QUEENSBURY – Audrey Elizabeth Stanley Lyons, Age 87 of Queensbury, passed away early Tuesday morning, March 12, 2024 at Fort Hudson Nursing Home in Fort Edward. Born on December 27, 1936 in Saratoga Springs, NY, she was the daughter of the late Edward C. Stanley and Bertha E. (Dalaba) Hall.

On December 11, 1954 she married Richard C. Lyons at Christ Church United Methodist in Glens Falls and they enjoyed 63 years together. Richard passed away on February 12, 2017.

Audrey enjoyed the simple things in life, such as taking rides in the country and having a chocolate milkshake. In her younger years, she was also a very talented free-hand artist. Most of all, Audrey loved her pet dogs and treated them like family.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she is predeceased by her step-father, Clarence W. Hall’ her sisters, Hilda Stanley McKinney and Shirley Stanley Yole; brothers-in-law, Donald A. McKinney and Robert A. Yole, Sr.; her brothers, Donald E. Stanley, Gary W. Hall, and David N. Hall.

She is survived by two brothers, Daniel L. Hall (Sharon) of Glens Falls, and Dennis L. Hall (Janet) of Matthews, NC; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff and nurses at Fort Hudson Nursing Home for the exceptional care given to Audrey, as well as a huge thank you to Carla Armstrong for helping Audrey and her family get through this difficult time.

A private burial will be held at a later date in Southside Cemetery in South Glens Falls, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband.

FORT EDWARD – John M. (Jack) Jones, 94, of Fort Edward, NY, passed away peacefully on March 10^th, 2024.  Jack was born on March 19^th, 1929 to John M. and Lena Kemmer Jones in Albany, NY.  Jack graduated from Albany High School in 1947.  He returned to school as an adult learner and graduated from Empire State College in 1997 with a degree in Commercial Studies and a concentration in Accounting.  His work history included salesmen at Tobin Meat Packing Company for 25 years, and then 20 years of service with the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance as an auditor, tax technician and mediator.

Jack married Dorothy Elizabeth Griner on October 31^st, 1948 at St. Joseph’s Church in Albany, NY.  Dot passed away on October 17^th, 1996 after battling a long illness.  Jack fell in love again and married Patricia Marden Farnsworth on July 19^th, 1997 at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls, NY.  After 12 fun filled years, Patricia passed away on July 13^th, 2009.

Jack was a man of service and entertaining!  He was a former usher, lector, and choir member of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church, Former Literacy of America volunteer, former treasure and manager of the Hudson Falls Little League, and former member of Carpenter Hose Co. (Now Hudson Falls Volunteer Fire Co.).  Jack and Pat entertained at various nursing homes throughout the area and he was also a member of the Fort Edward Minstrels.  Jack loved Barbershop singing and participated in The Racing City Chorus, Uncle Sam Chorus and The Joyous Sound Gospel Chorus.  He also sang in several quartets including: US 4, Chordamatics, Keenagers, and In The Spirit.  An avid sports fan, Jack was a former member of Tee-Bird and Pole Valley.  Jack loyally supported his New York Yankees and New York Giants and loved attending any game his grandchildren or great-grandchildren were participating in.

He was pre-deceased by his parents, sister, Jean Hammont, first wife, Dorothy, then second wife, Patricia, son, Robert J. Jones, step-son, Brent Farnsworth, and son-in-law, Frank McAdam.  He is survived by his brother, William Jones and his wife Betty, daughter Carol Long and her husband Ronald, son Richard Risman-Jones and his wife Heidi, step-daughter, Brenda McAdam, daughter-in-law, Nancy Jones, daughter-in-law, Rene Farnsworth, 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Friends may call from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Thursday March 14, 2024 at Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, March 15, 2024 at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Catholic Church, on the park in Hudson Falls, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.

Burial will be at a later date in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Fort Edward.

The family would like to acknowledge the enduring loving care and support of Diane Leone and also each and every staff member on Tower 2 at Glens Falls Hospital.

SOUTH GLENS FALLS – Zenas “Peanut” Dickinson, 77 of South Glens Falls, passed away Saturday morning, March 9, 2024 at Glens Falls Hospital. Peanut battled cancer for years and ultimately passed after a very brief illness.

