Elizabeth (Bibsy) (Raff) Nace

NaceQUEENSBURY – Elizabeth “Bibsy” (Raff) Nace, 65, of Queensbury, passed away with her husband and her daughter at her side on Wednesday, August 3, 2016.

Born on June 12, 1951, in Montclair, NJ, she was the daughter of the late John and Dorothy (Dippey) Raff, Jr.

Bibsy was a 1973 graduate of Skidmore College, receiving her BA in Biology and later received her Masters of Education from SUNY Plattsburg.    While at Skidmore, she was President of the outing club, where she met her future husband, who was President of the RPI outing club.  Following her graduation, they were married on April 20, 1974 in Verona, NJ. 

Bibsy was a stay at home mom when her daughter was young.   She also wore many hats in her careers as a secretary, a legal abstractor, a bookkeeper, a riding instructor, a substitute teacher and a teacher’s aide.

She was very active in several organizations, including, ENYDCTA-Eastern New York Dressage and Combine Training Association, where she was twice named Member of the Year.  Bibsy became a member of the organization at its inauguration 30 plus years ago.   She also belonged to the Albany Obedience Club for Dogs, the AAUW – American Association of University Women, and their literary club.  Bibsy was also a member of the Queensbury United Methodist Church.

She loved dog training and showing and, sailing.  She was active in the Lake George Corinthian Yacht Club and was editor of their newsletter for many years.  She enjoyed racing and has won the Lake George Lady’s Cup race and also with her husband, twice won the Lake George Invitational.

Her greatest love was for horses.  She spent many years of her life riding, caring for, and showing horses.  She shared her passion with her daughter, Ella, and they spent many years  together at the barn

Survivors include her husband, Thomas W. Nace of Queensbury; a daughter, Ella (Nace) Wolocki and her husband, Mark of San Antonio, TX; a brother, John L. Raff, III of NJ; her dog, Belle; her cat, Sammy; various nieces, nephews and cousins; and many friends.

Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at the Queensbury United Methodist Church, Aviation Road in Queensbury, with the Rev. Phil Phaneuf, pastor officiating.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
