Donald F. Flint

dflintHUDSON FALLS – Donald F. Flint passed away Sunday December 22, 2013 after a long illness. 

He was the son of the late Grover C. and Ida G. (MacDonough) Flint. 

Donald was born in Mineville NY on May 2, 1927. 

Donald had quite the diversified career and experience. An alumnus of Mineville High School, he enlisted in the US Navy in 1944, during WW II serving on the USS Myles C. Fox DD-829 in the Pacific Theatre, in Tokyo Bay, providing cover for occupation landing on Japan/atomic bombing. 

Returning to Mineville NY, he became a charter member #12 of the VFW Post 5802, remaining as a lifetime member in 1996. 

He was a carpenter apprentice through the Glens Falls local. Donald was employed at Republic Steel Corp. until it’s closing in the 50’s as a tar loader. In 1950, he relocated to Schenectady NY where he was employed through General Electric Company as a welding apprentice. He was also an assistant foreman and volunteer at the Scotia Fire Company in Scotia NY. 

In 1960, upon purchasing the Phelps house in Crown Point NY he became assistant chief of the A.E. Phelps Engine Company, with various employment opportunities as a member of the International Union of Operating Engineer Local 106 Albany NY. Also, Don joined the F&AM

Rescue Lodge 772, Crown Point NY and member of the Masonic Brotherhood for 50+ years. 

In 1963, Don moved to Hudson Falls NY, having joined the UA Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 773 of Glens Falls NY, remaining a member for 50+ years. 

Don was very active in the Hudson Falls Little League as a coach. 

While residing in Hudson Falls, he was nicknamed the “Mayor of Pearl Street”. 

In 1998, Don and Florence retired to Ormond Beach FL, enjoying the beach, gardening, and many visitor attractions until an opportunity arose to live next to their daughter Donna in Katy Tx. in 2006. Grandpa loved spending time with his grandsons and attending their Little League games. 

Donald is predeceased by his sister, Pauline F. Trybendis, his niece Shirley T. Sears, his daughter, Cynthia A. Flint, and his son, William S. Flint. 

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Florence (Speyer) Flint, his daughter and namesakeDonna F. Flint Wheeler and her husband, Paul, and Don’s 4 grandson’s Thomas, Phillip,Benjamin, and Jacob, and his nephew, Michael J. Trybendis of Ticonderoga. 

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Carleton Funeral Home, inc., 68 Main St. in Hudson Falls. 

A Masonic service will be conducted at 3:45 P.M. on Sunday at the funeral home, conducted by Rescue Lodge 772, F &AM of Mineville. 

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Donald Shuler, officiating. 

Burial, with military honors provided by American Legion Post 574 of Hudson Falls, will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Ticonderoga. 

Donations may be made to the local SPCA animal shelter, P.O. Box 171, Hudson Falls, NY 12839, where in 1984 Don and Florence adopted their beloved dog, Snoopy.
