Gary V. Frost

FrostGLENS FALLS – Gary V. Frost, of Glens Falls, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2017.

Born in Kingston, he was the son of the late Vernon and Georganna (Berryann) Frost.

On April 1, 1995, Gary was united in marriage to Tracy Grinnell at the First Presbyterian Church of Glens Falls.

Gary enjoyed canoeing, woodworking, bowling, and he loved his parrot Sami.

Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Tracy Grinnell; his two brothers, Randy Frost and his wife, Vicki and family, and Terry Frost and his partner, LaBree Thomas.

There are no services planned.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Gary’s name may be made out to Crane Mountain Valley Horse Rescue at cmvhr.org, or at 7556 State Route 9, Westport, NY 12993-2802.

Joyce Bishop

Bishop, JoyceKINGSBURY – Joyce Bishop, 83, of Kingsbury, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2017, at her home surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on May 20, 1933, in Harford, she was the daughter of the late Leslie and Irene (Duel) Spring.

Joyce was a graduate of Hartford Central School; Class of 1950.

She was united in marriage to Earl Bishop on July 11, 1954.

Joyce worked for the Glens Falls Insurance Company, the Navy Annex in Virginia, the Washington County Highway Department, she was the Tax Collector for the town of Kingsbury, where she retired after 30 years of dedication.

As a child, Joyce was baptized at the Hartford Baptist Church. Upon moving to Hudson Falls, she was a member of the First Baptist Church since 1967, where she served as a deaconess, and sat on many boards. Joyce also served on the Economic Opportunity Council. She enjoyed her work with Joyce Clary at the church’s thrift shop. Joyce donated to several benefits, her favorite being Craft Kits for disabled veterans, and St. Jude Hospital, which she donated to monthly. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was so proud of them all and loved them so much.

In addition to her parents, Joyce was predeceased by her two brothers, Corporal George Spring, and John Spring.

Survivors include, her husband of 62 years, Earl Bishop of Kingsbury; her daughter, Dawn Fiorillo and her husband, Stephen of Hudson Falls; her son, Robert Bishop and his wife, Debbie of Queensbury; and her grandchildren, Christina Fiorillo, Jessica Brilyea and her husband, Donald, Colton Bishop and Hannah Bishop; and several nieces, nephews and cousins

Friends are invited to call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc. located at 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday at the First Baptist Church of Hudson Falls, with the Rev. Robert McCrory officiating.

A burial service will take place at Union Cemetery, at the family’s convenience, in the spring.

Mary Ellsworth

Ellsworth, Mary

GLENS FALLS – Mary Ellsworth, 88, of Glens Falls, passed away in the comfort of her daughter’s home surrounded by her loving family, on Sunday, March 19, 2017.

Born on November 11, 1928, in Mineville, she was the daughter of the late Rupert and Gwendolyn Miller.

Mary was married to Charles “Ed” Ellsworth, who passed away on January 3, 2012.

She cherished her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and the time she spent with them.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mary was predeceased by her brother, Donald Miller.

Survivors include, her son Gary (Diane) Ellsworth of Naples, FL; her daughter Connie (Rodney) LaRock of Glens Falls; her grandchildren, Matthew (Terri) Ellsworth, Gary (Kate) Ellsworth, Gwendolyn (George) Strong, Rhonda (Flan) Mulvihill; her great grandchildren, Morgan Ellsworth, Justin Ellsworth, Marissa Whiting, Kevin Whiting, Ben Ellsworth, Kaiden Ellsworth, and Spencer Flan Mulvihill; and several nieces, nephews and cousins, including her cousin and dear friend Carolyn Rosselle.

Friends are invited to call from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc. located at 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

A funeral service will take place immediately following calling hours at 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

The burial will be private.

Isabelle “Tootie” Wade

wadeARGYLE – Isabelle Eunice “Tootie” Wade, 86, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother joined her beloved husband Raymond in Heaven on Saturday, March 18, 2017 Tootie passed unexpectedly at home.

She was born on January 20, 1931, in the town of Salem, she was the daughter of the late George and Isabelle (Stewart) Breason and was a life-long resident of Argyle.

