QUEENSBURY – Robert L. “Deano” Dean, Sr., 65, of Queensbury passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2017, at Glens Falls Hospital surrounded by his loved ones after a short battle with cancer.
Born on August 31, 1951, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Irving and Mary (Livingston) Dean.
Bob graduated from Queensbury High School in 1969. He went on to continue his education at the General Electric Plant Engineering Craftsman Apprenticeship Program.
He worked at General Electric for over a decade, followed by Encore, IP, and retired in 2014 from IBEW Local 236 in Albany as an electrician.
Bob was a member and past president of the West Glens Falls Volunteer Fire Co. in the late 70s to early 80s. He was a long time little league coach for all four of his kids. His hobbies included hunting and fishing at his beloved camp in Minerva, and more recently at his new camp in Ticonderoga. As he moved on in his retirement he could be found on the links of Kingswood or Pole Valley. One of his favorite things to do was to go on boat rides with his friends and family, especially his five granddaughters. Bob loved to watch sports, cheering for the NY Yankees and Miami Dolphins. Deano was very well known for his sense of humor. Bob recently found happiness caring for his small Yorkshire terrier, Yogi, which was surprising to all.
He was predeceased most recently by his youngest son and hunting buddy, Shawn M. Dean, who he missed dearly. He was proud of all his children but especially loved watching Shawn follow in his footsteps to complete a tool maker apprenticeship at General Electric.
He was also predeceased by his parents, Irving Dean, Sr. and Mary Dean; his two brothers, Irving Dean, Jr. and Earl Fordrung; and his sister, Ella Danahy.
Bob is survived by his children: Robert L. Dean, Jr. and his wife, Jennifer Dean of Queensbury, Angela Dean and her fiancé, Ronnie Diffee of South Glens Falls, and Stephanie Dean and her partner, David Carletta of Rochester; his granddaughters, Haylee Williams, Alivia Dean, Finley Dean, Cambria Dean, and Kennedy Dean; his longtime companion, Lucy Elder of Queensbury, who was a blessing to him, and her children Lisa Stewart and her husband, Taylor, Luke Elder and his companion, Rebecca, and TJ Elder; his siblings, Geraldine Mound, Floyd Dean and his wife, Doreen, Earl Dean and his wife, Linda, James Dean and his wife, Janet; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many close friends.
Friends are invited to call on Thursday from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc at 68 Main Street.
A Funeral Mass for Bob will take place on Friday at 11 am at Our Lady of Annunciation in Queensbury, with Reverend Joseph Busch, pastor, officiating.