Born on November 10, 1946 in Belcher, NY, he was a life-long area resident and son of the late Ernest and Luella (Mallory) Dickinson. Peanut left school at the age of 17 and enlisted in the United States Army in 1963. He served his country during the Vietnam War until being honorably discharged in 1966. On August 5, 1967, he married the former Marjorie Hunt in South Glens Falls and the couple has resided there ever since.

Peanut worked hard his entire life, first at United Boar d and Carton in Clarks Mill until it closed and he found work at the Post Star as a printer. He then went to work as a mechanic at Whiteman Chevrolet, then went on to Brownell Lumber Company in Edinburg, Fort William Henry Hotel and more recently, the 99 restaurant. Peanut spent 22 plus years as a cook at Pat Russo’s Dugout in South Glens Falls and became very close to the Russo family.

He had great community pride, serving in several fire departments over the years including South Queensbury Volunteer Fire Department, South Glens Falls Fire Company, where he served as the Fire Police Captain, Edinburg Fire Volunteer Fire Company, and Moreau Emergency Corp.

Peanut enjoyed the outdoors and loved hunting and fishing with his sons, searching the ground with a metal detector, camping, going to garage sales, and most of all spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by eight brothers, William, Patrick, Ernest “Bud”, Thomas Sr, Robert, Michael, Timothy Sr, and John; and a sister, Diane Vanderwalker; his mother in law and father in law, Margaret and Henry Hunt; brother in law, Michael Hunt; and sister in law, Donna Manchester.

He is survived by his wife of almost 57 years, Marjorie Dickinson; three sons, Kevin Dickinson and his wife, Patricia, Keith Dickinson and his wife, Sandy, and Kenneth Dickinson; his brothers and sisters, Sandra Briylea, Anita Clute and her husband, Larry, Virginia Kays and her husband, Joe, Rose Vanderwerker, Louise “Gidget” Staunches, Philip Dickinson and his wife, Karen, Douglas Dickinson and his wife, Terry, and Mark Dickinson and his wife, Sharron; several grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and many, many nieces and nephews, including his very special niece, Aryonna Jarvis; sister in law, Pearl Jarvis; and brothers in law, Jack Hunt, and Robert Hunt and his wife, Sharron.

A funeral service will be held at 11:30 am on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery on Duell Road in Schuylerville.

HUDSON FALLS – Larry Steele, 71 of Hudson Falls, passed away Tuesday afternoon, March 5, 2024 at 4:51 pm, at his own home and on his own terms, surrounded by his family.

Born on March 29, 1952 in Glens Falls, he was a life-long resident of Hudson Falls and son of the late Robert and Josephine Steele.

Larry worked at General Electric Company for many years as a commercial pilot. After he retired, he acted on his love of the outdoors and started a small dairy farm where he enjoyed tending to his livestock and working his land. Larry also loved and respected all of the local wildlife and liked to watch the birds on his property. He enjoyed time spent with family, especially watching movies with his grandson.

Larry is survived by his daughter, Juliet Steele; his grandson, Logan Applin; his brothers, Bobby and Peter; sisters, Joann and Diane; and many nieces and nephews.

MOREAU – Daniel A. Brouillette, 71 of Moreau, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at the Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany after a long illness.

Born on May 24, 1952 in Glens Falls, he was a life long area resident and son of the late Armand and Lorraine (Dubee) Brouillette. Daniel grew up in Glens Falls and attended Glens Falls Schools. On June 30, 1969, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp, serving his country from 1970 to 1971 in Vietnam before being honorably discharged.

On November 20, 1971, he married the love of his life, Debra J. Lewis at St. Alphonsus Church in Glens Falls. Daniel worked as a roll finisher at Finch Pruyn, Co until his retirement after 30 years of dedicated service to the company.

Daniel and Deb enjoyed traveling together to places such as California, Alaska, and Ireland. He enjoyed movies and followed Star Trek, as well as listening to music, especially The Beach Boys. Daniel loved his Pugs, Cooper and Chloe, who have passed away and was always with his Shizu, Oreo, who was his best buddy. Most of all, Daniel enjoyed being with family.  

