whittingtonHUDSON FALLS – Richard S. Whittington, 64, a lifelong resident of Hudson Falls, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 20, 2016 with his sisters by his side following a courageous battle with cancer.

Freddie, a nickname given to him by his friends, was born September 10, 1951 in Glens Falls Hospital to the late Rowland and Kathyrn (Williams) Whittington.

He was a graduate of Hudson Falls High School, Class of 1970. Following graduation, he went to work at the Lake George Bowl.  He also worked at Lakeshore Garage in Warrensburg, LeRoy Holding in Glens Falls, and retired due to his illness in 2015 from the Warren County DPW.

Freddie was one of the top area bowlers for many years. He was an avid motor sports fan, and spent several years as crew chief on his good friend Don VanGuilder’s #12 dirt modified racing throughout the Northeast and Canada.  He enjoyed watching television, especially NASCAR and the NHRA.  He also enjoyed going to casinos.

He is predeceased by his parents, and brother John “Hoss” Whittington, whom he missed dearly.

He is survived by his sisters Jane Ann Perkins and husband John, and Beth Whittington as well as his sister-in-law Susan (Gilbert) Whittington all of Hudson Falls.

He was “Uncle Dick” to Catherine Perkins of High Bridge NJ, Jason Whittington and wife Tina (Tuthill) of South Glens Falls, and Rebecca Whittington and partner Evan Edwards of Gansevoort. He was great uncle to Justin and Tyler Whittington, and Lauren Edwards.  He was extremely proud of them all!  He is also survived by several cousins.

Also surviving are his great friends, Don VanGuilder, Naylor Wells, and so many others who visited him during his illness and lifted his spirits.

Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. on Monday at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 89 Main St., Hudson Falls. With Freddie’s fondness for the casual life, his family requests you dress casual if attending his services.

Burial will take place at the convenience of the family at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the CR Wood Cancer Center, 100 Park St., Glens Falls, NY 12801.

The family would like to thank Dr. John Stoutenburg and the entire staff of the CR Wood Cancer Center, the Hudson Falls office of HCR, nurses and aides, the 4th Floor Interventional Radiology team, and Brenda Dickinson for their wonderful care and dedication to him during his illness.  Also, special thanks to his nephew Jason for being there for every appointment, and taking care of him every day without hesitation.