Tootie worked for 20 years at the Pleasant Valley Infirmary in Argyle, as a dietary aide.

She loved spending time with her family and friends, truly loved cook outs, going to monthly luncheons at different restaurants with her close relatives. She liked old movies, westerns and soap operas. Tootie also enjoyed listening to her son Brian play in the Rowdy Country Band.

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Raymond Richard “Gabby” Wade. They were married February 20, 1949 and they had 5 children.

She is also predeceased by her brothers George Wayne Breason and his wife Helen, Donald Breason and his wife Joan, and Floyd Breason and his wife Marion, a sister Patricia and her husband, Charles Keys, her nephews, Walter Breason, Jimmy and Michael Breason, her nieces Kathy (Breason) Baker, Jodie Lynn Breason and a granddaughter Valerie Mattison and a cousin Gertrufe Emery.

Left to cherish her memory are Darlene (Tom) Weir of Argyle, Poncho (Marilyn) Wade of Argyle. George Wade of Fort Edward, Bonnie (Lonson) Fish of Fort Edward,  Brian (Wendy) Wade of Argyle; 13 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; her brothers, Stanley “Jobie” (Pat) Breason of Hudson Falls, William “Bill” (Myra)  of Dothan AL, Johnny (Marilyn) Breason of Cambridge; her sister, Gladys(Joseph) McCarty of Fort Edward; her cousins, Marie “Tiny” Moore, Nancy Vanderwerker and Alice Booth.

At Tootie’s request, there will be no calling hours.

Spring burial in South Argyle Cemetery will take place at a time to be announced. A gathering to share memories for all her family and friends will take place at that time.

Julia Strout

StroutGLENS FALLS – Julia Strout, 73, born on March 21, 1944, passed away on March 13, 2017, after a short illness.

Julia was a loving mother and friend who worked for 21 years at CWI in Queensbury.

She had many interests throughout her life.  Some of those interests include bowling, watching soap operas, working on puzzle books and reading Stephen King novels.  Julia also loved to cook out with her family and attend church with her friends.

She was predeceased by her friend, Billy Condon.

Survivors include her four sons, Hurbert Thornton, Jr. of Glens Falls, Dale Thornton and her daughter in law, Linda Monroe of Glens Falls, Dusty Thornton of Utica, Roy Thorton and his wife, Kristen of Lawndale, NC; her daughter, Bunny Thorton and her companion, James Hoyt of Glens Falls.

Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. on Monday at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc, 68 Main St., Hudson Falls.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Ivan Koudla

Koudla (2)Glens Falls – Ivan Koudla, 60 of South Street, passed away on February 25, 2017, as a result of a tractor trailer accident.

Born on January 4, 1957 in Ukraine, he was the son of Maria Koudla and the late Semen Koudla.

Besides his father, Ivan was predeceased by his daughter, Oksana Koudla.

Survivors include his daughters, Oryslava Bolinoska and her husband, Anatoliy and Alexia Olia Santoro and her husband, Christopher; his four granddaughters, Victoria, Khrystyna, Samantha and Stella; his mother, Maria Koudla; his brother, Michael Koudla and his family; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on Saturday, March 18, 2017 from 11 to 12:30 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Funeral Services will follow the calling hours at 12:30 P.M. on Saturday at the funeral home.

Burial will follow at Pine View Cemetery in the town of Queensbury.

Steve A. Krehbiel

KrehbielHUDSON FALLS – Steve A. Krehbiel, 49, of Green Acres Road, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 12, 2017.

Born on December 10, 1967, in Manhattan, he was the son of the late Stanley and Louise Krehbiel.

Steve graduated from high school in New York City, and continued his education at New York University, receiving his Bachelor’s degree in Science.

He loved acting and had the wonderful opportunity to act in the movie, “The World According to Garp”, the television show, “Days of Our Lives” and in different commercials. Steve also enjoyed modeling in New York City. In the early 1990’s he moved to this area to be with his family. After his arrival, here he worked at The Hiland as a wedding coordinator, and continued to do this until recently. Steve also was employed at Six Flags, for the past ten years, as a senior sales manager.