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by a sister, Donna Beames.

Daniel is survived by his wife, Debra Brouillette; his children, Daniel S. Brouillette (Tina), Benjamin A. Brouillette (Tanya), and Randy A. Brouillette; his grandchildren, Sabrina, Jacob, Benjamin, Allison, Tammie, and Andromeda; his brother, James Brouillette; and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville. There are no public calling hours.

The family would like to thank the staff and doctors on Unit 4A at the Stratton VA Hospital in Albany for their care and support throughout this difficult time.

HUDSON FALLS – Lena B. Wells, 91, of Hudson Falls, went into the arms of the Lord on Friday, March 1, 2024, at Washington Center in Argyle.

Born on June 2, 1932, in New Brunswick, Canada. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Rose (Levesque) LaPlante. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church.

Lena was known for being a nurturer, who loved babies and was the best cook ever. Her family and friends looked forward to tasting her meals. She also enjoyed Bingo, going to the Casino, and watching the Cowboys play. The center of her life was her family, her church, and God.

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by several of her brothers and sisters in Canada and grandson, Todd Allison.

She is survived by her 10 children; Norman Ouellete, Steven Ouelette, Michael Ouellette, Arthur (Wendy) Wells, Michelle Allison, Gary (Jennifer) Wells, Leonard Wells, William Wells, Beatrice (Michael) Greenough, and Karen (Frank) Wells; 19 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; her sister, Yvette Nadeau; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Calling hours will be on Monday, March 11, 2024, from 4pm to 8 pm at Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

A funeral service will take place on Monday, March 11, 2024, at 8pm immediately following calling hours with Pastor Tracey Mauran officiating.

The Rite of Committal will take place in the Spring at Union Cemetery in the Town of Fort Edward.

GANSEVOORT – Bryan J. Gallagher, 79, of Gordon Lane, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, March 1, 2024, following a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Born September 3, 1944, in Troy, he was the son of the late Norbert and Helen (Wood) Gallagher.

Bryan was a 1963 graduate of Troy High School. He worked for Firestone for several years then went on to a higher-level role for Al Tech Specialty Steel Corp in Watervliet. He worked there for many years until its closing in 1999. To Bryan, it wasn’t just a job, it was another family.

He was a proud member of the Watervliet Elks Lodge #1500 and the Emerald Athletic Club in Troy where he loved to play darts.

Bryan was a huge fan of the New York Giants. He loved to watch them play. He had a knack for the stock market and was great at day trading. Somehow, he always knew what and when to buy and sell. Bryan often enjoyed going to the Saratoga Race Course to watch the horse’s race.

He loved going on walks through his neighborhood and nature trails. No matter where Bryan went there was never a stranger he didn’t speak to. He could carry on a conversation with anyone. Bryan was a wonderful father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

In addition to his parents, Bryan is predeceased by five sisters and two brothers.

Survivors include his loving partner of 24 years, Elaine Porlier of Gansevoort; his daughters Terri Gallagher of Charlotte, NC, Jackie Gray of Troy, and Chrissy Gallagher of Troy; granddaughter, Sarah Gray of Troy; and a future great-grandson. Bryan is also survived by Elaine’s children, Kenneth (Suzanne) Bump, Jr., and Keith (Sharron) Bump of Delaware; grandchildren, Courtney, Brittnay, Tiffany, Anthony, and Angelina; and great-grandchildren, Gauge, Carlie, Brinley, and Teddy.

Calling hours will be held Sunday, March 10, 2024, from 1 pm to 4 pm at Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

A funeral mass will be held on Monday, March 11, 2024, at 11 am at Church of St. Mary’s-St. Paul’s, 11 Wall Street in Hudson Falls.

SOUTH GLENS FALLS – Jan Allen passed away on February 26, 2024, in Glens Falls, NY following a lengthy battle with Pancreatic Cancer and surrounded by family and loved ones.

Jan was born on September 16, 1960, in Glens Falls, NY, and was considered by all a beloved Aunt, Sister, Teacher, Artist, and Muse. She described herself as:” a Conceptual Artist working primarily with sculptural assemblage and interactive installations. The work is concerned with the interface between the personal and the public and invites a conversation in which to explore that connection.”

