Raymond W. “Rigger” Whittemore

WhittemoreQUEENSBURY – Raymond W. “Rigger” Whittemore, 86, of Queensbury, passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2013, at the Saratoga Hospital in Saratoga Springs.

Born on April 27, 1927, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Walter and Mary (Briggs) Whittemore.

Raymond attended Glens Falls High School.  Following school he served his country in the United States Navy during World War II.   While in the Navy, Raymond fought in the Pacific Theater and in the Battle of Okinowa.

In 1949, Raymond married Jean Bellinger, at St. Mary’s Rectory in Hudson Falls.

For over 61 years, he was a proud member of the Pipefitters and Plumbers, Local 773.  He was also a member of the Hudson Falls American Legion Post 574 and the VFW.  The most important thing in Raymond’s life was his family.

In addition to his parents, was predeceased by his brothers, Clint Whittemore, Dewey Whittemore, his sisters, Grace Kenny and Virginia Tougas.

Raymond is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jean Whittemore of Queensbury; his children, Larry Whittemore and his wife, Tawn, Linda Piper, Phyllis Jarvis and her husband, John, Dean Whittemore and Debbie Jelley and her husband, Frank; his grandchildren, Amy, Michael, Jessica, Joe, Gavin, Deanna, Jordon, Devin and Damian; his great grandchildren, Zoe and Tergan, Cooper and Jaxson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Burial for Raymond was at Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery with full military honors.
