GLENS FALLS & HUDSON FALLS – Salvatore “Sal” Sammy Murray, 67, passed away on September 3, 2016, due to medical complications while staying at Vermont Medical Center.
Born on November 26, 1947, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late William Murray and Jennie (Marino) Celeste.
Sal was a US Army veteran of Vietnam. He served tours in both Korea and Indonesia, where he was engineer equipment repairman. Sam had a number of jobs in his life, including a mechanic, a bartender and finally retired from the US Postal Service. Sam always had a smile on his face and a joke to tell. No matter what the situation, he could always make you laugh and had a great sense of humor. Sammy was a humble and generous man and was an avid volunteer for the American Legion. He was also a big sports fan his entire life, the NY Giants and NY Yankees held his heart. Sam was smarter that meets the eye and had a genuine affinity for history and facts.
Many thanks to the VA Stratton in Albany, where Sammy thoroughly enjoyed staying, to Beverly Hall, who cared for Sammy in his last few years of life, with a smile on her face. The University of Vermont medical center, where Sammy was given affectionate care his last days of life. Sammy was predeceased by the love of his life, Sandra Murray, his beloved mother, Jennie Celeste, his father, Bill Murray and brother in law, Mike Jones.
He is survived by his caregiver and sister, Deborah Jones, her fiancé and caregiver, Jeff Seeley; his daughters, Joelyn and Dru Ure, Florence Rice, Terry Birch, Pat Corrento, Alex and Andrea Baldwin; and his sons, Paul Corrento, Terry and Larry Austin Miller.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 23, 2016, at 11 am at St. Mary’s Church on Warren Street in Glens Falls.
A double burial will follow, with is recently passed mother, Jennie Celeste.
He was a stout and proud veteran and in lieu of flowers, he would want you to thank a vet for their service or donate to your local post.