Jan’s educational background is impressive and extensive.

She graduated from Hudson Falls Central School, Hudson Falls, NY Class of 1978 obtaining a Regents Diploma and Majoring in Business and Art. After high school Jan attended multiple colleges including Mohawk Community College, Utica, NY; class of 1981 obtaining an AAS Degree in Advertising Design and Production; University of Maine, Farmington, ME; class of 1996 obtaining a BS Degree in Psychology and the Arts with a self-directed major in Art Therapy with a focus on Death, Dying and Children; and Vermont College of Fine Arts, Montpellier, VT, class of 2006 obtaining an MFA Degree in Design and Visual Arts

A world traveler, Jan’s studies took her to Guang An Men Hospital, Beijing, China in 1994 where she worked and studied Chinese Medicine and Acupressure. She continued her education by becoming a Reiki Master of Japanese Healing Technique for Life Energy and a Shiatsu Master of Japanese Message. She also experienced cultural   enlightenment as she explored local arts and traditions engaging with a hands-on approach and weaving herself into the fabric of the communities she served.  

With her extensive education, Jan worked in several influential fields including the Lower Adirondack Art Council in Glens Falls, NY, The Stanley Museum in Kingfield, ME, and The Adult Ed-MSAD #9 in Farmington, ME.

Advancing in her career, Jan touched many lives as an Art Teacher in Farmington, ME. After a move south, she continued teaching high school in Hilton Head, SC, and then in Greenville, SC where she retired in 2023. Jan continued with her personal artwork demonstrating to her students the importance of sharing their talents and taking an active role in the art community by inviting fellow artists to participate with her in her art installation shows.

Jan is preceded in death by her father; Raymond E Allen and her mother; Henrietta Francis, Tursla, Allen, Morris; a brother; Henry (Dinny) Allen and a sister; Deborah (Debbie) Allen Perkins. All from the surrounding Hudson Falls NY area.

She is survived by her life partner Daniel (Danny) Larrow in Liberty, SC, (2) Step-Sons; Samual Anderson (Vail, CO) and Woody Anderson (Oakland, CA), (2) Brothers; William D. (Billy) Allen and his wife Mary Reilly White Allen, residing in Richardson, TX and Donald L. Allen and his wife Anne Marie Bartlett Allen, residing in Gansevoort, NY, Sister, Judy Allen Mackay and her husband William (Dave) Mackay residing in Ridgefield, WA, Sister-in-law Patrica ( Patty) Tucker Zayacheck Allen residing in Glens Falls, NY, and Brother-in-law David Perkins residing in Kingsbury, NY.

Jan is also survived by many close nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Plans for an Art Exhibition and a Celebration of Life to be announced at a later date.

Donations may be made in Jan’s name to St Jude Children’s Hospital. She said: “Pay it forward”.

GLENS FALLS – Brian Dunlap, 75, of Glens Falls, passed away on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at his home.

Born on April 11, 1948, in Yonkers, he was the son of the late Henry and Dorothy (Bengur) Dunlap.

Brian graduated from high school in Yonkers and worked for Weisman Real Estate for many years.  He retired from New York State as a maintenance person.

On September 29, 2007, he married Theresa (Fitzpatrick) in Glens Falls

Brian loved to spend his time on a boat with a hook in the water fishing.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his stepfather, Frank Fiorentino and his grandson, Axel Rose Lloyd.

He is survived by his wife, Theresa Dunlap; his children, Christina and Brian; his stepchildren, David, Robert and Christopher Lloyd; several grandchildren; one great grandchild; his two brothers, Tommy and Timothy Dunlap; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be on Thursday, March 7, 2024, from 2 to 3:45 pm, at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Prayers will be offered for Brian at 3:45 pm on Thursday.

HUDSON FALLS – Nancy P. Donohue, 91, of Hudson Falls, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at her home, following a long illness, surrounded by her loving family.

Born February 23, 1933, in Appleton, Wisconsin, Nancy was the daughter of the late John and Viola (Henebry) Phillips, Sr.