He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Glens Falls Lodge #81, and The Screen Actors Guild. Steve loved to travel to Europe and to the tropics, enjoying the beach and palm trees. His daughter, Skye, was the center of his world. Steve was a wonderful father, always there to help and guide his daughter.

Survivors include, his wonderful daughter, Skye Krehbiel of Hudson Falls; his cousin, Lorraine Birinyi of Hudson Falls; his aunts, Therese Richer and her husband, Bernard of Canada, and Marcelle Legeault and her husband, Renee of Canada; and several other nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends.

There will be no calling hours.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2017, at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls, with the Reverend Thomas Babiuch, officiating.

Joseph B. VanDerwerken, Sr.

VanDerwerken, JosephHUDSON FALLS – Joseph B. VanDerwerken, Sr., 77, of Brenda Drive, passed away peacefully at Glens Falls Hospital, with his family at his side, on Tuesday, March 14, 2017.

Born on December 9, 1939, in Watervliet, he was the son of the late Henry and Mary (Bulson) VanDerwerken.

He received his bachelor’s degree from Rochester Institute of Technology.

On June 1, 1963, he was united in marriage to Maureen Benn in Albany, just prior to his enlistment in the U.S. Army.
Joseph proudly served his county as a corpsman in the Army, stationed in Chinon, France.

Prior to his time in the service, he worked at Albany Medical Center, and upon returning from his deployment, Joseph resumed his career and was promoted to Supervisor of the Central Service Department. While at Albany Medical Center, Joseph was notified by the Dudley Observatory and was asked to sterilize the collection box going up in the Gemini space capsule, which was used to collect atmospheric particles. To do this, he used a new technique using ethylene oxide to perform the sterilization. He was asked to work at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, applying the ethylene oxide technique. Joseph wrote an article on the new technique in sterilizing hospital equipment, which was published in the New England Journal of Medicine. He continued to work with Bassett Hospital until Glens Falls Hospital put on their expansion, and he was asked to design and supervise Central Services. Following his career at Glens Falls Hospital, as Director of Central Services, he began working for Albany BOCES, as a health and safety specialist until his retirement in 2004.

Joseph was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hudson Falls and was also on the Hudson Falls School Board for 13 years. He was a past treasure of the Kingsbury/Hudson Falls Senior Center and was an active member of North Eastern Woodworkers Association. Joseph was proud to have made the woodworking kits for Kingsbury Recreational Summer Craft Program. He was a quiet man, and never boasted about his many accomplishments. He was a devoted father, who taught his sons everything from woodworking to how they lead their lives. He was a craftsman; creating beautiful furniture, doll houses, and he also loved repairing antiques. Joseph enjoyed fishing in the Adirondacks and was an avid photographer, leaving behind many beautiful photos.

In addition to his parents, Joseph was predeceased by his sister, Louise (Elder) Decker; his nephew, Thomas Decker; and his two brothers, Michael and Henry VanDerwerken.

Survivors include, his loving wife of 53 years, Maureen VanDerwerken of Hudson Falls; his two sons, Joseph B. VanDerwerken, Jr., and his wife, Amy of Rochester, and Michael VanDerwerken and his wife, Trisha of Queensbury; his nieces and nephews, Henry VanDerwerken and his wife, Erin, John VanDerwerken, Wendy Hayes and her husband, Chris, Mary Riley and her husband, Peter, David Disonell and his wife, Karen, Dawn Weisburgh and her husband, Phil; his grand-nieces and grand-nephews, Charlie and Connor VanDerwerken, Pamela Riley and her daughter, Olivia, Lynn Riley and her partner, Sheri; his sister-in-law, Elma Disonell and her husband, Joe.

A special thanks to Dr. Ann Corey, and the staff at Hudson Headwaters; the Glens Falls Hospital, Dr. Greg Kelly, Dr. Harry Slatch, Dr. Michael Perrotti, Dr. David Shaffer, Dr. Richard Leach; Saratoga Hospice; and the Fort Edward Rescue Squad for their wonderful care and compassion given to Joseph and his family.

Friends may call on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home with The Reverend Michael Plank, officiating.

A burial with full military honors will follow the service at 1:30 p.m. on Monday at the Gerald B. H. Solomon-Saratoga National Cemetery in Stillwater.

