Francis R. Carey

KINGSBURY – Francis R. Carey, 70 of Kingsbury, passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2013, at the Stanton in Queensbury.

Born on April 8, 1942 in Albany, he was the only child of the late Helen and Francis E Carey.

He graduated from Albany High School in 1960 and went on to graduate from Siena College in 1965, with a bachelor’s in sociology. After graduating from college, Frank worked for a short time at St. Anne’s Institute.  He was a parole officer, first doing field visits and later in the interstate division.  Along the way, Frank became an active member of the Fort Hunter Volunteer Fire Department.  He was elected commissioner for several years, and remained an active firefighter and fire police for 20 years.  After retiring, Frank studied for his technician’s license for amateur radio; the first official Carey ‘ham’.

Frank also was active in various church groups.  He never wavered in his faith and love, not only for God, but also his wife and family.  To the end, he loved family visits.  He would often tell tall tales to make us laugh; corny jokes were another specialty. He had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. He was always there with a smile, a shoulder, an encouraging word. He will be missed.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sally Nesbitt Carey, their two children, David Carey and his wife, Michele and Judy Carey Nevin and her husband, Mark;  four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Memorial services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 21, 2013, at Christ Church United Methodist in Glens Falls, with Pastor Philip Richards, officiating.

Francis’ family has asked that memorial donations in his memory be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Northeast Chapter, 4 Pine West Plaza #405  Albany, NY 12205
