Sheridan E. “Butch” Race

RaceFORT EDWARD – Sheridan E. “Butch” Race, 65, of Fort Edward, went into the arms of the Lord, unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 17, 2014, at his home.

Born on December 26, 1948, in Amsterdam, he was the son of Olga (Mestek)  Race and the late Sheridan H. Race.

Butch graduated from Hudson Falls High School in 1967 and continued his education at SUNY at Albany, where he received his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees.

On August 21, 1971, he married Diana Rainbow in Hudson Falls.

Butch taught school for 35 years at the Glens Falls School System and he also served as the athletic director at the Glens Falls High School.

He was a member of the New Beginnings Community Church and served as a council member.   Butch also enjoyed bowling and being a baseball umpire.  He loved going to the movies and reading.  Butch was a talented saxophone player and was a member of the Vagabonds.

Besides his father, he was predeceased by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and his father in law and his mother in law.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Diana Race of Fort Edward; his mother, Olga Race; two sons, Rev. Sheridan Race, II and his wife, Marcy of Ticonderoga and Dana Race and his wife, Celine of Royal Palm beach, FL; seven grandchildren, Chelsie, Austin, Jordan, Jakob, Alexis “Lexi” , Caleb and Elizabeth “Lizzy”; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call today, Friday, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the New Beginnings Community Church, on Dix Avenue in Queensbury.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday, at the church, with the The Rev. Sheridan Race, II (Butch’s son)and Rev. Randy Gross, pastor, c0-officiating.

Burial will follow at Moss Street Cemetery in the town of Kingsbury.

Butch’s family suggests that memorial donations be made to the New Beginnings Community Church, 487 Dix Ave., Queensbury, NY 12804.
