Phyllis Mae (Rose) Tucker

GLENS FALLS – Phyllis Mae (Rose) Tucker, 87, of Glens Falls, died at the Indian River Nursing home in Granville after a long struggle with COPD and congestive heart disease on Tuesday, February 21, 2017.
Born on October 28, 1929, in the Town of Carlisle in Schoharie County New York, Phyllis was the youngest child of the late Grandeson and Alice Vrooman. She grew up on the family farm with eight brothers and sisters.
Phyllis was wed to William John Tucker Jr. who died in 1986. In addition to her parents and husband, Phyllis was predeceased by all of her siblings.
Phyllis stood about 5’6” with a strong medium build. She had sparkling brown eyes and brown hair that aged to a grey and white mix. She wore glasses to read and drive. Phyllis paid close attention to the details of her appearance and exhibited poise and elegance in her dress and grooming. She carried a cache of lipstick and a mirrored powder compact in her purse while out and about. Her nails were always finely trimmed and kept short as she used her hands for typing, housework and gardening. In her working years she walked from her home to work each day.
Phyllis enjoyed dressing according to the four distinct seasons of the Glens Falls area. She maintained distinct wardrobes for each of the seasons. She enjoyed wearing all colors but preferred muted pastels and blends over bright splashy primary displays. Phyllis spoke clearly with kindness in her voice. In conversation, she often addressed people as honey, dear or sweetie.
Phyllis was independent and self reliant. She paid her own way in life and valued her stubbornness. She worked her entire career as office manager and bookkeeper for the Borden Corporation’s offices in Glens Falls. She had a head for numbers and kept current with news and politics. While she considered herself to be a republican, but felt Franklin D. Roosevelt was the best president in her lifetime.
She enjoyed classical and pop music. She patronized the Lake George Opera company and visited Tanglewood in Massachusetts to listen to the Boston Pops.
She loved her pet cats and enjoyed gardening in her yard. While she was able, she created and maintained a lush beautiful garden in her yard that bountifully bloomed flowers from early spring to fall.
In her later years, Phyllis didn’t go out much. Instead she stayed at home where she kept her house during the day and read or watched television in the evenings. She enjoyed watching the news and was fond of several TV dramas and reality shows.
Phyllis will be laid to rest at Union Cemetery in Hudson Falls, NY.
