Roger A. Sluus

HUDSON FALLS – Roger A. Sluus, 68, of River Street, formerly of Troy, passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at his home, after an 11-year battle with cancer.

Born October 20, 1947 in Troy, he was the son of the late Elmer and Mary (Evans) Sluus.

Roger proudly served in the United States Marine Corps., where he served during the Vietnam War and received a Purple Heart Medal for wounds suffered in combat.

On November 11, 2009, Roger married Tammie Spofford at the Kingsbury Town Hall, by Judge O’Keefe.

He was a tree climber and cut down trees for himself.  He loved running, which he could do for many hours, woodworking in his garage, and he also enjoyed working out.

Roger was a great guy who loved life and was there for anyone who needed him.  He will be greatly missed.

Besides his parents, Roger was predeceased by his son, Darryl Sluus.

Survivors include his wife Tammie Sluus of Hudson Falls; his children, Veronnica Pluckrose and her husband, Mark of Troy, Dianna Sluus of Watervliet, Ryan Sluus and his wife, Courtney Sluus of Green Island, Cara Sluus of Watervliet, Jonathan Spofford and his wife, Aisling of Hudson Falls;  his grandchildren Christian Sluus, Brandon Dobbs, Benjamin Pluckrose, Tommy Salvo, Alison O’Brien, Lorelai Austin, Fiona Austin and Keira Spofford; his brothers and sisters, Carol DiMaggio of Troy, Barbara LaClair and her husband, Dick of Wynantskill, Donna Garner of West Sand Lake, Karen Williams of Newport, TN, Robert Sluus of Palm Bay, FL, Denny Sluus and his wife, DeeDee of Watervliet and Jack Sluus; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

At Roger’s request there will be no public services.
