Wilber I. Mead

MeadGANSEVOORT and HUDSON FALLS – Wilber I. Mead, 81, Gansevoort and Hudson Falls, passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on April 10, 1932, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Alphonso and Eva Mead.

Wilber served in the Korean War and received the Purple Heart for injuries suffered in the line of duty.

His wife of 51 wonderful years, Elizabeth Mead passed away on March 22, 2009.

For 40 years, he was employed at Native Textiles, formerly in Glens Falls.  Wilber enjoyed camping, playing cards and spending time with his family and his dog Topper.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by all of his brothers and sisters.

Wilber is survived by his sons, Stephen Mead and  his wife, Lucy of Fort Edward and Joseph Mead and his wife, Michele of Gansevoort; his grandchildren, Matthew Mead and his wife, Angie, Joshua Mead, Christopher Mead and Alexis Mead; his great grandchild, Rain Rummel; his sister in law, Joanne Williams of South Glens Falls; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on Sunday, June 2, 2013, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Graveside services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, at the Gerald B.H. Solomon, Saratoga National Cemetery in Stillwater with the Rev. Paul Mead, pastor of the Gospel Lighthouse Assemblies of God Church in Hudson Falls officiating.

Memorial donations may be sent to the American Heart Association, 440 New Karner Rd,  Albany, NY 12205.

    Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. Uncle Willy was a very kind and supportive man who deeply loved his wife, children & grandchildren. We will miss him.