Edna M. Thompson

Thompson, ednaFORT ANN – Edna M. Thompson, 76, formerly of State Route 149, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 11, 2017.

Born on July 5, 1940 in Fort Edward, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Lena (Munger) Colvin, Sr.

On April 19, 1969, Edna married Robert Thompson at the First Baptist Church in Fort Edward.  He passed away on November 14, 1982.

Edna worked as a pre-school teacher and bus driver for Washington County Head Start, retiring after 42 years.  She loved being with all “her” kids.  Each year, Edna made Christmas stockings for each child to take home.  She treasured each moment with the children, singing with them, telling stories and reading wonderful books.

Anyone who was around Edna loved hearing her laugh, a sound that could fill the room.  She was a warm, happy person who also loved to line dance with her friends, go to garage sales and antiquing.  Every summer she and her granddaughter would travel to Whitehall and Vermont for fresh vegetables and fruit.   Edna also loved her dogs and took in many stray cats.

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her two brothers, Leonard Colvin and Frank Colvin, Jr., her son in law, Paul MacMurray and her great granddaughter, Jubilee Hope Saville.

Survivors include her children, Mark Crandall of Fort Ann, Tina Fitzgerald and her husband, Michael of Hudson Falls and Esther MacMurray of Glens Falls; her five grandchildren, Michael Fitzgerald and his significant other, Amber Bolster of Hudson Falls, Kristen Saville and her significant other, Chad Corrigan, Nicole Fitzgerald of Hudson Falls, Angela MacMurray of Glens Falls and Katlyn MacMurray and her fiancé, Gary Brodie of Glens Falls; four great grandchildren, Nicholas Fitzgerald, Raegan Saville, Marlee Saville and Tanner Corrigan; her siblings, Janice Flagg, Betty Cross, James Cross and his wife, Theresa and Melvin Cross.

Friends may call on Thursday, March 16, 2017 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Prayers will follow the calling hours on Thursday at the funeral home.

Barbara Jean “Mam-ma” Harpp

Harpp, BarbaraGLENS FALLS – Barbara Jean “Mam-ma” Harpp, 71 of Glens Falls, went into the arms of the Lord on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on March 15, 1945 in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Sabra (Vanderwarker) Harpp.

Following her graduation from Queensbury High School, Barbara began her working career.  She was most proud of her time as a dietary aide at Eden Park, now known as The Pines, in Glens Falls.   Barbara took her job seriously, making sure all the residents received their proper food.  She also made many life-long friends with the residents and her co-workers.

Barbara enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and reading historical novels, but the center of her life was her grandchildren.  She adored them and they cherished their time spent with her.  Barbara was very proud to have raised her three children on her own while working hard to provide for them.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Eugene Vanderwarker and Ernest Eastman and her sisters, Ernestine Eastman       and Geraldine Coleman.

Those left behind, include her three children, Geraldine Harpp of Saratoga, Michael Harpp and wife, Wendy of Cape Coral, Fl and Jeannine Finke of Glens Falls; her sister, Phyllis Farley and her husband, Chuck of Hudson Falls; five grandchildren, Devon Harpp, Jeremiah Gates, Rebecca Gates, Michael Ure, Jr., and Emily Harpp; two great grandchildren, Colby and Jaxon Thetford; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be no services.

The family wishes to thank the staff at The Pines and the Glens Falls Hospital for the wonderful care and compassion given to Barbara and her family during her illness.

Regina S. Chase

Chase, ReginaHUDSON FALLS – Regina S. Chase, 93, a long-time Parkwood resident, passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2017, at The Orchard Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre in Granville, where she resided for the past two 1/2 years. 

Born on March 3, 1924, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Fred J. and Catherine (Seems) Shepard. 

She graduated from Glens Falls High School and was a member of the class of 1942. 

On September 4, 1948, she married William R. Chase in St. Alphonsus Church in Glens Falls. They shared over 60 years of marriage together until his passing in 2010. 

Regina was a communicant of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls. For many years, she was the soloist for the former St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls and sang at many weddings in that church. She also taught religious education. 

