Yvonne (Huntington) Goldsmith Jones

HUDSON FALLS – Yvonne (Huntington) Goldsmith Jones, 84, of Swan Street, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2019, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on August 22, 1934 in Fort Edward, she was the daughter of the late Adoniram J. and Jean (Hoag)Huntington, Sr.

On February 15, 1958, she married William H. Goldsmith in Hudson Falls.   They were married for 39 years before his death on January 29, 1997.

Yvonne married her second husband, Steven R. Jones, on June 2, 2001.

For many years, she was a machine operator in the garment industry.   Yvonne also worked as a seamstress at Periwinkle Children Clothes and Gruber’s Dress Factory, both formerly located in Hudson Falls.  She also enjoyed working at C.B. Sports in Queensbury, where she was supervisor of sewing, bundling and shipping. While she was at Gruber’s Dress Factory, Yvonne was chairlady for the International Ladies Garment Worker’s Union (ILGWU).  She was also, an organizer and business agent for the ILGWU.   In 1974, Yvonne was elected as the first woman recording secretary of the Glens Falls Central Labor Council.

Her faith was central in Yvonne’s life.  She loved attending weekly Mass at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Hudson Falls.

For many years, Yvonne was on a women’s league bowling team and a couple’s league, with her first and second husband.  She was also active in the Hudson Falls-Fort Edward AARP.

Yvonne was well known for her delicious hot dog sauce.  She loved going out to eat with her family and enjoyed taking family cruises to the Caribbean and Alaska.  Yvonne loved spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren and will be greatly missed by them.

She loved doing what she wanted to do, when she wanted to do it!

Besides her parents and first husband, she was predeceased by her infant child, Norman Joseph Goldsmith, her daughter, Marijane Hall and her husband, Henry, her brother, A.J. Huntington, her sister, Patricia Joan Sweet and her husband, Norman and her aunt, Edna Copeland.

Survivors include her husband, Steven R. Jones of Hudson Falls; her son, William M. Goldsmith and his wife, Lisa of Chicago, IL; five grandchildren, Henry “J.R.” Hall, Jr., Angela Hall, Michael Goldsmith, Morgan Goldsmith and Nicholas Goldsmith ; her step-granddaughter, Sally Vachula; her aunt, Jeanette Hoag; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and her sisters in law and brothers in law, Penny and Jack Milici, Barbara Ryan, Rick Jones and Lou Ann Piccirillo and Chris and Craig Willson.

Friends may call on Saturday, April 27, 2019 from 10 AM to 11:30 AM at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St. in Hudson Falls.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12 Noon on Saturday, April 27th at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Catholic Church on the park in Hudson Falls.

The Rite of Committal will follow in Fort Ann Cemetery in the Town of Fort Ann.

The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer Association of NE New York, 4 Pine West Plaza #405, Albany, NY 12205 or St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church, 11 Wall Street, Hudson Falls, NY  12839.
