Anthony F. Simione

SOUTH GLENS FALLS – Anthony F. Simione, born November 1, 1923 and passed away Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at the age of 97.

Tony was the first-born son and third born child of twelve to Carmella and Alberico Simione in Pittsfield, MA.  The family moved to Hudson Falls in 1936 and eventually across the bridge to Fenimore.

In 1942, Tony married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Barbara (Dragon) Simione. They were together 72 wonderful years before her passing.

At the age of 19, Tony joined the United State Army and went to battle in World War II.  When he was asked if he came face to face with an Italian, would he shoot him and he answered, “No.  I would probably go in and have a dish of spaghetti with him.”  In light of his answer, Tony was not sent to Italy.  Instead, Tony was a Sargent leading a group of mean across Europe, dragging a long tom (cannon) under the command of General George Patton, in the Army Artillery Division and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

When Tony returned home from his service, he worked with his father and brothers in the family bakery, “Hudson View Bakery-Simione Brothers”.  They built their own bakery behind the family house in Fenimore in 1945.  The family bakery started in Pittsfield by his father and continued approximately 100 years, where Tony did the delivering until he was 90.  Tony was a very hard worker and always worked two jobs.  After delivering for the family bakery, he would go and work as a waiter in two well-known restaurants, Damico’s in Hudson Falls, for which he worked for 20 years, then to Massie’s in South Glens Falls for 30 years.  Tony was proud of building his own home and he dug the cellar hole by hand, breaking 3 shovels in the process.

Besides his parents, Tony was predeceased by his loving wife, Barbara Simione, who passed on September 7, 2015, a great granddaughter, Abigail Langschultz, who passed on February 26, 2014 and his siblings, Josephine, Dominic, Alfred and Frank.

Together, Tony and Barbara had two children, a son, Anthony L. Simione and a daughter, Rebecca Ann (Simione) Bates.

Left to cherish his memory are his two children, Anthony and Rebecca; his grandchildren, Todd A. Simione and his wife, Mary Jane, Marc A. Simione and Nanette E. Simione and their mother, Elaine Simione; his remaining siblings, Mary, Edith, Rose, Victoria, Diana, Fanny and Michael; his son in law, Donald Bates and grandchildren, Carrie Lynn (Bates) Langschultz and her husband, Ken, great granddaughter, Natalie Langschultz and great grandson, Anthony Langschultz;, grandchildren, Sarah Bates and her husband, Michael Okon and Antoinette (Bates) Seybolt and her husband, Craig; great granddaughter, Madelyn Seybolt and  great grandsons, Owen Anthony and Blake Henry Seybolt.  Also, a lifelong friend, who was like family and caregiver, Rose Knight.

I worked at Massie’s with Tony- he was one of the happiest people I ever met. He told me once That once I get married I should remember that what is mine before the marriage stays mine and what is my husband’s before the marriage is half mine- what a great sense of humor he had!

My name is Tony Simione, Anthony F. Simione’s one and only son. I’m looking for someone who may have worked with my father at Massie’s Rest. or a family who dined regularly at the restaurant and always requested that he wait on them, that might have a PICTURE of my father in his waiter’s outfit.
      Gratefully Appreciated

Hi Anthony, first I am very sorry for the loss of your dad. Noone will ever forget the Simione name around here! If this helps I used to see a picture of your dad on the wall by the front door, before they renovated. Perhaps you already have it hopefully. It was a picture of I think the waiters at the time. I think they all had their pants rolled up! Maybe inquire with the new owner ? God blesd

I’ve known my father in law since I was a little girl. What I remember most is the generous ❤️He had for anyone in need. He never focused on money, but worked very hard to save as much as possible, so he could always be available financially as well as physically with a helping hand for those in need. He left this world wanting others to be happy and to treat each other with love, respect, and kindness. Tony loved a good time for everyone. If we all lived as he did, there would only be peace on this planet. May I live my life the way he did right up until the end Love, Blessings and Peace to you, Elaine
