Frederick V. Hicks

Hicks, FrederickGANSEVOORT – Frederick V. “Bud” Hicks, of Gansevoort, passed away on Friday morning, January 27, 2017 at home, with his wife by his side.

Born on February 9, 1935 on the family farm at Hicks Orchard, in the town of Granville, he was the only son of the late Charles and Mae (Taylor) Hicks.

Fred attended Granville School, leaving after his Junior year, to join the Army.  He earned his GED and became a parachutist in the 82nd Airborne.  Fred served in the Army becoming a Master Parachutist, then enlisted in the Air Force.  He proudly served as an Airman, where he and his wife, Bev, moved from South Carolina, to Newburg, to Maine, then Texas, then Tennessee, then Plattsburg, then Florida, then Virginia and finally to Gansevoort.  Fred served tirelessly during Vietnam, flying airman and supplies back and forth to Vietnam.   Sadly, he also flew home casualties back home to the States.  Culminating his service, he flew aboard Air Force Two under President Nixon, in the Military Airlift Command, as the flight engineer.   Fred loved to fly and missed it greatly after his retirement from the Air Force.

After his military retirement, he worked at Sears and enjoyed repairing small engines.

Fred was a favorite uncle known affectionally as “Uncle Bud”.   He was always so full of life.  His family and friends will remember him as a Jokester.  Fred was so much fun to be around and always the life of the party.    Although he was so very proud and loved serving his country, the center of Fred’s life was his family.  He took wonderful care of his those he loved, and was always so generous.  Fred “Bud” will be remembered for his fun loving spirit and sense of humor.

In addition to his parents, Fred was predeceased by his sisters, Gretchen Braymer, Barbara Liebig and Joan Brownell.

He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 62 years, Beverly (Corlew) Hicks of Gansevoort; his sister, Florence Tomlinson and her husband, Paul of Salem; his daughter, Connie Wilson and her husband, Wade of Buckeye, Arizona; his son, Kenneth Hicks and his wife, Tammy of South Glens Falls; his grandchildren, Jodi Hoenig and her husband, Joe, Richard Cunningham and his fiancée, Machie Lella, Kevin Hicks and his fiancée, Michaelee Scarincio, Jaime Hicks, Miles Mandwelle and Jordan Mandwelle; his great grandchildren, Taylor Mason, Kate Mason and Brody Hicks; one great great grandchild, Bradley Taylor; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Funeral Services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at the South Glens Falls United Methodist Church, 15 Maplewood Parkway in South Glens Falls, with Rev, William Puckey, pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow at 12:30 P.M., at Gerald B.H. Solomon-Saratoga National Cemetery in the town of Stillwater.