In 1937, the family moved to Hudson Falls when Nancy was just four years of age. She continued to live out the rest of her life in Hudson Falls. She attended St. Mary’s grade school in Hudson Falls and later graduated in 1950 from St. Mary’s Academy in Glens Falls.

Following graduation, Nancy began working in the insurance industry. Her first job was with Normandin Insurance. She then went on to work for John F. Carey, Inc., Sheenan Agency and eventually retired from Rose & Kiernan, Inc. Nancy dedicated fifty years of service as an insurance agent.

Nancy was an active member and officer for the Glens Falls Area Insurance Women’s Association and the Hudson Falls Business and Professional Woman’s Foundation (BPW). She was also a member of the Red Hat Society group “Classy Lasses” and the Glens Falls Operetta Club where she enjoyed singing in the chorus. While being an usher for the Lake George Opera Festival, Nancy was able to see many operas.

She kept herself busy following retirement. She enjoyed monthly luncheons with fellow classmates from St. Mary’s Academy, the Classy Lasses, and those from the BPW group.

Nancy was famous for her delicious potato salad at family gatherings. No one could make it the way she did. In the mornings, you could always find her doing crossword puzzles. Nancy will always be known for her impeccable sense of style when it came to clothing. She was the greatest at accessorizing her jewelry to match her clothes.

For many years, Nancy hosted the best Christmas Eve parties that were enjoyed by all, especially her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. The greatest loves in Nancy’s life were no doubt her family.

In addition to her parents, Nancy is predeceased by her brother, John (Johnny) Phillips and her son-in-law, Scott Wells.

Left to cherish Nancy’s memory is her son, Michael (Lynn) Donohue of Delmar, her daughters, Kathleen (Michael) Durkee of Queensbury, and Debra Wells of Port Richie, FL; her grandchildren Haley and Sophie Donohue, Laura (David) Wright, Nicholas (Jade) Durkee, Nathan (Katie) Hicks, Timothy (Amber) Hicks, Elise Watz, Abigal Wells, and Brian Wells; her great grandchildren, Jesse, Jacob, Connor, Nolan, Alexander, Amelia, Poppy, and Evelyn; her brother Patrick (Mary) Phillips, her sister, Mary (Douglas) Greene, and her sister-in-law, Carol Yager; and several nieces and nephews. Nancy is also survived by her long-time best friend, Maryann Behan.

A funeral service will be held at 6:00 pm immediately following calling hours at the funeral home with Penny Brink officiating.

A committal service will take place in the spring at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Fort Edward at a date to be determined.

HUDSON FALLS – Charles “Chip” Doty, 64, of Dean Road, passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at his home.

Born June 5, 1959, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Charles and Jessie (Weaver) Doty.

Charles, also known as Chip, was a 1977 graduate of Hudson Falls High School. Following high school, he spent a short time in the United States Marine Corps. When Chip returned home, he started his own business, Floors by Chip, in the mid 1980’s and continued serving Warren, Washington, and Northern Saratoga Counties for thirty plus years.

Following retirement, Chip took great interest in closely following local government and land development in the area. Especially the area around his own home. He was also a local history buff.

Chip had a passion in life for refinishing hardwood floors. He took great pride in the work he did. He also had a passion for the outdoors. He loved fishing, hunting, and gardening. Chip was always there to lend a helping hand, a kind word, and a tool to assist anyone in need. He was a kind and humble man with a huge heart.  Chip was a loving father, grandfather, and brother. He impacted the lives of those he met through the years.

He is predeceased by his parents, Charles and Jessie (Weaver) Doty.

Chip is survived by his children, Paul McAllister (Sandi), Megan McAllister, and Kassondra Doty; his grandchildren, Jade Henry, Skyler McAllister, Niki McAllister, and Caylub Corzine; his sister, Hope Brynes (Robert); his stepchildren, Michael Morales, Elaina Doak, and Kiel Doak; his niece and nephews, Benjamin Brynes (Liz), Mary Proudfoot (Will), and Clinton Brynes. Chip is also survived by his ex-wife, Nancy Doak, and his best friend, his dog, Clover.
