to visit, Mickey would ALWAYS stop in my Gramps den to visit, and not just to chat, but to have engaging conversations with him. I know my grandfather cherished these visits, and as a young boy, I took note of Mickey’s genuine, caring nature. Rest in peace Mick, you will be missed, but will remain in our memories forever.

So sad to hear of Mickey’s passing. Mickey, Shirley, Karen, Lori, Cathy, Ronnie and Jacky, you are all good family friends. My mom and Shirley were high school friends and had stayed friends until the end. Our families grew up together on the same road. Kevin in school with Cathy. Nancy and I went to school with Ronnie. Gosh its been so many years I don’t remember where Jacky fit in with my brothers Scott and Terry. Either way your all in our hearts! Your dad was always so friendly. When on his walks he always stopped to talk. He stopped in often when mom was alive to have a cup of coffee or glass of wine with my mom and catch me up on everyone. He was so proud of all of you. My siblings and I have been sharing memories of Mickey and Shirley that have brought tears, smiles and laughs. My heart goes out to the family. Your dad will be missed but never forgotten!

  12. Terry Chamberlain & Family says:

Rosati Family- Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Your Dad was a great man. Mickey and Shirley were dear friends with our parents and we all have many very fond memories growing up in the neighborhood. Years of fun times were shared and lasting memories were made. I can still vividly picture the four of them decked out in their square dancing outfits that they tremendously enjoyed doing together. Decades later Mickey even made an amazing impression on my daughters when they were just toddlers and went for strolls around the block with my parents and the frequent visits they would have at each others houses. God bless you all. Peace.

We just heard and were stunned. What a great person!
Our families grew up together. Mickey and Shirley were the only adults I was allowed to call by their first names when I was young, and that always gave them a special place in my heart.
As my brother Scott mentioned earlier, Mickey always went out of his way to have a real conversation with our grandfather. I hope he realized how much Gramp and we appreciated that.
Our heartfelt condolences to you all. He will be missed.

  25. George Thurston says:

I was fortunate to know 2 members of the Rosati family. John worked as a toolmaker at GE with me and was well respected by all who knew him. Mickey worked in Production Control,Shipping and Receiving at GE and was highly respected by all his coworkers. You could always count on the Rosati brothers to do more then their share to keep everything functioning smoothly.
I miss them both. The whole Rosati family must be very proud of these two hard working members. My condolences to the whole Rosati family for what has to be a great loss.
