Edna Andersen

Andersen Military AndersenHUDSON FALLS – Edna Andersen, 89, of Burgoyne Ave, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 4, 2015 at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on December 4, 1926, in Detroit, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Knud C. and Jessie (Hanes) Andersen.

While working in a clothing factory in Glens Falls, Edna was notified that she was going to be laid off, so on her lunch break, she enlisted in the United States Air Force.  Following that day, Edna spent much of her life in the service of her country.  She traveled the world from 1952 to 1972, until her retirement as a Staff Sergeant at Plattsburgh Air Force Base.  Edna liked a little of everything, but no particular thing.  She always looked forward to visitors.

In addition to her parents, Edna was predeceased by her sisters, Isabel Vera Mills and Ella Violet Jones, her nephews, Jay Thomas VanVranken, Richard Thomas Jones and Charles Graves, her brothers in law, Richard Jones and Thomas VanVranken and step brother, Jim Gibson.

She is survived by her sister, Elsie VanVranken of Hudson Falls; many nieces and nephews; several great nieces and nephews; her step brothers, Roy, Bob and Tom Gibson; her half-brother, Eric Andersen; special family members, Tom VanVranken and his companion, Bonnie Greene, Christina Graves, Kristy Macey and her husband, Patrick, Windy Clark and her husband, Randy and their children, Coty and Curtis Clark, Jay Thomas VanVranken, II and his wife, Tabitha and their children, Jay Thomas III and family, Cara VanVranken and family and Landon, Misty VanVranken and  her children, Madison and Kolby Kieft.

Graveside services with full military honors will be conducted on Friday, at 1:30 p.m. February 12, 2016 at the Gerald B.H. Solomon-Saratoga National Cemetery in the town of Stillwater.
