Celia Ruth Solomon

QUEENSBURY – Celia Ruth Solomon, passed away September 16, 2013, following a short illness, at Fort Hudson Nursing Facility.

Born Celia Ruth Miller, on March 9, 1917, to Joseph and Ida (Goldstein) Miller in Portal, Georgia, she was the fifth of seven children.

Celia was blessed with a sharp mind and a wonderful sense of humor, always quick with a quip or joke. Her intellectual gifts were also displayed in her poetic abilities, often capturing the humor and irony of a situation. Her daily journals of more than 70 years leave a legacy of a life enjoyed and well lived. Family was always primary in her life. She loved family gatherings and took special pride in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Married, April 30, 1938, to David Solomon, of Hudson, NY, where they raised their family and enjoyed 60 wonderful years of marriage, until David’s passing in 1998. Celia reflected often on the comfort in their love and devotion. They would joke about their bond in marriage made stronger in the raising of four sons, stating to each other, “You’re not leaving me alone with these four boys!” Her devotion to their sons was evident in her spending 16 years as a Little League Mother and never missing a game. They took yearly vacations to Florida as a family and then a trip around the world, after David’s retirement.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is predeceased by her siblings, Robert Miller, Norman Miller, Rebecca Miller, Samuel Miller, Lillian Alpert and Martha Blitz.

Celia is survived by her children, Marc (Rita) Solomon, Samuel (Vicki) Solomon, Joel (Gail) Solomon, and Jerry (Beverly) Solomon; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