Her enjoyments included singing and all types of music. The greatest joy, was to spend time with her family, her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and her two brothers, Francis and Charles. Regina and her husband, sponsored three Vietnamese women on their Journey to America, Thanh (known as Susan) Thu, and Mai (known as Michelle). 

In addition to her husband and parents, Regina was predeceased by one grandson, Nathan E. Maynard and two brothers, Francis and Charles Shepard. 

Survivors include, three daughters, Sharon Chase of Cossayuna, Darla Ann Maynard and her husband, Richard of South Glens Falls, and Michele Kill Stark and her husband, Tym of Fort Ann; one brother, William Shepard of Hadlock Pond; one sister, Betty Taylor of Queensbury; her granddaughters, Jessica Kill and her companion, Tim of Queensbury, and Ann-Marie Cutter and her husband, Jerry of Fort Ann; one grandson, Timothy Maynard and his wife, Tiffany of South Glens Falls; many great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls. 

A funeral service will be celebrated immediately following calling hours, at 6 p.m. on Friday, at the funeral home. 

The Rite of Committal will take place later in the spring, at St. Paul’s Cemetery in the town of Kingsbury.

Erwin R. Howe

Howe, ErwinFORT EDWARD – Erwin R. Howe, 76, of Fort Edward, passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at the Albany Stratton VA Medical Center.

Born on August 26, 1940, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Leonard and Marjorie (Griffin) Howe.

Erwin proudly served with the U.S. Marine Corps.

He was employed for 32 years at Lehigh Cement in Glens Falls.

Erwin was at one time a member of Pine Knolls Alliance. He enjoyed gardening, travel, dairy farming, antiques, NASCAR, and wrestling. He was active in scouting, and worked with the Toys for Tots Marine Corps Detachment. Erwin did judging for scouts, and worked in the pits of the Washington County Fair.

In addition to his parents, Erwin was predeceased by his granddaughter, Pamela Howe; and his step-daughter, Jennifer Moffitt.

Survivors include his wife, Dellie Howe of Fort Edward; his children, Vernon Howe and his wife, Brenda of Fort Edward, Valerie Ingersoll and her husband, Kenneth of Fort Edward, Vickie Hughes and her husband, Chris of Argyle, Van Howe and his wife, Melissa of Gerrardstown, WV, and Amanda Burke and her husband, Darrell of Hudson Falls, Ellen Moffitt of Fort Edward; 17 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his sisters, Patricia Barody of South Glens Falls, and Barbara Whitman of Saratoga; his brother, Allen Howe and his wife, Joan of South Glens Falls; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Eileen (VanDoran) Courville

Courville, EileeenHARTFORD – Eileen (VanDoran) Courville, 69, of Camp A Way, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 25, 2017.

Born on May 21, 1947 in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late James and Jane (Berrigan) VanDoran.

Eileen attended Hudson Falls High School and worked at several jobs throughout her life, retiring from Covidien in Argyle.

In 1990, Eileen was united in marriage to Mark Courville in Hudson Falls.

She was a communicant of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls. Eileen loved reading fiction novels, planting flowers, gardening, playing cards, and her morning Yahtzee games over a cup of coffee. She enjoyed barbeques and camping with her family. Most of all, Eileen loved the fresh air and spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, Eileen was predeceased by her brother, James VanDoran.

Survivors include her husband, Mark Courville of Hartford; her three children, Anthony McIntosh and his life partner, Annie Phillips of Hudson Falls, Andrew McIntosh of Glens Falls, and Todd McIntosh and his wife, Mary of Hampstead, N.C.; her five grandchildren, Ashley Smith and her husband, Leeland, Angela McIntosh, Toni McIntosh, Zachary McIntosh and Hailey McIntosh; three great-grandchildren, Jaylin Santana, Kamrin McIntosh, and Kaiden Collins; her sister, Pat Burch and her husband, Ron of Queensbury; her two brothers, John VanDoran and his wife, Chris of Pulaski, TN, and Philip VanDoran of Glens Falls; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends are invited to call on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc. at 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

A funeral service will be conducted at 4 p.m. on Sunday, following calling hours at the funeral home with the Reverend Thomas Babiuch, officiating.

Rite of Committal will take place in the spring at Union Cemetery in Fort Edward.
