Sonja A. Harris

KINGSBURY – Sonja A. Harris, 76, of Green Barn Rd., passed away peacefully on January 14, 2017, surrounded by her loving family, at her daughter’s home in Glenville.

Harris, SonjaBorn on August 14, 1940, in Warrensburg, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Florence (Piper) Crevison.

Sonja was a 1957 graduate of Hudson Falls School.  Following high school, she worked as a secretary for Beneficial Finance in Glens Falls, until the birth of her first child.  She then stayed home to raise her five children.  Sonja family was her centerpiece in life.  She was their manager, mentor, counselor, and her children’s connection to their past.

On March 29, 1959, she married Wayne Harris at the Kingsbury Baptist Church in Kingsbury.  He passed away in 1994, after 35 years of marriage.

She enjoyed working for the Kingsbury General Store and then Mallinckrodt in Argyle.  After its closing, Sonja attended Mildred Elley School and received her certificate in Paralegal Studies.  She worked for several years at McPhillips, Fitzgerald and Cullum, retiring in 2006.

Sonja was active in the Kingsbury Baptist Church and the Kingsbury Fire Department Auxiliary.  She also belonged to the Paralegal Association.  Sonja enjoyed growing vegetables in her garden, canning and pickling.   She was a wonderful painter who created beautiful pastels, acrylics and oil paintings.  Sonja enjoyed reading all books, including mysteries and historical novels.  She also loved spending time with her family at their camp on Schroon River in Chestertown.

Survivors include her five children, Chrys Nestle and her husband, Frank of Hartford, Scott Harris and his wife, Jill of New Jersey, Darlene Harris and her significant other, Dana Gilgore of Glenville, Keith Harris and his wife, Pamela of North Carolina and Laura Colombo and her husband, Joseph of South Glens Falls; her 12 grandchildren, Gwendolyn Nestle, Martin Nestle, Miriam Nestle, Zachary Harris, Cassie LeGault, Ryan LeGault, Nathan Harris, Cameron Harris, Alexa Pollat, Ryan Pollat, Madeline Colombo and Lydia Colombo; her longtime companion, Dick Belden of Hudson Falls; her two brothers, Jerold Crevison and his wife, Frannie and Jim Crevison and his longtime companion, Norine “Sam” Carter of Massachusetts; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on Tuesday, January 17, 2017, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

The Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at the funeral home, with the Reverend Jeffrey Palmer, officiating.

Burial will be in the spring at Moss Street Cemetery in the town of Kingsbury.
