Richard Phillip Quirk

QuirkHARTFORD – Richard Phillip Quirk, 67, passed away to the arms of Jesus on March 24, 2014, at Glens Falls Hospital. His sense of humor and love will be missed.

 Born January 25, 1947 in North Adams, MA, he was the son of the late Thomas and Eileen (Whipple) Quirk.

 Richard served in the U.S. Army from 1964 – 1965.  He was a Mason and loved his church.  Richard had a wonderful sense of humor.  He was a foster parent for over 20 years, with over 160 children passing through his home.  He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and camping.  He took pride in his children and always wanted to make a difference in their lives.

 In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his father in law, Leo Van Ness and his brothers in law, Patrick Dugan and Kenneth Van Ness.

 Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Margaret Van Ness Quirk; his daughters, Barbara (David) Morgan Gifford, of South Glens Falls, Kellie E.  Quirk of Hartford and Todd Palmer of Queensbury; his grandchildren, Meghan Morgan, David Swezey, Nicholas Morgan, Richard Morgan, Maggie Quirk, Emmaleigh Palmer, and Jackson Gifford;  he was also fortunate enough to have great grand children, Gavin and Aiden Swezey; his brother James “Jim” (Barbara) Quirk; his nephew, Thomas G. Quirk of North Adams; his uncle, William Quirk of North Adams, are among the many family members in North Adams and Clarksburg area; his beloved mother in law, Margaret Van Ness; many wonderful brother and sisters in law, Ed (Stella)Van Ness, Linda Dugan, Janet (Ken) LaFay, Virginia (Fred) Whitting, Arthur (Diane) Van Ness, Sharon (Gary) Jenkins, Leo Van Ness, James (Judy)Van Ness, Gail (Perry) Wittmer, Lisa Van Ness, Laurie (Mark) Havens,  Steven (Lisa) Van Ness, Tom Van Ness, Tim Van Ness; and several nieces and nephews, who are all the foundation of support for his family; and a special uncle, Richard Winters and his dear friend Glenn McConnell from GA.

 Family and friends may call, Friday, March 28, from 12 to 3 p.m., at the Hartford Yoked Parish in Hartford.

 Memorial service will follow the calling hours, at 3p.m., with the Rev. Patti Girard, pastor, officiating.

 Richard’s family invites everyone a reception following the service, in the Fellowship Hall at the Church.

 Burial will take place at Morningside Cemetery in Hartford, in the spring.
