Margaret Goldy

Goldy, MargaretHUDSON FALLS – Margaret Goldy, 97, formerly of Linden Drive, passed away peacefully at Glens Falls Hospital on Saturday, February 11, 2017.

Born on April 13, 1919 in Portland, Oregon, she was the daughter of the late Professor Henry and Dr. Vera (Haskell) Brandon.

Margaret graduated from Corvallis High School, and continued her education at Oregon State University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree with high honors.  She received her Master’s Degree in nutrition from the University of Iowa Medical School, in Iowa City, Iowa.

She met her future husband, Benjamin Goldy, while attending Oregon State.   Benjamin and Margaret were married in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on December 25, 1941.   They were married for 61 years before he passed away in 2002.

Margaret went on to teach home economics at the Granville Central School for 12 years before her retirement.

She lived for many years in Hudson Falls, and spent her winters in Bradenton, Florida

Margaret was a beautiful painter, and especially enjoyed painting landscapes in watercolor.  She loved camping with her family, and traveling across the United States, Canada, Europe, New Zealand, and Australia.

She spent many hours reading and sewing and in her younger years she enjoyed to biking and boating.

Besides her parents, Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Benjamin Goldy; her son, Robert Goldy; her granddaughter, Cindy Bocchi; and her sisters, Ruth Stoebig and Dorothy Retzlaff.

Margaret is survived by her two children; Sharon Bocchi, and her husband, William, of Rome; and Richard Goldy, and his wife, Diane, of Moreau; her grandchildren; Maria Brooks, and her husband, Tyson; Michael Bocchi, Timothy Bocchi, William Bocchi III, and his fiancée, Jenna Mitchell, Joshua Goldy, and his wife, Jennifer, Stephanie Beldon, and her husband, Christopher, Courtney Goldy, and Elise Goldy; her great grandchildren; Matthew Brooks, Travis and Dallas Kozak, Gracie Jane Bocchi, Max and Quinn Belden; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

There are no calling hours.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 18, 2017, at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc.  68 Main Street in Hudson Falls, with the Rev. Derek Hansen, pastor, of the Hudson Falls United Methodist Church, officiating.
