Joseph W. Gatchell

gatchellHUDSON FALLS – Joseph W. Gatchell, Sr.,  94, a longtime Hudson Falls resident went to be with his family in heaven, on Friday, June 23, 2017.0, 2012, at the Fort Hudson Health Care Facility in Fort Edward.

Born on December 5, 1922, in Kingston, Ontario, he was the son of the lateJoseph and Mildred (Francis) Gatchell and his step father Burnis Ingrham

On December 18, 1942, he married Nancy Flores at St. Joseph’s Church in Fort Edward.  She passed away July 20, 2012.

Joseph retired after many years of service with Scott Paper, now known as Irving Tissue.  He also served as Union President at Scott for ten years.

He served in the United States Arm during World War II and was very proud of his service to his country.  Joseph was a member of American Legion Post 1133 in Fort Edward.  He enjoyed fishing, camping and bowling.  Most of all, he loved being there for his family.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his infant daughter, Lisa, his two sons, Joseph Gatchell, Jr. and James Gatchell, Sr.,  a sister, Rosie Duell and a brother George Inghram and an infant sister, Londie Gatchell.

Heis survived by  three daughters, Pat Holmquist and her husband, Peter of South Glens Falls, Cathy Riendeau and her husband, Claude, Sr. of Hudson Falls and Jean Brilyea and her husband, Abbie of Hudson Falls; seven grandchildren, Tammy Daley, Joseph Gatchell III, Joel Wade, Jr., Bonnie LaPointe, CJ Riendeau,  Abby Celeste and James Gatchell, Jr.; 10 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; one sister, Alice Hermance of North Carolina. and several nieces, nephews and cousins

Friends may call from 11 to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, at the funeral home, with Rev. Thomas Babiuch, pastor of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church, officiating.

The Rite of Committal, with full military honors provided by American Legion Post 574 of Hudson Falls  will follow at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

His family requests memorial donations be sent to the Fort Hudson Patient Activities Fund, 319 Broadway, Fort Edward, NY 12828 or the charity of one’s choice.

His family would like to thank the staff at the Fort Hudson Health Care Facility for the loving care given to Joseph and his family.
