Arthur R. Rivers, Sr.

Rivers ArthurHUDSON FALLS -Arthur R. Rivers, Sr., 54, of Parry St., after a courageous battle with cancer, he went into the arms of the Lord, with his family by his side on Tuesday, May 17, 2016.

Born on February 3, 1962, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Roland and Geraldine (Brown) Rivers.

On October 20, 1979, he married Tina Winney in Fort Edward.

Art enjoyed hunting and fishing, riding his Harley and helping others.  He was particularly fond of his dogs, Shelby, Princess and Elsa.  Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his beloved grandchildren and was looking forward to the arrival of a new grandson, due in August. He also enjoyed playing pool in his pool league with his son for many years.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Skip Rivers and his sister Angel Rivers.

In addition to his wife of 36 years, Tina Rivers of Hudson Falls; Art is survived by a daughter, Amanda Benson and her husband Brian of Fort Ann;  his sons, Arthur R. Rivers Jr. and his wife, Deidre of Fort Edward and Nathan Benson of Hudson Falls; his grandchildren Jazmin Barrett, Gavin Benson and Skye Benson; his sisters and brothers, Nancy Winney and her husband, Clarence of Hudson Falls, Tammie Rivers and her companion Kevin Whiting of Hudson Falls, Billy Rivers of South Glens Falls, Tina Goodell and her husband, Kevin of Hudson Falls and Duane Rivers and his companion Kristina Preece of Hudson Falls; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., Hudson Falls.

Graveside services will take place 9 a.m. on Saturday, at St. Paul’s Cemetery in the town of Kingsbury.

QUEENSBURY – Arthur J. “Art” Rivers, 74, of Vermont Avenue, went to be with his beloved wife, Shirley, on Sunday, July 7, 2013.

Born on September 20, 1938, in South Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Richard M. and Rose (Butler) Rivers.

Art was a 1957 graduate of South Glens Falls High School and on July 19, 1958, he married the love of his life, Shirley M. Dashnaw.  She passed away in 1993.

For over 30 years, Art worked a job he loved as a welder at Chase Bag in the town of Moreau.  He was an avid bowler with the Ivy League and enjoyed deer hunting in the Catskills with his family Art was also excellent at throwing horseshoes.  He cherished the time he spent with his family camping in Minerva.

Art could play the harmonica by ear, all he needed was to listen to the song and he could play it.  More recently, he enjoyed his Facebook family.  They kept him connected.  Art had a wonderful sense of humor and loved being around people.  Whenever he met someone, he never forgot them and made them feel important.

Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Shirley Rivers and a son, John Rivers, three brothers, LaRoy “Pat” Rivers, Wayne Rivers and David Rivers and his sister, Priscilla Crum.

Survivors include his children, Priscilla Dearborn and her husband, Willie of Corinth, Arthur E. Rivers and his wife, Joan of Fort Edward, Kristine Flores and her husband, Conrad of Texas and Timothy Rivers and his wife, Mary of Florida; 14 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; his brother, Leeward Rivers of South Glens Falls and Harry Rivers and his wife, Addie of South Glens Falls; his sister, Rose Brown and her husband, Gary of Salem and Wanda Maier and her husband, Duane of Texas; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on Thursday, July 11, 2013, from 3 to 7 pm, at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Funeral services will follow at 7 pm on Thursday, at the funeral home.

Burial will be next to his wife, Shirley at Union Cemetery, at a later date, at the convenience of the family.

Rebecca D. Rivers

RRiversHUDSON FALLS – Rebecca D. Rivers, 47, of Hudson Falls, passed away on Friday, May 31, 2013, at her home.

Born on March 30, 1966, in Lake George, she was the daughter of Mary (Lord) Woodard of Fort Edward and the late Gerald Brooks.

Rebecca married Bill Rivers in 1984.

She worked for Joy Store, formerly located in South Glens Falls and Eckerd, formerly located in Hudson Falls.

Her enjoyments included playing bingo and a Mountain Dew every day.

In addition to her father she is also predeceased by a brother, Gerald Brooks, Jr.

Rebecca is survived by her husband of 29 years, Bill Rivers of Hudson Falls; her mother, Mary Woodard of Fort Edward; two sons, Billy Rivers, Jr. and his companion, Brittne of Hudson Falls and Brian Rivers of Hudson Falls; two granddaughters, Autumn Skye Rivers and Delila “Pookie” Rivers; a brother, Michael Morrill and his wife, Lisa of Bloomingburg, NY; a sister Susan Lewis and her husband, Warren of Fort Edward; a brother Scott Brooks and his wife, Leslie of South Glens Falls; and several beloved nieces, nephews, cousins  brothers and sisters in law.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, inc., 68 Main St., Hudson Falls.

The West Fort Ann Fire Department will meet Wednesday evening at 5:45 P.M. at the funeral home to pay their respects.

A funeral service will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday evening (following the calling hours) at the funeral home.

Burial will take place at the convenience of the family.

Joan M. Rivers

RiversGLENS FALLS – Joan Clum Rivers, 78, a longtime Glens Falls resident, passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at the Stanton Healthcare Facility in Queensbury.

Born on August 6, 1934, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late George and Leonora (Fitzpatrick) Clum.

She went to work for the SS Kresge Company in Glens Falls at the age of 17 and remained with them, K-Mart and Super K-Mart for nearly 50 years.  She was promoted to Resident Assistant Manager in the 60’s and had many jobs over the years.

Joan’s favorite past time was playing bingo.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 26 years, Francis Rivers and a sister Linda Clum Dufour who passed away Oct. 19, 2012.

Survivors include her son, Mark D. Rivers of Glens Falls; her twin sister Marion Kohls of Queensbury; a sister, Virginia Boisclair and her husband, Norman of South Glens Falls; her brothers Peter Clum and his wife, Linda of Gansevoort, Thomas Clum and his wife, Terri of Queensbury, David Clum and his wife, Vicki of Florida and Michael Clum and his wife Patti of Hudson Falls; and several nieces and nephews.

There are no calling hours.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Southside Cemetery in the town of Moreau.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Joan’s family would like to thank the staff of East wing and the many friends and staff from all the wings that Joan visited at the Stanton. .  Special thanks also to the Activities Department there for their thoughtfulness to Joan.
