David Ira Goodwin

GoodwinARGYLE – David Ira Goodwin, 66 of Pleasant Valley Road, peacefully went to his heavenly home, surrounded by his loving family and friends on Saturday, February 11, 2017, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on September 26, 1950, in Bangor, Maine, he was the son of the late Janice R. Hodgdon.

David graduated from Herman High School in Maine, and he continued his education at the University of Maine – GO BEARS! After graduation, he was drafted in the U.S. Navy. David proudly served his country for 22 years. Some of his duty stations included: USS John F. Kennedy, USS Sierra, USS Kamehameha, USS Snook, and USS Will Rogers, where he retired from on January 31, 1992. His war time tours included Vietnam, Operation Desert Shield, Operation Desert Storm, and Persian Gulf.   David also worked for his close personal friend, Roger Jennings in South Glens Falls, as a plant manager.

On December 15, 1973, David was united in marriage to Darlene Sartwell in South Glens Falls.

David was a member of the American Legion, and the Disabled American Veterans. He also was a Girl Scout Leader, and a little league coach, where he was proudly remembered for almost taking the team to The States. David made beautiful black walnut handmade necklaces that are cherished by his family and friends. He enjoyed tinkering in his shop and restoring a 1974 Volkswagen Beetle. He loved routing for the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox, his favorite teams. He also had a great passion for his fur babies, Willow Brooke, Red Sox, Lucy and Sir Prince Bear Pup Pup.  David truly had a zest for life!

In addition to his mother, David was predeceased by his grandparents; his sister, Cheryl Goodwin; his brother, Forest Ira Goodwin “Little Pat;” and his brother-in-law, Greg Gagnon.

Survivors include his loving wife of 43 years, Darlene Goodwin “his honey bun” of Argyle; his daughter, Heather Viele and her children, Zachary Viele and his fiancée, Kayla Daigle, and Alexandra Viele, and his great granddaughter, Penelope; his son, Mark Goodwin and his wife, Kaitlin, and their children, Daniel, Maggie and Jude Goodwin; his daughter Hillary; Goodwin and her fiancée, Joe Blackmer and their child, Tyson Blackmer; and his son, Daniel Huestis and his wife, Jennifer; his siblings, Larry Goodwin, and his wife, Donna, Terry Colvin and his wife, Sue, Karen Gagnon, Naomi “Peanut” Ball; his special family friend, Heidi Rodriguez and her husband, Jay; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on Thursday, February 16, 2017 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

People are invited to dress in flannels, jeans, and tie-dyed shirts for calling hours per David’s wishes.

Friends are invited to celebrate David’s life at Sue and Terry Colvin’s house on Hobbs Lane in Fort Edward, following the calling hours.

Burial with military honors at Union Cemetery will take place in the spring.
