Joseph F. Campbell

HUDSON FALLS – Joseph F. Campbell, 97, of Hudson Falls, NY and Naples, Fl., peacefully passed away at his home on Wednesday, May 1, 2019, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on April 25, 1922, he was the son of the late Joseph F. and Matilda (Pidgeon) Campbell.

Joseph was a graduate of Bentley College, Class of 1942, in Boston.

After college, Joe served his country from 1942 – 1946, in the Army’s 337th Signal Corps Troop Carrier Wing Company, achieving the rank of Sergeant.

On September 4, 1954, he married Margaret West of North Creek, NY.  They shared 64 wonderfully blessed years together.

Upon returning home, Joe began his career at Sandy Hill Iron and Brass for the next 41 years.  He held various positions at Sandy Hill and retired in 1987 as Treasurer-Secretary.

Family was always the focus of their life.  Joe and Marge enjoyed the Adirondacks, they were avid skiers, campers, boaters and square dancers.  He and Marge shared an amazing 32 years of retirement, filled with one adventure to another, including 10 weeks touring Alaska.  Joe lived life to the fullest, his heart was always filled with love, harmony and inspiration from his best friend Marge. 

Joe was a member of the Advisory Board of the Glens Falls National Bank and Trust Co. He served as director and treasurer of the Lake Champlain Cancer Research Organization, Inc, since its establishment in 1978, at the University of Vermont.  Joe contributed to the Hudson Falls community as past director of the Hudson Falls Chamber of Commerce, he was a member of the Mohegan Council of Boy Scouts and a communicant of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his infant daughter, Theresa and infant grandson, Nicholas.

Joe is survived by his wife of 64 years, Margaret (West) Campbell; his daughter who resides in Glastonbury, CT Kathy Campbell & Jack Foster and their children Ashley & Ryan Bradley with son Tristan; Joseph Foster and John Foster: his daughter who resides in Burlington, CT Karen & Andy Selinger and their children Elise Selinger, Daniel Selinger and Scott Selinger: his son who resides in Amherst NH, Michael & Anna Marie Campbell and their children, Alyssa Campbell, Tom Campbell & his finance Chelsey Canavan and David & Aimee Campbell: his son who resides in Queensbury, NY Jon & Rhenda Campbell and their children Justine & Nick Ameden with daughters Everyn & Adalia, Samantha & Larry Hill, Gabe & Katie Campbell, Neal & Katie Campbell with daughter Lilah, and Margaret Campbell.  Joe is also survived by his beloved nieces and nephews, Patricia, Margaret Ann, Irene, Barbara, Nancy, Kevin, Dave, Jeff, Mark, Peter and Joe.

Calling hours will be on Friday, May 3, 2019, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

His Funeral Mass will be Celebrated 11 a.m. on Saturday, at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church on the Park in Hudson Falls.

The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

Joe’s family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to Dr. Amy Hogan-Moulton for her compassion and professional expertise in providing extra ordinary care for many years.   Also, much thanks to the Fort Hudson Home Care team, especially Andrew Delsignore.
