Robert “Bob” Charles Sumner

STONY CREEK- Robert “Bob” Charles Sumner, 72, of Harrisburg Road, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 11, 2019.

Born on May 6, 1946 in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Charles and Irene (Daniels) Sumner.

For most of his life Bob drove an 18-wheeler.  He was employed by Marion Construction in Florida for several years before moving back North to be with his family.

Bob loved his motorcycles, especially riding with his family and his dog, Nibbit. He spent many hours hunting deer with his brother, Steve and his nephew, George.  Bob also enjoyed fishing in the Hudson River near his home in Warrensburg. When he wasn’t enjoying the outdoors, Bob loved watching old westerns on T.V.

In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his sister, Diane McQuain and his brother-in-law, Hank Manney.

Survivors include his children, Charles Sumner, Bob Sumner, Billy Sumner and Shelly; his siblings, Steven Sumner and his wife, Bertha, Ellen Lurvey, Charles Sumner and his companion, Mary Palma, Bonnie Manney, Dody Thetford and her husband, Steve, Mabel Colombe and Richard Sumner, several grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside services will be held in the spring at Pine View Cemetery.

The family suggests that donations in Bob’s name be made to the American Heart Association, 4 Atrium Drive #100, Albany, NY  12205.

Roland V. Sumner

SumnerFORT EDWARD- Roland V. Sumner 91, a longtime resident of Fort Edward, died Thursday, January 30, 2014, at home.

Born on May 7, 1922, in Fort Edward, he was the son of the late Roland and Eva (Barker) Sumner. Roland graduated from Fort Edward High School and married Eleanor (Peg) (Kendall) before entering the U.S. Army -30th Infantry Division in 1942 and was overseas more than 3 years. He was a recipient of several medals including the Bronze Star, the Good Conduct Medal, American Service Medal and the European, African, Middle Eastern Service Medal. After being discharged in 1945, he went to work for the International Paper Company for over 40 years.

Roland was a devoted husband, companion, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle. His greatest love was that of his family. His beautiful smile, humor and his optimism on life was overwhelming, all who knew him loved him. He enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, fishing, golfing, taking long car trips and playing cards.

He was predeceased by his loving wife, Eleanor of 51 years, his son Ernest and his devoted companion Mary of 14 years, his brother Douglas, his sister Francis Wright and brother-in-law Bradley Wright.

Survivors include his children: Bill (Kandee) Sumner, Sharon Rourke, Jackie (Ron) Trackey and daughter-in-law Sheliah Sumner Hughes. His 7 loving grandchildren: Bill Rourke Jr (Rachel), Ron (Angela) Trackey, Stacy (Brett) Meagher, Kristie (Chris) Sands, Sally Sumner (Bobby), Dana (Nicole) Sumner, Tanya ( Peter) Tucker, and 13 great grandchildren: Alyssa, Jaylin, and Brooke Sands, Gavin, Gillian, and Adam Trackey, Connor and Aiden Meagher, Devin Sumner, Josh Janke, Eric Sumner (Katherine), Kyle Sumner, Aurora Sumner, and Christina ( Trevor) Vermette. His extended family: Linda (David) Lent, Lynne (Don) Schrougham, Jeff (Kerry) Sumner, Craig (Lyn) Sumner, Sheri (Tom) Welch, Kevin (Fay) Sumner, Laurie Sumner (Glen) and Steven (Davina) Sumner. He is also survived by his devoted brothers: Pork (Jean) Sumner and Elwin (Carol) Sumner. Many loving and caring nieces and nephews: Matt Sumner (Mary), Mark (Linda) Sumner, Kathy Bowe (Harry), Jack (Maggie) Wright, Lee (Chris) Wright, Brenda Wozniak, Kelly (Stanley) Strainer, Doreen Sumner (Jay) and Peggy (Dave) Norton, and great nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to his brothers Pork and Elwin Sumner who was always by his side. His loving neighbor Janet Cooper and her family who was always watching over him. Also the family would like to thank all of his Doctors and many caregivers throughout the years including High Peak Hospice Family: Kelly McQuain, Carol Thomas, Tabitha Davis, Sue Brumghro-Johr, Beth Hughes and Stacy Chapman and Washington County Nurses and Aides.

A celebration of Roland’s life will be held Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 11:00am, in the Fort Edward Village Baptist Church with the Chaplain Steven Smith and Peggy Norton officiating.

In lieu of flowers, any donations can be made in Roland’s name to the Village Baptist Church, 131 Broadway, Fort Edward, NY 12828.
